A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Just a quick poll in order to find who you guys believe to be better.
In the Red Corner.....
Kelly Pavlik
The blue collared hero from Youngstown, Ohio, his perfect career has seen him progress quickly through the ranks although he moved stealthily, receiving little early media attention.
Pavlik has collected several highly respectable scalps, with domineering wins over Zeretuche, Miranda and Taylor.
Knockout victories over these fighters alone portray the fighters penchant for violent victories, but they do not tell the full story. In these fights Pavlik showed a solid chin, poise, powers of recovery, stamina, heart and a bloody single-mindedness that reminds fans of the fighters of yore.
These fights were complimented with his 2nd gear demolition of Gary Lockett earlier this year a fight which in my mind compared only to Miguel Cotto's complete dominance of Alfonso Gomez.
Kelly is a young enthusiastic Champ that has displayed little weakness.
He may appear a little robotic in his pursuit of his prey, but one cannot argue with the results.
Kelly is a machine. His approach is relentless, even when frustrated against Taylor in their second fight he did not lose compusure.
His power is truely special. He ruined Zeretuche, he took what Miranda had and bettered it, he exchanged with the now ex-champ and floored him and he performed an execution of Lockett. Kelly, definitely the man at Middleweight also has the sizre to cater for 168 pounds of destructive power.
In the Blue Corner...
Mikkel Kessler
The great Dane, perhaps the heir to Hamlet's throne as Prince of Denmark, lives in Monaco and crept through the ranks even more silently than "The Ghost." As Mikkel reached the world stage he was a stranger to the boxing public, but it was evident that he was being manouevered for special things with an impressive resume of knockouts.
Manny Siaca was the first opponent of note to court the Viking Warrior and failed dismally.Respected Austrailin Anthony Mundine was adressed in a clean cut decision in Mundine's territory berfore Kessler appraoched the task of winning atitle.Kessler by this time may have been a favourite, but his absolute destrucation of Beyer was not anticipated, he simply ahnialated Beyer before taking the rugged challenge of Librado Andrade.
He dolled out a severe beating to the rock solid Andrdade winnning yet another points victory. His only loss was to follow, to the ball of ebergy that is Joe Calzaghe. His efforts in this fight saw him gain the respect of the world audience with Calzaghe giving him his respect. He certainly earned it giving Calzaghe a competitive, clean and enjoyable fight. He hasn't fought a notable fighter since, recuperating with fights against anonymous European competition, but he surely must be acknowleged as the top man now at 168, seeing as Calzaghe is now a Light Heavy.

Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Kessler is bigger, faster, stronger with much better footwork.
Mikkel Kessler would ruin Kelly Pavlik with fast flurries and wicked three, four punch in and out combos. Pavlik would not land much and take a beating a whooping.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Pavlik would knock him out
IMO Kessler's chin is untested, I also remember him getting hurt by a bodyshot when he fought Joe Calzaghe.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
It is a tough one, but nobody really knows what Kessler can bring anymore. He rose up and got beat by Joe, but now seems content to go back and fight guys who are not even championship caliber. He really needs to step it up but is being held back by Palle and that stupid WBA jr. belt.
On that note, I would lean towards Kelly. Kelly does not look fancy, but he seems to go after guys that will challenge him instead of playing it safe(except for Lockett of course). He knows how to get the job done and is a much more rounded fighter than many people will give him credit for. He also seems to have that hunger, like Williams, to challenge anyone, even if they are not in his own weight class. That shows incredible confidence and will transfer itself to the ring.

Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
This is one tough fight to call but I think that Kessler would just sneak it
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Not sure who i would say is overall better, but i belive pavlik is better at what he does so i picked him. If they actually fought i don't know who i'd choose.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Kessler is way better then Pavlik.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Kessler
Its a tough one but I think Kess may have the better boxing skills. Pav seems abit 1 dimensional in comparisson and Kess is bigger too .

Did Kelly Pavlik screw your woman or something. He do you get off saying Kessler is stronger. I think Pavlik is stronger than Kessler. Pavlik in my opinion hits harder than any one at 168 except perhaps Miranda. Pavlik is way better on defense and has a chin. His conditioning is better than Kesslers too. Pavlik has much greater cardio.

"Where do you get off calling Kessler stronger. I think Pavlik is stronger" -- Its called an opinion just like yours.
Kessler is a huge SMW and the same height as Pavlik.
Id pick a good strong SMW over a big strong MW.
And its only Pavlik idiots that neg rep me you guys are very tetchy.
I think i will stop commenting on the guy this is getting beyond farce.

so didt Pavlik after the taylor fight, fighting a bum like Gary Lockett and now he fighting a over the hill grandpa Bernard Hopkins :o

Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Pavlik would ko kessler. Pavlik dominated a great boxer in taylor in the 1st and 2nd fight and what was the great neutralizer? It's his natural ko power. Imo pavlik is one of the heaviest hitter in his division and the whole of boxing as well and with just a simple 1-2, or if he pinned kess to the corner with his constant pressure, a ko or a tko is very much, much possible.Kessler's chin is yet tested so if this fight happens we'll see how pavlik's hands will do damage against kessler's chin..

Mikkel Kessler looked so powerful in the ring with Joe Calzaghe, and his boxing skills are underrated. His uppercut is beautiful and he's got a powerful right hand that will hurt the majority of SMW's.

Kelly Pavlik has the advantage in power and has proven thus far to have a pretty good chin, but I can see him systematically being broken down here. Kessler looked great at times vs Joe when he was countering him, and Joe wasn't coming at him half as much as Kelly will be, so he should be countering all night long. Pavlik has a lot of things in his favor, but his defence isn't one of them.
Kessler TKO11

Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
The fan side of me backs Kess, hes my boy.
But the boxing side of me says Pavlik.
I voted Kess, I think he wins a decision.

I too see it going the distance.
Plenty of swelling and grazing along the way though.

I agree I forsee swollen eyes and lots of marks around the face either way.

Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Tough one to call but I have just edged towards Pavlik probably because he is undefeated. But when I think about it I can't help but remember his first fight with Taylor. I picked Taylor before the fight and early on I thought to myself that Pavlik was showing he didn't belong in there with Taylor and had Taylor had the gas to finish him we wouldn't even be talking about this now I don't think.
But he didn't and I think Pavlik learned more in them early rounds of that fight than he has in his whole career and it made him a far better boxer.
Kess is a good solid fighter though and I would probably expect him to maybe beat Calzaghe in a rematch should it happen but I just sway towards Pavlik here.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
I voted Kessler, I think it would be a great fight, sided with Kess because I think he's a bit more skillful and has never been down, that been said we haven't seen what Pavlik's power is like above middle and theres a good chance he could well get Kesslers attention with a big right

If you read on in my post, I mentioned Lockett. Also that over the hill Hopkins, I would slightly favor to beat Pavlik and Kessler.
Not bad for an over the hill guy huh? Both Kessler and Pavlik have a style that someone like Hopkins can exploit. If you can take away Kessler and Pavlik's meat, their jab, they will struggle. Calzaghe squeaked through because he has more dimension to his game.
I think Pavlik's youth might carry him through against Hopkins, but it all depends on how he will deal with the adversity.

Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Pavlik to me is so Devastator in this Div........;)
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Kessler is the superior boxer in almost every catergory.
I could see him winning a decision if he can take Pavliks shots through 12.
I believe he also has the power to stop pavlik.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Kessler has never faced a guy who hits like Pavlik . He has never faced a guy who would press him and never run out of gas.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
I voted 4 Pavlik, the fact I think he hits harder swung it,would love 2 see this fight.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Now this is what i call a 'Superfight' let's get it on!! I go the K man
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
I go for Kessler on this one, he's a little too slick and composed for PAvlik
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Kelly is a BIG middleweight and probably is a natural super middle, so I really don't see anyhting in Kessler that Pavlik has not seen against Jermaine Taylor.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
I think Pavlik wins by stoppage....I think a fight vs Hopkins will be a tougher test than Kessler and allow me to explain.
Bernard Hopkins #1 has never been stopped and he has fought very good fighters #2 is a cagey vet he has little tricks he uses that nobody as young as Kessler knows about, and #3 he's got legitimate power and every Calzaghe fan knows that...Joe might have been off balance but he got dropped by a so called "Old Grandpa".
Mikkel Kessler is a tough guy I think his chin is good but as good as he may be he's not tough the way Pavlik is....Kelly took shots from Edison Miranda better than anyone else has. Kelly has fought better competition more consistently.
I think it's a pick'em fight but with Kelly's experience vs good solid boxers AND huge power punchers I think he has the best chance of winning providing the fight happens.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
Sure would love to find out, should be a great fight. Pick Kessler at the moment, Pavlik is largely unknown at the weight, I think he'll still be powerful but not with the advantage he has against his fellow Middleweights.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
A dead heat.
I sure hope HBO are reading this!
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
I like Pavlik quite a bit,but Kessler would murder him,and if he didnt,he should retire immediatly
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
I think Pavlik is made for Kessler in a way.
Kessler seems to have extreme accuracy and great timing along with some very tidy footwork.
He's also a big lad for a Super Middleweight.

You must be Danish. You sound like Royal without the racisim.
Pavlik is taller. He has longer reach. Kessler has better muscle definition, but that doesn't always transfer to strength in the ring or punch power, i.e. Jermaine Taylor. Pavlik has better workrate. He's much more relaxed in the ring. He has unbelievable timing on his jab. Kessler has a faster jab, but Pavlik has more reach and better timing. He is one of the best finishers I've even seen when he has his man in trouble.
You can make a case that Kessler could beat Pavlik, but to say that he would ruin him and that Pavlik wouldn't land much is simply retarded.
Pavlik would break down Kessler slowly with the jab. Then he would start landing the right. Kessler would land his share, too, and push Pavlik hard. Kessler would probably be ahead on the cards after 6, but Pavlik would take over in the second half.
Kessler has much better tattoos. Very fine skin art.

To be fair, he's been on his arse a few times...and almost out against Taylor.
That being said, i'd go for Kessler, but wouldn't be surprised if Pavlik ko'd him.

Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
In all honesty i think Kesslers movement will win this fight.
He also has an edge on handspeed. Pavliks workrate will be an issue but i can also see Kesslers 4-5-6 punch salvos taking there toll on the flat footed KP.
The Kessler/Andrade fight was beautiful a real piece of art a schooling i could watch a 1,000x and not be bored.
-
Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
If this fight would happen we would hear at the end " AND STILL UNDEFEATED FROM YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO !!!"!!!

Kessler/Andrade was a great display. I'm guessing that the people who are strongly backing Kess think he will be able to do the same thing to Pavlik. Both guys are come forward, high workrate pressure fighters, and Kessler handled Andrade with ease.
Kelly Pavlik is no Andrade. Andrade probably has a better chin, but he doesn't not have Pavlik's jab. He's not nearly as skilled a fighter.
Either way this is an even money fight. I think Pavlik would win, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kessler take it. I hope we get to see it.

Andrade has the best chin maybe in boxig since the Bronx Bull Jake LaMatta. His chin and his brain stem must be poured concrete with rebar in it.

Re: A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik
I would not take this fight untill I was a natural super middle weight if I was Pavlik. He needs to add more muscle and along with that would be more power. Could you imagine how hard Pavlik will punch if he is Kesslers weight.
