"Pacquiao" is now a verb ...
"Pacquiao" is now a verb ...
link --> Pacquiaoed
News analyst and political pundit Ding Gagelonia was the first to take cognizance of this newest verb to invade the eternally evolving American English language – “Pacquiaoed”.
Actually, the term was first used by LA Times sports columnist Bill Plaschke in an article describing how the LA Lakers lost Game One of their NBA Western Conference semifinals against the Houston Rockets at home. Plaschke said that the Rockets did not just defeat the Lakers in the tough and physical (and bloody) Game One – but that the Rockets “Pacquiao’ed” the Lakers!
No matter how it is spelled – Pacquiaoed, Pacquiao’ed, pacquiaoed or pacquiao’ed – or whether it would eventually be added to the American English vocabulary or would just remain to be a jargon for sports writers and columnists, the fact remains that it is a quite graphic verb and instantly calls to mind how our Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao mangled Ricky “Hitman” Hatton of Great Britain in just two short rounds.
Beginning today, Pacquiao is not only a noun (which means pound for pound king, greatest Filipino boxer and one of the world’s greatest boxers of all time), but is also a verb, which means to totally defeat competition through sheer brute force.
Synonyms: overwhelm, devastate, crush, annihilate.
;D

Re: "Pacquiao" is now a verb ...
Today a writer from ESPN use "Pacquiao" to describe a NBA basketball team performance...
"So here goes: Can the Cavaliers, winners of their first five playoff games by an average of 18 points, sweep the Eastern Conference playoffs?
I know it sounds ridiculous. Heck, it is ridiculous. But the Cavs, with their Pacquiao-like beatdowns, are taking all the suspense out of their early rounds, so let me drum up some on my own.
First of all, know that the Cavs themselves couldn't care less about pitching a shutout en route to the Finals. Pardon the bad math, but S-W-E-E-P is a four-letter word in their locker room."

Re: "Pacquiao" is now a verb ...
Pacquiaowin is a Tagalog word, it means to make go away or force as a last result. Like if somebody was bothering someone and that someone had enough he would finally use force, like physical harm.
It could also mean massacre an oppenent.
example: Pacquaiowin mo na! almost like Patayin mo na!
meaning Kill him/it! or Chop em down!
I've heard "pacquiaowin mo na" used before. Just never really connected the word to Manny Pacquiao.
Now that I've thought about it, its putting Pacquiaos name to the word win. Fitting ;D its how Pacquiao wins :D
To bad Bobby Pacquiao is on the wrong end of it :-\

I've been using the term for five years now, so the term wasn't used first by bill plaschke. Maybe first on tv, but not first.

But besides Manny's name it has more to do with a perverted form of linguistics than boxing. If Saddoboxer was that interested in this issue he could have posted the thread on the other board.

I have no issues with Saddoboxer so don't see why I should put him on ignore. I just think this thread is a bit pointless and if it really needs to exist then it would probably be better off off of the main boxing discussion board. There is little actual boxing being discussed here.
Who cares if a writer has used the name Manny as a verb? :-\

Pacquiao being use as a verb by others isn't just a boost of joy for pacfans but it also brings light to boxing. Pacquiao represents boxing, whatever attention he causes brings people into our sport. I know some of you hate how pac fans create so much threads about pac over and over. It makes you guys sick so much that you wish he would lose badly via ktfo. To bad mother nature doesn't allow it i think its because pacquiao himself brings positive attention to boxing. Same people who says they love boxing can say they hate pac, its funny cause pacquiao is what boxing needs.

Technically they have a point since we're only talking Pacquiao here but as you pointed out, it really has some importance for boxing in general...
Heck, they even moved my "PAC as one of the world's most influential people" thread... Now, many boxing writers made reference to Pacquiao as one of the most influential... specially after his demolition of Hatton...;)

it doesnt constitute boxing news though does it?
look around the forum and you`ll see that 80% of the threads on here are about pacquiao by pacquiao fans.
How the hell you can justify starting up ANOTHER pac thread over something as stupid and un-news worthy as this is completely beyond me!!

Pac did great against Hatton and I gave him all the credit for it. I don't hate the guy by a long shot, but will always have to go against him when it comes to other fighters that I have had more of an interest in...namely Barrera and Hatton. I actually agree that Pac deserves his attention and people have every reason to discuss him, I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying that this thread is unneccessary, that is all. It's not about hate for a fighter or anything like that.

I think its ok for hardcore PacFanBoys to come up with threads like these really. It can get annoying sometimes but think about it. When was the last time you heard of a Filipino being under the spotlight as much as Pacquiao or achieve nearly as much? For other countries is normal to have not only one but MANY boxers in different weight divisions as champions and Hall of Famers. Think about Mexico, Puerto Rico, USA, England, etc. So let them be. It may last maybe 2 or 3 more years while Pac is fighting because after that, maybe other Filipino boxers will follow, which is good! More competition to the sport or maybe things will go back to how they were with no asian in the boxing spotlight for many years to come.
Think about this, let's say that Bangladesh beat Brazil in the World Cup and suddenly became competitive and dominate the sport, wouldn't Bangladesh have a lot to brag about, be proud, etc.? Well, think Pac now. Saddoboxer and hardcore PacFanBoys deserves to enjoy this ride while it lasts :) . I just shake my head slowly and smile when I see threads like this :) .
I am glad we have Pac in the sport. He brings excitement, big fights, and all the good stuff. A nice likeable humble guy.

Presently Philippines has 3 boxing champs... Last year there's a time when it has 5 champs at the same time... Many years ago there's a time when it has more than 6 champs at one time...
Currently Filipinos focused more on Pacquiao coz he's so big, so popular... In fact, I think he's the most popular active boxer right now all over the world...;)

Philippines didn't even claimed Filipino-American Brian Viloria... It should have been 4 champs at this time...
Nonito Donaire - IBF 112, P4P #8
Donnie Nietes - WBO 105
Manny Pacquiao - IBO/Ring 140, P4P #1
Brian Viloria - IBF 108
After PAC retires, I think Donaire will take over as Philippines #1 boxer... This boy is so skilled and smart... Donaire is only 26 years old and he's already #8 on Ring Mag's P4P list... Very bright future...
There's also some good Filipino prospects like Bernabe Concepcion (only 20 years old) and Melligin... Future champs...
;D

Of course Chino didnt know that.

I see Donaire getting Pac's 130 million fans worldwide one year from now once Pac retire. He won't be able to do what Manny accomplished, but he'll still be the next big thing. So far he won world title at 112. With his size and power, I see him dominating 115 and 118. I believe he'll also be successful at 122, 126, and 130 two or three years from now.

Donaire will be aiming his 2nd division title at 115 division this coming August 22 against Puerto Rico's 37 year old WBO 115 champ Jose "Carita" Lopez... I think Donaire will be successful on this one...;)

Re: "Pacquiao" is now a verb ...
terrible pac-man threads continue.. what a shock..
they won't actually put this word in the dictionary because pacquiao may eventually have a fight with mayweather..
this would cause a bit of ambiguity in the word after that fight.. :)
