Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
WBO bantamweight champion Gerry "Fearless" Peñalosa formally sealed a grand showdown with WBO super bantamweight titlist Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez after easily punching his way to a lopsided unanimous decision victory over Mexican German Meraz in the main event of the other night's "Battle of the Best Bantamweights" card witnessed by a jampacked crowd at the Cebu Coliseum. The official scores were 100-89, 100-89, and 99-90.
Peñalosa immediately called on Lopez moments after he got out of the ring, telling his Puerto Rican rival to train hard and be ready for their April 25 battle in San Juan, Puerto Rican.
"Be ready," Peñalosa quickly replied when asked on his message to Lopez. "It's been my ultimate dream to win three world titles in different weight divisions. If I can achieve that, then maybe it's time for me to consider retirement," added the former WBC super flyweight champion.
;)

Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
I think he should consider retiring now. JuanMa is too young, too strong, and too prime.
-
Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Biting more than he can chew here.
Sure he was good back in his days.
Juan ma-Gerry

Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Haven't actually seen Gerry fight since he stopped Gonzales, but unless he has shown to have gotten much older since then noone should have anything bad to say about this fight. Juan Ma is a beast but Penalosa is still tough as nails and a big step up.
-
Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Might just be one leap too many for Penalosa.I think Lopez should jump on him right out of the gate...the longer it goes though,Gerry is one of the craftiest guys around.Just dont think he can match Lopezs strengh. He'll have to weather a furious beginning to bout but chances get better down the stretch I believe,Lopez is a force, but still a bit raw and green.Penalosa had better invest in that early body work.
-
Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Is like i said before , in this Division the only who can give good fight is Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez , to me probably Penalosa just want a good purse for the retirement , he know what would happen , Juanma Lopez is a Devastator in this division.............is a young with hungry that want try to liquidate to all in this division.................
-
Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Might have to change his name from Fearless to teethless. I literally give him no chance against Lopez. He's got everything going against them. If this fight is even competitive than I think the fix might be in.
-
Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Will be a great fight...JuanMa should win but he can not in anyway sleep on Gerry or he will end up with a loss for sre

I think you forgot the real king at 122, Celestino "THE TOWERING INFERNO" Caballero... He's the current 122 WBA and IBF champion and he will give anyone at 122 a very difficult fight...
JuanMa is young and being young also means inexperience and raw... Peñalosa is old and it also means very experienced and a master boxer...
.

There you go again with your "no chance" prediction... Haven't you learned from PAC-Hoya??
And you think Gerry has no advantage at all, how about experience and boxing skills??
.
-
Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Gerry is too good not to give some chance, but it hink that 122 is just too big for him. His last attempt at that weight was far from succesful. I wish him the best and think he can go rounds with Juanma, and Lopez will learn a lot fighting Gerry.
-
Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Ahh yes... looking forward to the next JuanMa fight. Actually, I'm hoping JuanMa gets in a bit more work than the last three fights. These 1-rounders do nothing to get him the big fight experience he needs.

That sums up how i feel too. If he KOs Gerry in 1 as well he'll find it hard to make the big fights cos there will be a lot of guys shit scared of him!

There is no doubt at all that Lopez is in his prime. If he loses is cuz he turned out to be overrated. Not cuz he's old and shot like De La Hoya was.

I agree... but give Peñalosa some respect and a slim chance... Everybody has a chance even how slim it is... (even Hatton ;D )...

Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
After seeing Hopkins upset Pavlik & Mosley KO Margarito, I'll give Gerry a Good Chance of an upset. Gerry's a masterboxer, Iron Chinned & has a Decent Power. JuanMa really is not a Speedy guy, He's got Power but Power won't matter if it cannot LAND ON THE BUTTON. Gerry's solid defensively so I don't see a juanMa KO.
Gerry's only Chance is a one Punch KO. It will be either by a Body Punch or a Plush left hook to the Chin of Juanma. Juanma's too inexperience. His Fights are mostly a Quick KO. He was taken to the distance by lesser fighter than Gerry. No way Gerry wins the decision in Puerto Rico so I think Gerry will go for Broke for a KO around the Middle of the fight. My wish result is Gerry KO by a Body punch around rd 9. It's not Likely but I'm wishing for an Upset.

Like what he did to Jhonny Gonzales... I was so happy with Gerry's win over J-Gonz since I picked him to defeat Jhonny... ;)

Pretty flawed statement there, we have no idea what a 60% Lopez is, that's what makes the fight interesting is that he is completely untested in the championship rounds, he's blown out his best opponents on paper in the first. I won't argue with you that Gerry has most everything tangible going against him and Lopez is probably a good bet, you obviously have seen more of both fighters than I have. Having said that, Gerry hasn't been seriously hurt in a fight to my knowledge, and if Lopez doesn't blast him out it should be interesting to see what kind of pace he can maintain and whether he holds up in the late rounds. Penalosa is fully capable of changing the fight with one shot as Gonzales found out, he may also just invest to the body early and hang tough. Has Juanma ever even been past 5 or 6? I won't check but certainly not against a live body or recently. If nothing else it's an excellent measuring stick to see what Lopez can really bring over 12 rounds, not to say it will necessarily go that far. What if he tries to blast him out a la Ponce but Penalosa starts landing to the body and stays right there with him? Maybe Juan is a complete front runner or doesn't take a shot to well. I've certainly seen nothing to suggest it's out of the question.

No Saddoboxer , i dont forgot Celestino Caballero and i dont underestimate him also , is just that i mentioned the best who probably can give more fight in certain way........IMO

Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Juanma will have his hands full of Penalose just like Ponce did but I think the workrate would be prevalent to the eyes of the judges and it didn't help him that the fight is happening in PR. Juanma UD.

Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Juanma 1st rd stoppage. Penalosa will go out on his shield with about 30 seconds of the 1st round remaining ;D:p

Nah not really, I just felt like being over the top. I do think Juanma takes him out at some point, but yeah I was overexaggeratin. Forgot to put the ;D;) on the end though

You got me on that one..I'll ride the waves. I think Penalosa KTFO of Juanma in the first 30 seconds of round 1. ;D;)

Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
To penalosa's credit i think he will make it out of the first half of the first round though....
-
Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Unless he's just gotten old overnight this could be a tough fight, he's way too skilled and tough to get blown out early by JuanMa, if that happens I'd be shocked. I don't know, I just have a lot of respect for Penalosa, and he's looked pretty good lately, should have gotten the decision versus Ponce, stopped Gonzalez, he has been inactive though but still this is JuanMa's biggest step up.
-
Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Sup guys,
been gone for a while but wanted to stop by and say my prediction for this fight. of course my boy JuanMa. 5 or 6th round stoppage for me. Gerry is a great fighter but at this stage, JuanMa is too strong, to young and to much of a force for the ageing Penalosa. This also is the best fight JuanMa could take leading up to a fight with the likes of Vasquez, Marquez and Caballero. ;) JuanMa baby!!
-
Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
I think JuanMa knocks him out in the first half of the fight but I wouldn't mind seeing it go longer just to see him get some rounds in against a quality boxer. But he's got scary power at that weight so I don't think it'll last too long.

You gotta be kidding me. Penalosa is too smart of a fighter to engage early. he has great defense and stupendous counterpunching. And correct me if I'm wrong, I think he hasn't hit the canvass in his entire career. It's no secret that Juanma probably packs the hardest punch p4p, but fans are overexaggerating and is delusional if they really think Penalosa is going out early.

Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
Many wrote off Gerry Peñalosa in the Jhonny Gonzales fight and got the surprise in their lives when Peñalosa KO'ed J-Gonz with one punch to the liver... ;D

I was so pissed when that happened, Gonzalez had built a nice lead and everything was going well. And then the cagey old slipped and landed a perfect liver shot, you could see Jhonny was unable to get full breaths.
Jhonny is my favorite fighter, and he did me proud, but credit where credit is due....................Penalosa caught him.
I favor JuanMa, but I don't really know how he'll handle the distance, and Penalosa will definately take him rounds.

J-Gonz need to be careful at all times... I like how he handled Izzy with those long jabs but he's a warrior... He's not afraid to engage...
Better for JuanMa to be careful at all times too... ;)

Well Jhonny is 6-0 (5 KOs) since the Penalosa fight, so he's doing something right.

Re: Gerry "FEARLESS" Peñalosa tells JuanMa:"Be ready"
I want Penalosa to take this, but he needs one shot effect to keep Lopez honest & off.Gerry is alot of things but a rangy power hoitter is not one.It will be close quarters
