Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
not the best PR to get more US fans but will prob help to sell the fight even more so what can you say, but i guess reading that, that this really is his last fight.
wonder if they know americans find the word "Yanks" disrespectful.

Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
Does anybody remeber the 2nd Bruno-Tyson fight the sun newspaper had a spank the yank picture to put in you window to show support for our Frank.

Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
Calzaghe didn't actually say "Yank" there. It's The Suns headline. ;)

Exactly, what I was about to say. The Sun is an entertaining paper but it's full of shit, it's never been any different.

Disrespectful? A yank is a gay pedophile; 'disrespectful' is an understatement (unless you play pro baseball in New York).

Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
You can say The Sun said Yank not Joe but he said Another Yank will fall at the end of episode 1 24/7. And when it comes to daft sayings i remember Bruno before fighting Tyson 2nd time he said i have a 50/50 chance against Mike and a 60/50 chance against most of the others LOL;D good old Frank.

Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"

Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
It doesn't matter how he beats Roy JOnes he would earn anymore respect from me for this fight. He has way too many advantages at this point in his career compared to Roy. I don't see why a guy this heavily favored (by boxing fans not going by betting because I don't know what it is at) is expected to do anything except dominate. IMO this is like PBF against Arturo Gatti. Except the talent is reversed.

Calzaghe is 2/7 "Odds On",Jones at a good price of 5/2 and a draw is 25/1!
What time does this fight start and who will be the ref??Anyone know? Thanks;)

What are you talking about? Gatti had all the talent against PBF? This is seriously unintelligible drivel. Calzaghe will dominate Jones and no matter how you deny it, Calzaghe will always be better than the fighters you hold so high in lofty ideals. Calzaghe didnt lose to Antonio Tarver after all. Now stop posting like a plank.

Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
Calzaghe certainly isn't better then a prime Hopkins, he barely "Beat" a 43 year old version of him.
He certianly isn't better then Floyd Mayweather, who p4p would destroy him, ALmost as fast as Jones, but harder to hit then Bernard HOpkins.
He certainly isn't better then PRIME Roy whom is faster, better at throwing combinations, harder to hit, and actually fought legitimate opponents for most of his career(including changing weightclasses, going up to heavyweight).
Can you read? I openly stated Cazlaghe will likely blast Jones out of there, this doesn't mean it indicates whatsoever happens in their prime. I would like to see Calzaghe actually try to outbox Roy when they fight on Saturday, maybe that is the only way I will be impressed, if he just swamps Roy with workrate then whatever. Even then Roy has lost most of his ability to counter which is the one thing except a workrate that Roy Jones in his prime would have used to dominate Calzaghe.
Also Roy handled Tarver easily in their first fight, but lets see Calzaghe go the heavyweight even agaisnt Ruiz, he would be worked over like a little boy by a Catholic priest. And when he came back down lets see how his body deals with it. Tarver said Roy was blowing shit out of his ass until he did it himself, and he looked like a ghost against Bernard.
If you actually payed attention I was comparing what PBF did to Gatti in accordance to what Calzaghe will do to JOnes, but in this case Jones is the much faster, more athletic individual. However he will still get pumelled, because at this point he isn't even in the same class as Joe.

Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
....loose and some back home won't either.
-
Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
Also MIles as a fighter I love Calzaghe, he is EXACTLY what I like in a fighter, a guy who is a good athlete who works as hard as possible to be the best fighter he can possibly be. The only two guys who didn't work as hard as I would have liked them to are Roy Jones Jr and Muhammad Ali, they both never seemed to dedicate themselves as much as they should have in some fights. All that aside Roy Jones and Muhammad Ali were still in as good if not better shape then anyone they fought.

I'll be honest here, I didn't know that about the term Yank.
The word may mean that to Americans but there's no way the British use it in that way. We call Americans Yanks like the Americans call us Limeys. Or the Aussies call us Pommies...

That's what I was trying to say, a yank to a British person is just somebody that is from America. It seems 'yank' means something entirely different in America!;D

no one uses that term in America besides referring to the New York Yankees.. the only time i hear, he's a "yankee" is in reference to a baseball player.. "the yanks lost last night".. besides that i'd probably consider it a derogatory term, sort of like if someone called me a WOP for being Italian.. but in all fairness, it's easy to call someone from england a brit, just one syllable, but if you had to say "american" everytime that would get annoying.. yank works for me..
-
Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
I don't know where he gets off saying British fighters are better than American fighters now...how would he know he's only been in America for 1 fight.

Yeah i hate when that happens! We brits always have to wait in the early hours on the morning, even when we have the likes of Haye fight over here we still bend over backwards by delaying the time for other people sake!Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
Thats another thing, can the Americans answer honest and regardless of whether or not they like him.
Is Joe Calzaghe a draw on American tv?
I know Roy wasnt, in fact I think the first fight I saw of his televised over hear was against Bryant Brannon and that was on the low key Euro sport, the big channels like ITV, BBC, Sky sports didnt want to know until much later.
I remember watching his fight with Mike McCallum, not sure if it was live or not though.
Can these Two, together now bring a big audience in?

Re: Calzaghe,"Yanks have'nt showed me any respect!"
It must be shown at about 2am over here then in the U.K.We brits always get the shitty end of the stick!I bet the Haye fight with Barrett starts at about 1am too,and if soo i will be fucking pissed off. When Haye fought Big Enzo Mac their moved the time in the early hours of the morning for the rest of the world to enjoy. What i say to that is,"If their want to watch two great fighters fight it out then their should be willing to stay up for it as we dumb arse brits do."

It's frustrating I know. Although I reckon Haye will be on our time...
Just checked the HBO PPV site and the show doesn't start until 9pm ET, damn that is 2am UK time.
Can any US members advise as to how soon after the start of the show on HBO we can expect the fight to start? I'm guessing at least an hour build up to the fight whch makes it 3am for us....
