The excuses just keep coming...

I'm so tired of hearing Kelly Pavlik and his camp making excuses. Now his dad is saying that they gave Kelly antibiotics a couple of days before the fight and that his son had to ease up on training because of his apparently elbow injury. He's saying they should have postponed the fight but Kelly didn't want to.

I'm not sure if all of that is true but even if it is all true, it just points out the big problem with Kelly Pavlik's camp for this fight. THEY WEREN'T TAKING BERNARD HOPKINS SERIOUSLY!!! If they were fighting JoeCal or Abraham, they probably would have postponed the fight, but because Bernard's supposed to be "an old man", they thought they could wing it. Dumb idiots.

Bernard Hopkins is a freaking LEGEND. How dare they not take this man seriously? All this talk about knocking B-Hop out and "putting the old dog to sleep"? Get the fuck outta here. Now they're making excuses? They deserved everything they got and a fully focused and healthy Kelly Pavlik still couldn't have beat B-Hop on that night anyway. So these guys need to stop making all these excuses and now give Bernard Hopkins the respect that they should have been giving him in preparation for the fight.

Quite honestly, Jack Loew hasn't done anything. He's had ONE decent fighter. For this guy to be coming out before the fight and talk all this shit about B-Hop was dumb as hell. The fighter might think that a fight is supposed to be easy but it's the trainer's responsibility to keep the fighter in check, keep him grounded in the gym, and make sure that fighter trains as hard as possible regardless of the fighter. Jack Loew obviously didn't do that.

He probably can't quite put his finger on where it went wrong and why he couldn't connect with anything. Excuses were bound to come in some way, shape or form. Would just get more credit for admitting he was completely outclassed.

will we ever get a big name modern day fighter who can take a loss on the chin? kelly mighta been off for some reason or other but at the end of the day there was only him and bernard fighting, so as soon as that bell rings there should be no excuses, if you step into the ring thats it end of, the type of guy it seems Kelly is im pretty sure he would be embarresed by all these excuses coming from his father and lowethey didnt evenwin a round jeez man get back down to 160 and stop crying.

Kelly came up in the ranks the hard, and right way, he earned it. He put in the time, he put in all the hard work, and he took on whoever his promoter put in front of him. You don't become a champion, if you don't take other fighters seriously.

Do you really think that he would want to risk his undefeated record by not taking Hopkins seriously? Please. That's insulting to any fighter.

I have never seen a fighter lose, especially a top fighter, who will then concede that his opponent was a better fighter and would always be a better fighter, but that seems to be what some of the anti-pavlik fans want. It will never happen as a fighter has to find reasoning with their loss and build back up mentally from it, even if they are lying to themselves.

A fighter will always rebuild mentally by first thinking they were not themselves, then slowly integrate into those thoughts what they could have done to improve the situation in their quest to getting back to where they were.

Surprisingly, Tarver took the loss to Dawson well. Made me like him a leetle bit more. But he was his usual arrogant self in the next sentence.

What about Cotto? Cotto took his loss like a man and conceded that Margarito was the better man that night. Now Cotto wants to come back and get another shot. That's how you lose, that's what a man does. Cotto loss his first fight in a much more brutal fashion but he knows that he can come back. He doesn't make any excuses. He didn't say things like "I don't know why I didn't go for Margarito's body", he said things like "Margarito was doing things to where I couldn't land good shots on the body." He gave Margarito that credit. Pavlik is whining, saying it wasn't Hopkins blah blah blah. He sounds exactly like Tarver after he lost to Hopkins.

More power to Pavlik for not wanting to let Youngstown down but if he really thought he was in any danger of losing that fight due to his injury then they would have definitely cancelled that fight and if they still went along with it knowing he wasn't healthy enough then that proves that HIS CAMP wasn't taking Hopkins seriously. There's no way Pavlik or his camp would have risked his 0 if they thought his injuries were going to hinder his performance. So why bring up all this crap after the fight is over?

OK I will concede that one, but how often does that happen? It is very rare and you know it. Cotto is a warrior and he did have success in that fight. Pavlik was like a fish out of water in his and had to come up with something.

Hahahahahaha. The Boxingscene article that I read took quotes from the article. I didn't twist anything around. You're just looking to make me a Pavlik basher because I have valid points. Notice in most of my post, I'm talking about Pavlik's camp and not Pavlik himself.

You said that every guy that steps into the ring should be given respect for doing so. I never said anything about not respecting Kelly Pavlik, I simply have questions about his health and preparation for the fight and why all this stuff is being used as an excuse now.

Pavlik really hasn't given Hopkins that much credit either. He said stuff like "I just didn't feel right", "I don't know why I couldn't get off", and "I wasn't myself in there." I, I, I, I, I. That's all. There is no type of respect for Bernard to just say "you know what, he was the better man that night, but with better preparation, I can do better against him." Where is Pavlik's respect for B-Hop?

And finally, in that same article that you posted, Jack Loew is crying about going up past 160 to fight guys. Waaah, waaah, waaah, people keep making us go up, no more, they have to come down to fight us. But wasn't this guy the same guy that said Pavlik was gonna be effective all the way up to 175? He was also one of the guys calling JoeCal out for Pavlik at 168. Nobody said they had to go fight bigger guys but Pavlik's camp chose the bigger money fight instead of a mandatory at 160. So, who's fault is that?

i wonder if the hopkins 8 years ago could beat him so convincling

Thing is Pavlik has a jab and a right cross and looks like he walks through tar. Any elite with footwork School the guy.

I predicted it, i knew it he is a good puncher with heart and stamina he fails on the rest.

I wish Pavlik would shut the F U C K up and take his defeat like a man. He didn't take his medicine and that's why he got beat ? Yeah right. It's always funny that it's always the fight where they get beat is where something goes wrong, the other 30 odd other fights he had everything went perfect. Remember Muhammad Ali fought 15 rounds with a broken jaw against a peak Ken Norton and only just lost split decision to him.

I think some times white fighters believe there own hype too much, they get over-hyped same with Hatton they think they are untouchable and can't believe that anyone could beat them so comprehensively. Now he pathetically says because Hopkins got beat by Taylor twice, he ain't a better fighter than him coz he beat Taylor twice. I mean cmon, Taylor does not have Hopkins defensives skills, chin or ring craft, so Taylor was made for pavlik, Pavlik does not have Taylor’s athleticism, hand speed and footwork so it was always gonna be hard night for Hopkins. End of the day, it's not like Pavlik took beating or that he was destroyed, I liken it to Hamed Barrera fight, he just got beaten by a guy who would beat him every time they fought.

I know the real problem ...pavlik got his ass whoooped it's a flu type bug common in boxing, causes all kinds of hallucinations, he'll be fine tarver still has it too.

He got beat by an old guy that had way to much speed for him. Pavlik was slower than molasses. That's why he got beat. He was moving in slow motion compared to hopkins. Whatever punches pavlik did throw, hopkins could see them telegraphed from a mile away and then either move or counter with hard shots.
