It will be a very good fight for Kessler;D
I agree good fight for Kessler if he shines in this fight could open alot of doors, but on the other hand Johnson is not seen as a marquee fighter and possibly Kessler could look a million dollers and be then be avoided by the other top boys in and around 170.
It's a fight that makes sense between two guys struggling to find suitable opponents. Would be a war as well. At 170 I'd favour Kess.
Yes.. good fight for Kessler. Johnson is certainly a big enough name for the hardcores.
Even though Kessler will win a clear-ish points decision expect a hundred "Johnson was robbed" threads.
You must have thought Dawson clearly beat Johnson?
I thought Johnson was going to fight Diaconu. Anyway, good fight for Kessler and the kind of fight he needs to break into the US. If he looks good beating Johnson, when Dawson looked poorly doing so, Kessler will deserve credit.
That website is weird. Does it translate automatically into English or something?
I hope this fight comes off. It SHOULD silence some of Kessler's critics, but more than likely people will talk about Johnson being old.
Awesome fight as far as I am concerned. We will see what Kessler has and I believe alot. Then again I do think Johnson beat Dawson and has been the most overlooked lightheavyweight of recent years. He has an iron jaw and he is a hard worker something that no one wants to face. I give alot of credit to Kessler for taking this fight.
Should be a good match probably closely contested. Definately a good measuring stick to see where Dawson's skills are in comparison to Kessler's.
Look forward to this one a lot. Johnson is definately one guy who has never ducked anyone.
This one would be a 12 round battle, and I'm certain it would be going to points, because they've both got solid chins and the stamina to go at it for 12. I think it'd be a fantastic fight, Kessler as the younger man maybe edging it. If Johnson wins, it would line him up for a last hurrah at a world title shot.
Hope it comes off and I'd look forward to seeing it happen, though according to boxrec Johnson needs to get by Daniel Judah first.
I think Johnson will win this fight. Calzaghe gave him angles he couldn't measure, and I expect Johnson to do the same thing. This one is going the distance.
Good luck in looking for an "old" Johnson showing up. He did his best work in the later rounds against Dawson. He may have lost that fight, but not by that wide a margin.
What a warrior he is!
I think it's the fact that he is really good at everything but he doesn't have that one thing he is phenomenal at like the fundamentals of Kessler, the speed of Calzaghe and Dawson, the mastery of how to fight dirty like Hopkins, the strength of Mendoza. Furthermore I think if he was quicker to adapt to those things he would have clear victories. I will admit he is one of my favorite fighters, strictly for the fact that he fights anyone and everyone and once the bell rings he is there to fight not just pick up a paycheck, can't really ask for anything else from a fighter IMO.
I hope Kessler comes back to 168 win, lose or draw. He has business at 168, leave 175 until you TRY and prove your the best at 168.
....great fight. Hey first time you get robbed i say wow, second time i say hhmmm, third fourth and fifth then you need to change something you're doing in the ring, if johnson doesn't then he looses another decision as usual.
I agree. I've said it before but the guy is one paced and doesn't seem to count the rounds in his favour. While he may win some rounds convincingly he'll let the other guy do just enough in the next round to even it up. Doesn't seem to be an urguncy in his work when things might be going the other way.
Love it if this fight comes off.
Interesting matchup. Good for both men. I think Kessler might win a close decision, but Glen is always game and I wouldnt be surprised if he roughed his way to a decision either. I assume Glen would be the underdog as usual but a very, very live dog. Hope they both make a good account of themselves as I suspect they will.
Probably the best fight thats immediatly available for both of them to get back on the radar
Very good match-up. I was starting to get worried that Mikkel was going to just beat-up on unknowns in Europe.
This fight is a chance for Kessler to make a statement and I think he will.
About time Mikkel Kessler stepped up and this fight is at Light Heavyweight right ? it could set up some big matches for Mikkel Kessler in the future should he win it, i think Mikkel Kessler is a bit too skilled for Glen Johnson.
And he has the power to make Glen Johnson respect him, i see Mikkel Kessler winning a competitive exciting fight by round about these scores 115-113, 116-113, 115-113.
Johnson has to have one of the most applicable nicknames in the sport today."The Road warrior" indeed.I think he's the type that could have competed in any era.Great match here but I have to go with Kessler, down the middle for a 12 round win.Johnson will make him weary in spots and will not go softly...never has and never will.
Tough fight for Kess, no doubt...
Kess better bring his A-Game cause Glens gonna make his ass work for the win.
I don't think the fights been signed yet so here's hoping it happens.
This fight is going to be a WAR!!!
Hope they show it in the UK,bet they dont.
If Kessler steps into the ring with Johnson, it would officially mark the end of his one year tour of being a huge pussy, and wash away his sin of ducking Edison Miranda.
All I can think of is how accurate and hurtfull kessler was with Andrade and how Johnson starts slow, trundles forward and gets hit, not forgetting Johnsons age.
Getting down to the lower weight coupled with kesslers sharpness, I see Johnson getting stopped.
If Mikkel really does a number on Johnson, who thinks Dawson or Hopkins, or any fighter would be as keen to face him as they are Calzaghe?
Kessler stepping into the ring with Glenn Johnson merits praise. The best at 175, Dawson, doesn't want antying to do with him after eeking out a win. At the end of the day, Johnson is far from the best boxer at 168/175, but he is a tough, live, dangerous competitor who has never been knocked out. Against Bhop in 1997...

If Clinton Woods can beat Johnson, I have no doubts Kessler will and I do see him hurting Johnson.
imo johnson wins too much workrate
Agree but I know that Mads Larsen (SMW) just turned down a offer to face BUTE in Denmark, my guess is that TEAM Palle has Kessler set up for a fight against Larsen in Denmark otherwise I don´t get the move by Larsen.
Apparently this will also free Kessler from his contrakt with Team Palle, if this is true its ok with me, otherwise I doubt we will see Kessler in the mix with the big US names ever
The fight will be big in Denmark like Calzaghe-Froch would be in UK, but outside my country I guess it would be an other gimme fight ;D.
I am still a Kessler fan, but disgusted as a boxer fan how his manager team has handled his fights after Calzaghe.
Hope my concerns over Kesslers future is set at rest soon.
The best boxer should not waste time on Larsen or the likes of Larsen :p
Difficult to say whether this is good or bad. If Johnson was in fact interested in fighting Kessler that would have been a better fight for Kessler, but if he is free from his contract with Palle by fighting Larsen, it might finally open up for some big fights in the US for Kessler
And after the Kessler-Larsen fight i think GBP, Sauerland, Arena etc promoters wil be jumping all over eachother to get Kessler's number
this is a fight! but i think Kessler has enough to pull out the win. but he will get roughed up.
According to a Danish Newspaper (BT), Kessler have said yes to the terms for a Kessler vs. Larsen fight in April. The reason why he is taking the fight is that, if he take the fight he can get rid of his contract with Team Palle and get a new promotor!
I think this could be a terrible fight for Kessler. This is kind of like Cotto fighting Margarito, except Johnson has way better skills and lot more speed than Tony, but less power. He will put Kessler in a phone booth, where I am not sure Kessler will be able to deal with his pressure, I mean he throws as many punches as Calzaghe, but he is also exerting physical pressure on you with his body, and he is smothering your shots by being in so close. Not only that but he does terrific body work and his handspeed is not to be underestimated. As a huge Kessler fan, I am honestly worried for him, and I hope he pulls this off so that he and Chad can face off.
You were right:
Kessler vs Larsen
Dammit, Larsen? Really?
afraid so here is Team Palles respons to the Johnson fight: (Translated by google)
Palle: Mikkel U.S. combat is dead
-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------
The economy is in tatters around the world - not least in the U.S., and therefore call Mogens Palle possibility of a fight against Glen Johnson dead.
Wish scenario is the fight between Dane Mikkel Kessler and Mads Larsen, who sporten.dk revealed Mogens Palle is far in the works
At the same time, it is now obvious that Plan B with a match in the United States against Glen Johnson is dead.
- I can not imagine anything other than that the fight is dead. We have interrogated us, but they will not even pay half a million U.S. dollars in its entirety to get Mikkel over, and before all expenses are covered, so there is nothing left. The question is whether Mikkel ambitions to come to the United States are so great that he is totally indifferent to money. I think so , "said Mogens Palle to sporten.dk.
The financial crisis raging, there is no money anywhere, and its felt in the boxing world.
- There is no money and the money that Mikkel got to meet Joe Calzaghe, they not to be found anywhere, "said Mogens Palle.
Instead Team Palle is working on the Kessler-Larsen-bang, as Palle hopes to run in April.
