Margarito, Capetillo licenses revoked!
Former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito and his trainer Javier Capetillo had their licenses revoked at today’s California State Athletic Commission’s disciplinary hearing. Capetillo testified that he accidentally put illegal pads into Margarito’s hand wraps prior to his bout with Shane Mosley. “I committed a big mistake,” Capetillo said according to the LA Times. “I don’t want this young man to have problems. I’m here to cover any responsibility. I take full responsibility. I committed this innocent mistake.”
Earlier, CSAC Inspector Che Guevara testified that the pad inside Margarito’s hand wraps was “not hard as a rock, but firm and hard.” Inspector Mike Bray testified that there was “a white substance smeared across the pad, like a cast plaster.” The pads, confiscated by the commission before Margarito’s fight last month with Shane Mosley, are still being tested by the Commission. Margarito and Capetillo are currently on suspension pending the outcome of this case.
Last week, Margarito’s previous opponent Miguel Cotto commented to Fightnews.com on Margarito’s current plight. “Margarito and his team are responsible for their acts,” said Cotto. “If they used the illegal handwraps or not was their decision. If it’s true they will have to face the consequences.”

So now he is officially a cheater.
Did he cheat with Cotto?
Did he cheat with Cintron?
We will never know.

Truth will come out someday (prob about 30 years or so) , unfortunately no one will give a shit by then and no one will be surprised.

Tony the fraud. Real disapointed in him. Ah well, fukk him. I'm glad he got KNFO!!

Its sad that any of his good wins will now be under scrutiny for cheating:mad:

So i guess it really is true then. Oh well i guess the BASTARD will learn his lesson.

Re: Margarito, Capetillo licenses revoked!
Unforgiveable.
They knowingly put the health of his opponents at serious risk by giving their boy an unfair advantage. Fighters could have been killed.
I am so disappointed in them all ........ his titles should be retrospectively stripped, they should all be banned for life and be fined massively. Margaroto's name should be removed from the history books.
Nobody only does this once and happens to get caught the first time, especially if you are a reigning world champ who was favourite to beat Shane anyway.
-
Re: Margarito, Capetillo licenses revoked!
If it was a mistake why didnt he come clean right after the fight instead of waiting till now? Also, didnt he say it was just a lot of padding or it was old gauze or something?...Very dissapointing news. Sounds like hes trying to salvage Tonys career now but they are both to blame. I guess now we wait to see what the pads were made of.

Re: Margarito, Capetillo licenses revoked!
I feel sorry for Rashad Holloway who fractured an orbital bone on his face after being hit by a Margarito left uppercut in sparring (This happened when Margo preparing for the Mosley fight)... :(

Why would Margo use Plaster in sparring?

Re: Margarito, Capetillo licenses revoked!
Heres a picture of Margarito right after the Cotto fight. His wraps look normal too me but I guess we will never know for sure. They dont appear to be illegal or raised more than normal judging from this pic, but who knows they could have flattened out after 11 rounds.
Cotto v Margarito

WTF happened to Margarito testifying. One minute he was about to and then no reports of what he said ???His trainer admitted,in an azz backwards fashion to his putting "training pads" in his wraps. What exactly are those? And why do they say in article they are still waiting on results ??I can not take away the mans past and think we can not prove shit as to what might have been then, what next, take every fighter he has trained and trash them also?...but they sure as shit handed them his future and pissed it away.Let him and camp suffer consequences!!!!Feeling pretty fucked up!!!

Re: Margarito, Capetillo licenses revoked!
It's not about them looking different or flattening out.....if Margarito's trainer knew what he was doing then nobody would have been able to tell a difference.

Margarito might have started using plaster in sparring when Paul Williams kicked his ass in sparring... ;D
Seriously, sparring is where you simulate the actual fight... Isn't it nice to already have the familiar feel (the weight, the hardness) of the plastered wraps starting at sparring sessions??
BTW, these are just speculations that might be proven to be true too...

Here's Rashad Holloway's story:
link --> Holloway Reflects on Fateful Margarito Sparring Session - Boxing News
"Holloway's career was put in jeopardy during a December 19 sparring session with Margarito in Montebello, California. Both were preparing for fights; Holloway's was the following week while Margarito was gearing up to tango with Sugar Shane a month later. What started out as his final day of sparring nearly became his last day of boxing.
"To be honest, it happened so quick that I don't even know what happened," Holloway, 9-1 (5 KO), tells BoxingScene.com. "I remember he threw a wild right hand and I slipped it and he switched over to a southpaw stance and threw a left uppercut. And it landed.
"When it first happened, I didn't know what hit me. I've been hit 50 million times in my career, but I'd never been hit with a shot that hurt like that. It felt like a hard object hit me in the face. I thought he hit me with the palm of his hand. It wasn't like a normal punch. It didn't feel like a padded glove hit me. It was like a solid, hard impact.
"It felt like I had been hit with a bag of rocks."

That's called slander and defamation of character.
The only thing that can be proved is that there was a foreign substance on the wraps before the Mosley fight. Whether or not Tony knew is going to come down to speculation and hearsay unless someone can provide some evidence of Margo saying "These altered handwraps are really going to give me an unfair advantage".

Re: Margarito, Capetillo licenses revoked!
No way he did it in sparring. For starters, most pros use 16 oz gloves in sparring so hardening his wraps would be dumb. Hed just elect to spar with 14oz gloves. Sparring isnt about beating up and finishing off the guy in front of you, its about sharpening your own tools. If he hurt Rashad like he says, and thats what his intentions were, then he would have finished him off, which he didnt. In sparring, you get hit with good shots, just like in a fight but Margarito would have nothing to gain if his sole purpose in sparring was to ko everybody.

Cotto v Margarito
That would be the whole idea though, you would make sure they looked perfectly normal or you would get pulled on it.
The thing is we don't know what the hell was in his wraps so I can't tell you how easy it would be to hide, I'm gonna get my wraps out tomorrow and see what I can stick in it and I'll post a pic, because I'm curious as to what you can get in there and still give your knuckes adequate protection.

Dan Rafael reported that Margarito testified that he had no idea the plaster was in his raps. I guess the panel did not think that was credible.

Well he didnt know what he was doing or he want good at it. He was found out cause the wraps appeared different. So they looked normal in the Cotto fight, but not in the Mosley fight. Same trainer wrapped his hands, so it may be an isolated incident.

Re: Margarito, Capetillo licenses revoked!
No one know when he did or didn't use this stuff, they both took a chance they got caught serves them right. Or is this going to be another " i didn't know i was taking steroids route....i don't belive any of them and i don't belive tony or his trainer either. Serves these two right. It's fair to assume these guys used this shit in sparring, cooking, dancing, whatever, that's part of cheating we can assume whatever we want true or false he put himself in that position. I don't think he did but it's fair for those that do. These guys gotta watch the company they keep....ride in the car when you homey guns down an old lady in front of bingo and your ass gets charged all the same.....and no one will care if it was the first time, you didn't know blah blah. This sport is dangerous enough as it is.......and people hate floyd.......amazing.

I think he was a lot more closely watched by Mosleys camp this time around. A guy like Richardson would not miss a trick I would imagine.

Re: Margarito, Capetillo licenses revoked!
Well I must say I am very disappointed....Along with Pavlik, Tony was my fave current fighter; like those rough and rugged, just plow their way through a fight type fighter; but I despise a cheater and so I hope he gets any bad karma coming to him.....A dangerous sport in the best of circumstances; potentially deadly when someone does something like this....Shame on them and now I have to go find another fave fighter....Sum' b#aaaatch:furious2:

Saddoboxer provide a shred of evidence or shut up. Are you going to find the wraps that Margo used in sparring? It's more likely Margo just kicked his ass.

Well it's Holloway who suffered a fractured bone that at one time seen as a career-ending threat to his boxing...
It might be in sparring only but I think it's as grave as the one used in actual fight...
I think no one can blame now if boxers/sparring partners will say they felt something different from Margo's gloves/punches...

Well team Cintron, team Cotto, the IBF, the WBA, The Nevada state athletic commission, and The New Jersey State Athletic Control Board all had a chance to check the wraps and found nothing. Of course people are going to be suspicious, but judge slowly, let FACT be the basis of your statement, not conspiracy. Everyone is sure to come out of the woodwork now.

Re: Margarito, Capetillo licenses revoked!
Well, all I can say is wow. I don't think Tony really knew what Capetillo was doing was illegal but he's still responsible. I'm really feeling bad for Cotto and Cintron. These guys were undefeated prospects who might have been swindled thanks to the wraps that Tony might have used in his fights with them. Hopefully they can take some solace in this verdict and get some of their confidence back and get back to the championships they lost. Tony's career is basically over IMO. I don't even wanna see him comeback. Sucks for him, he was top of the entire world less than a month ago.

I don't think Margo is stupid, he knows how hands are wrapped. He must have known what Capetillo was doing, otherwise Tony would be fucking furious and going public about it.

Everyone loves a good band wagon, yeh we know.Guys get injured in sparring all the time, but here your just putting 1+1 together and coming up with 3.
There are those who trump up and tear down Mosley for his speculative growth hormones and other shite. Its weak imo.Its character trashing and speculation based on colorful language...."A bag of rocks".What is known is what we found out today only, but those with agendas will run with it and call it a certainy cast over his entire career. In fairness, his camp and even himself (knowingly or unknowingly with Tony)...put him in that position and must shoulder it without question..Imo though, its a bit oppurtunistic and somwhat uninformed concerning past fights with no evidence at that time.
There once was a superb WBO Jr. welterweight named Zack Padilla who was at the top of his game and heading for the mainstream. He was a sparring partner for Sugar Shane Mosley, during one sparring session He suffered bleeding on the brain, permanent injuries and his career was over in that instant.I dont think even Mosleys strongest detractors went clamoring for a lawyer or some copy & paste conspiracy theories, but to each his own of course.

I'm also for ban for life... Cheating and seriously risking the lives of other boxers is a very grave offense...
Even if Margo will be allowed to fight again, some boxers will have second thoughts of fighting him... Margo will also have a hard time finding sparring partners... ;D
