Default A definitive answer.....Kessler vs. Pavlik

Just a quick poll in order to find who you guys believe to be better.

    In the Red Corner.....
    Kelly Pavlik
The blue collared hero from Youngstown, Ohio, his perfect career has seen him progress quickly through the ranks although he moved stealthily, receiving little early media attention.
Pavlik has collected several highly respectable scalps, with domineering wins over Zeretuche, Miranda and Taylor.
Knockout victories over these fighters alone portray the fighters penchant for violent victories, but they do not tell the full story. In these fights Pavlik showed a solid chin, poise, powers of recovery, stamina, heart and a bloody single-mindedness that reminds fans of the fighters of yore.
These fights were complimented with his 2nd gear demolition of Gary Lockett earlier this year a fight which in my mind compared only to Miguel Cotto's complete dominance of Alfonso Gomez.
Kelly is a young enthusiastic Champ that has displayed little weakness.
He may appear a little robotic in his pursuit of his prey, but one cannot argue with the results.
Kelly is a machine. His approach is relentless, even when frustrated against Taylor in their second fight he did not lose compusure.
His power is truely special. He ruined Zeretuche, he took what Miranda had and bettered it, he exchanged with the now ex-champ and floored him and he performed an execution of Lockett. Kelly, definitely the man at Middleweight also has the sizre to cater for 168 pounds of destructive power.

    In the Blue Corner...
    Mikkel Kessler
The great Dane, perhaps the heir to Hamlet's throne as Prince of Denmark, lives in Monaco and crept through the ranks even more silently than "The Ghost." As Mikkel reached the world stage he was a stranger to the boxing public, but it was evident that he was being manouevered for special things with an impressive resume of knockouts.
Manny Siaca was the first opponent of note to court the Viking Warrior and failed dismally.Respected Austrailin Anthony Mundine was adressed in a clean cut decision in Mundine's territory berfore Kessler appraoched the task of winning atitle.Kessler by this time may have been a favourite, but his absolute destrucation of Beyer was not anticipated, he simply ahnialated Beyer before taking the rugged challenge of Librado Andrade.
He dolled out a severe beating to the rock solid Andrdade winnning yet another points victory. His only loss was to follow, to the ball of ebergy that is Joe Calzaghe. His efforts in this fight saw him gain the respect of the world audience with Calzaghe giving him his respect. He certainly earned it giving Calzaghe a competitive, clean and enjoyable fight. He hasn't fought a notable fighter since, recuperating with fights against anonymous European competition, but he surely must be acknowleged as the top man now at 168, seeing as Calzaghe is now a Light Heavy.

Kessler is bigger, faster, stronger with much better footwork.

Mikkel Kessler would ruin Kelly Pavlik with fast flurries and wicked three, four punch in and out combos. Pavlik would not land much and take a beating a whooping.

    Pavlik would knock him out

IMO Kessler's chin is untested, I also remember him getting hurt by a bodyshot when he fought Joe Calzaghe.

It is a tough one, but nobody really knows what Kessler can bring anymore. He rose up and got beat by Joe, but now seems content to go back and fight guys who are not even championship caliber. He really needs to step it up but is being held back by Palle and that stupid WBA jr. belt.

On that note, I would lean towards Kelly. Kelly does not look fancy, but he seems to go after guys that will challenge him instead of playing it safe(except for Lockett of course). He knows how to get the job done and is a much more rounded fighter than many people will give him credit for. He also seems to have that hunger, like Williams, to challenge anyone, even if they are not in his own weight class. That shows incredible confidence and will transfer itself to the ring.

    Kessler

Its a tough one but I think Kess may have the better boxing skills. Pav seems abit 1 dimensional in comparisson and Kess is bigger too .

Did Kelly Pavlik screw your woman or something. He do you get off saying Kessler is stronger. I think Pavlik is stronger than Kessler. Pavlik in my opinion hits harder than any one at 168 except perhaps Miranda. Pavlik is way better on defense and has a chin. His conditioning is better than Kesslers too. Pavlik has much greater cardio.

"Where do you get off calling Kessler stronger. I think Pavlik is stronger" -- Its called an opinion just like yours.

Kessler is a huge SMW and the same height as Pavlik.

Id pick a good strong SMW over a big strong MW.

And its only Pavlik idiots that neg rep me you guys are very tetchy.

I think i will stop commenting on the guy this is getting beyond farce.

Pavlik would ko kessler. Pavlik dominated a great boxer in taylor in the 1st and 2nd fight and what was the great neutralizer? It's his natural ko power. Imo pavlik is one of the heaviest hitter in his division and the whole of boxing as well and with just a simple 1-2, or if he pinned kess to the corner with his constant pressure, a ko or a tko is very much, much possible.Kessler's chin is yet tested so if this fight happens we'll see how pavlik's hands will do damage against kessler's chin..

Mikkel Kessler looked so powerful in the ring with Joe Calzaghe, and his boxing skills are underrated. His uppercut is beautiful and he's got a powerful right hand that will hurt the majority of SMW's.

Kelly Pavlik has the advantage in power and has proven thus far to have a pretty good chin, but I can see him systematically being broken down here. Kessler looked great at times vs Joe when he was countering him, and Joe wasn't coming at him half as much as Kelly will be, so he should be countering all night long. Pavlik has a lot of things in his favor, but his defence isn't one of them.

    Kessler TKO11

The fan side of me backs Kess, hes my boy.
But the boxing side of me says Pavlik.

I voted Kess, I think he wins a decision.

I too see it going the distance.

Plenty of swelling and grazing along the way though.
