James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
Big punchers Joel Julio, James Kirkland to rumble March 7 - ESPN
I like the match up between Kirkland and Julio. Both are heavy hitters, and I think it will be a good test for Kirkland. I have to think on who I'll pick for this one. I like Kirkland, but Julio has some good experience, and I think will really show the holes in Kirklands defense.
I haven't seen enough of Victor Ortiz to make a good judgement on this one, but again, I think this will be a good test for him.
;D

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
This one is indeed a toss-up. I saw Julio when he fought here in Detroit. He has an intensity about him. You just feel like you can't get away from him. Maybe I'm just thinking that because I was kinda sorta backing the underdog local guy. I like Kirkland and I bet he'll be on his A-game in training camp. I really wish they would get someone in camp who could teach him about pacing and defense, but I also get the feeling pacing would be in direct contradiction with how he's being trained. I hope I'm wrong, but I think Kirkland might be one of those guys who needs to lose to improve.

Wow, that's a nice boxing card!

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
Nice match up with Julio/Kirkland.Kirkland needs to do less weight lifting and get some head movement,Julio may not have turned out to be the sensation some thought he would be,but he is much deeper than Kirkland.Should be a collision:fight:.
Ortiz is going to do very bad things to a shot Harris, early and brutally.GBP certainly knows how to maneuver an up & comer.

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
Kirkland/Julio is going to be a war. It will be interesting to see if Kirkland chooses to go with his jab which has been Julio's undoing in both losses, I think if Kirkland elects to trade and go for excitement he's gonna get sparked.
Ortiz/Harris looks to be a passing of the torch fight, gonna be tough for Harris to put up a good showing. It begs the question though if Ortiz does win that would make Ortiz #1 and Williams #2 at 154 with a vacant ring title in the balance...................................

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
nice couple of fights there should be good viewing
Never seen any of kirklands opponents up until now but know joel julio quite well and this should definitely be tough going for kirkland.
Without getting shouted down in flames i just dont rate Ortiz as highly as he gets touted on here though vivian harris has been around the block and back and is surely just fighting for the money which assures victor a win.

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
This could be the fight that James Kirkland gets exposed, i think he's very beatable he was sucking wind after only 5 rounds against Brian Vera. And he's very hittable, sure he has power but power only gets you so far. I don't see anything special in him, he is very exciting and good for the sport. But i sense a bit of an upset here if it could be considered an upset, that Joel Julio won.

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
I think Kirkland is there for the taking, but I'm not sure Julio will do it.
Harris almost got knocked out by a guy with like two wins last time out. Should be brutal.

Wow i just checked up he was down twice in the first round by a guy, with 7-4 record maybe it isn't such a good step up for Victor Ortiz after all.

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
Yeah, the videos out there somewhere, maybe youtube, I don't know, he was legitimately hurt and apparently the stoppage was controversial too.
Vernon Forrest, I don't like him, but he'd knock Kirkland out IMO.

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
I'd take Kirkland over Julio but its a good fight!!!
I think Ortiz blows the shot Harris away!!!

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
Julio by early knock out in an exciting fight. Ortiz destroys the shot Harris in what is disgraceful mismatch. Ortiz should be fighting a fellow youngster like Marcos Maidana or Devon Alexander. Beating up Carlos Maussa scraps don't mean shiit.

Not possible, carnal. Ortiz fights at 140. Not 154.

Especially when you've beat Carlos Maussa already. I'm shocked HBO is going to be cool with showing a Vivian Harris fight. A name that's all it is at this point, Ortiz should handle him easily.

You do realize Dzinzurik outclassed Julio in Julio's last fight? I can't fight the footage .
Kirkland wins by late stoppage in a good fight and Ortiz destroys Harris.

If Kirkland can stop Julio that will be very impressive, I've never seen Joel even close to being hurt, his two losses we pretty one-sided and he was clearly outboxed, but he's had some bombs landed on him and I've never seen him fazed even in the slightest.

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
AHA! ANYONE ask fellow poster hitmanhatton yeah!
We were talking about up coming fights and he tells me word is their gonna step up vic ortiz and hes gonna get a big name next fight.. and he asks me..
who you recon
And i replied.. quite seriously.. but somewhat jokingly cause in a funny was its something that they would do..
Bet they give him Viv Harris!
And what do you know.. LOLL
Ortiz'll wreck ol viv.. bless him hes a good guy and once a good fighter but theres no place for him among the current jr welterweight crop and i doubt he can hang with alot of the young prospects right now either..

his last fight was a mistake a' to make a'.. im pretty sure i read there was several less dangerous fights for him to take for more money and for titles..
but instead he took a so so purse for a fight in germany? was it?
Its pretty easy to keep up with joel julio's career cause dan rafael is really quite the fan of him and dispite julio's flaws rafael always seems to be wishing him the best and really wants him to make it big in the boxing game.. lol which is fair enough.
But yeah i dont think julio is down with southpaws.. i think he caught a very lopsided loss last time out and there are some managerial problems that need sorting with him.. cause the right decisions arent bieng made and nobody was going to go ranting that julio was ducking this guy from germany and nobody was getting called out.. it was just a bad choice..

I didn't fight the footage either. But I did see it. Other than both fighting at 154 and both being south paws Kirkland and Dzinzurik have nothing in common. There fighting styles are nothing a like. So to say Julio can't beat Kirkland cuz he lost to Dzinzurik is one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
Been thinking about these fights since the day it was posted here's what I have...
I only see this ending as a loss for Kirkland.
I think if he goes wild, he'll get caught by the more composed Julio.
I also think Julios got the skills to outbox Kirkland.
As for "Vicious" I think he sparks out Harris inside of 4 rounds.
I'll be honest I don't like the fact that he's sparking out his opponents so quickly. I'd like to see him get in there with someone durable like Josesito Lopez or Randall Bailey...

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
I don't know if it means much but Julio was hurt once in the Carlos Quintana fight by a body shot I forget what round. That's obscure and might not mean much but Kirkland is a competent body puncher you never know.
I would like to see Julio in against Tsurkan I don't think he can match explosiveness with Kirkland he has been awfully cautious to punch since the Quintana fight. He's not getting chances to set up punches. To bad he didn't stay working with Pernell Whitaker and Mark Breland they had him improved a lot in the time they had him.

That wasn't what I said, so it can't be the dumbest thing you have ever read - ;D.
I only meant - keep Julio's skills in perspective, he has been outboxed before.

Why does that matter? Kirkland can't box

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
Well it looks like Ortiz has a new opponent.
This was just on Dan Rafael's chat.
Grey (Cape Cod, MA): I saw on the schedule that Victor Ortiz is now fighting Mike Arnaoutis. Did Vivian Harris price himself out?
Dan Rafael: (12:44 PM ET ) He and his adviser gave Golden Boy more trouble than he was worth and they basically went on the theory that life is too short and I don't blame them. I think Arnaoutis is a better fight actually.
-
Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
Much better opponent. I smiled at the fact that Vivian's still difficult to work with, don't you have to be relevant to be difficult?
-
Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
Arnoutis is a great opponent, not much power, but he has pinpoint accuracy, great footwork and a decent jab. If Ortiz can get through Arnoutis it will be a much bigger statement to me than beating old man Harris.

Re: James Kirkland vs Joel Julio & Victor Ortiz vs Vivian Harris on March 7th
This will def. let us know where Ortiz stands...
I really like this matchup if you go back to my 1st post you'll read that I was hoping they'd put a good boxer infront of him someone who will last.
I think they've done just that and going up against Mike whos only 2 loses have been to Torres & Holt tells you the guy can hang with them.

Definate step up,much better than a badly faded Vivian Harris.Arnaoutis will give him some different looks but I just dont think he'll have the fire power to keep Ortiz off down the stretch. Will be good to see what adjustments Ortiz can make ,I dont see Arnaoutis getting blasted out early.
