Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
Both fighters are multi-weight champions, and are future hall of famer's.
If they both retired Tomorrow.
Who has the better legacy?

I can understand the argument for either side but for me at the moment it's Pac if they retired tomorrow.
However,if Floyd beats both Marquez and pac I would have to give it to Mayweather.it's that close.
-
Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
It remains to be seen, but right now I would say Pacquiao by a very small margin.
-
Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
Mayweather by the closest of margins...
-
Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
a dont even think its that close ppl getting a bit carried away with the hatton ko a think maywather would see off pacman quite easy imo
-
Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
In terms of achievements, its Pacquiao for me. In terms of skill though, its Floyd Mayweather Jr.

If they were to fight I think Floyd beats Pac.
However we are talking about current Legacy and with 4 lineal championships and titles in 6 weight classes Pac's legacy is marginally better than Floyd's imo.

I can't see how anyone wouldn't think its close? Pacquiao' fights with Barrera, Morales & Marquez are more than enough to make it close. But for me the loses are one factor in the difference! Morales beat him (sure he avenged that lose twice, dominately which shows how great Pacquiao is but he was beaten) & both Marquez fight arguably could have gone either way (I thought Marquez won both).

I would agree with you on Marquez maybe scraping the 2nd fight but not the first.

Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
pacman currently
he ko'ed Hatton in 2, Mayweather in 10
he ko'ed DLH in 9 . Mayweather barely beat him
btw Castillo beat PBF inthe first fight.

Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
At this point in time, I think PAC has the better boxing legacy compared to PBF... PAC a 4-time lineal champ (the only boxer to achieved 4 lineal titles) and a 6-division titliest... PBF a 5-division titliest...
PAC:
1998-12-04 112 Chatchai Sasakul - LINEAL TITLE
2001-06-23 122 Lehlohonolo Ledwaba
2003-11-15 126 Marco Antonio Barrera - LINEAL TITLE
2008-03-15 130 Juan Manuel Marquez - LINEAL TITLE
2008-06-28 135 David Diaz
2009-05-02 140 Ricky Hatton - LINEAL TITLE
PBF:
1998-10-03 130 Genaro Hernandez
2002-04-20 135 Jose Luis Castillo
2005-06-25 140 Arturo Gatti
2006-04-08 147 Zab Judah
2007-05-05 154 Oscar De La Hoya
;)

Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
I think there were two similar threads to this topic recently.
Just look through those two and people have already spoken their opinion about this...

Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
Anyone who voted Mayweather over Pacquiao must be out of there damn mind...Seriously. IMO, you're place in history is based on the COMPETITION you've faced. To say Mayweather has faced tougher, better competition then Pac respectively is just plain ridiculous.
Pac's biggest wins: PRIME Morales 2x, PRMIE Barrera 2x, PRIME JMM 2x, PRIME Hatton.
Mayweather's biggest wins: Beyond Prime ODH, JLC (he was gifted the first fight), very troubled Diego, Hatton (please, Hatton already proved he didn't belong at 147lbs when he was doing the chicken dance against Collazo).
Seriously...the ones who voted for Mayweather are either related to him directly or blind/devoted Mayweather fans.

I Agree
There are alot of blinkered fans out there who will never look at the facts
Blinkers glued to head following their man like :allhail:

Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
Juan Manuel Marquez: "Mayweather is the best, not Manny Pacquiao"
Well I respect that... That's his opinion but I say "Mayweather is the best in avoiding the best opponent" ... ;D

I think Pac has the better legacy atm (though it is very close), but this post is absurd.
Hatton was not prime, nor was Barrera in the second fight, Morales was not prime in the third fight and a reasonable claim could be made that he was removed from his prime prior to the second fight as well.
Regardless of the way you try to deride him, Mayweathers victories over Castillo (even if you feel PBF lost the first fight, which was close, he absolutely dominated him in the rematch), Hatton, Corrales, and ODH are all impressive.

Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
When it comes to people in and around boxing you're going to have a debate. Outside of boxing, Pacquiao already has a huge Legacy. You will probably see another movie or two about him not in documentary format.
-
Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
My Opinions:
Who's better = Mayweather
Who wins if they fight = Mayweather
Who has the better legacy (currently) Pac quite easily!!

Why are you comparing the KO's?
Mayweather isn't a come forward one shot KO fighter, he is a lay back counter punching defensive master who has underrated power. So it's not unheard of that Pacquiao would KO people Floyd didn't it means nothing.
You actually think that Floyd "barely" beat Oscar? That's a laugh.
Castillo beat PBF in the first fight? Marquez beat Pacquiao in the rematch and Pacquiao barely salvaged a draw in the first fight despite knocking him down 3 times.
Anyone can speak out of hate but to make an outlandish statement like Floyd barely beat Oscar..
You just looked up the records on boxrec didnt you?

I'm a Pac fan and even I admit that Floyd beat a much better version of Oscar at a higher weight. The Oscar that Pac faced was a shell.imo any decent fighter north of 135 would have beat Oscar that night.
Hatton's punch resistance has been gone since Floyd took his '0'.
You can be a fan,but look at the facts without the 'blinkers'

Who are these guys????
David Diaz?? o wow
I'd have to say Pacquiao has proven himself quite well and at the moment it is very close, but I see Mayweather as the better fighter. A win over JMM (whom im very confident he will beat) will IMO clearly give him the better legacy

Chatchai Sasakul is a very good boxer from Thailand... He was the lineal flyweight champion (the man at 112 division) when PAC beat him...
Lehlohonolo Ledwaba is a good boxer from South Africa, a highly rated super bantam... He was the IBF super bantam champ when PAC beat him... PAC fought Ledwaba on short notice as a replacement opponent...
David Diaz most notable win is against Armando Santa Cruz... Santa Cruz is the same boxer who was robbed by Joel Casamayor...

Re: Pacquiao or Mayweather - Current Legacy?
Mayweather - better overall boxer. But for various reasons likes to take the easier route. Scared to lose?
Pacquiao - fearless, takes risks. Better legacy.
A lot of sucess stories are from people who have nothing to lose and are willing to lose to achieve success. It is still early to tell, both fighters have more fighting to do.

It might be a factor in the equation, but a better test might be if they both left boxing today, who would be remembered more in 20, 30, 50 years from now.

I would probably go with Pac ;) makes for better video clips
