I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
I give all the props in the world for what Brinkley was able to do that fight and that was a fight that reminds me why I love the sport when so many things remind me of the bad things... A seemingly outgunned Brinkley willing himself through the first 5 rounds to take ove a fight where he was clearly on the short end of the stick with speed and power. I loved watching it and bravo to ESPN for airing that.
I'll say that Brinkley is extrodinarily ordinary as far as skills and power but he's got a heart and will that get him through rough patches.
On the Bute Brinkley front I have one sentence... Bute will end Brinkley's career.
But Brinkley deserves a payday after that showing so I say more power to him.
Bute is going to make Brinkley look 2 times as slow as Stevens did and after Brinkleys "pop"(which is pretty much nonexistant) goes in about round 3 Bute will have no respect for him and batter him to a TKO/KO by round 5.

Yeah it was a great moment for him, Stevens before the fight said "This fight won't last a minute, I'm going to KO him in 50 seconds, he's not in my class"
After the fight, Stevens looked to high five Brinkley and Brinkley just walked away.
Stevens didn't have a plan B and he barely had a plan A which was 'remove head from neck'. Stevens really needs to take some time off and learn fundamentals of movement, the importance of body punching and a much better understanding of range.
But while I agree that Bute will have a field day with Brinkley, he has this win under his belt. A fight in which he was a heavy underdog against a young, strong prospect with highlight reel KOs and didn't just win, he completely mentally devastated him.

Oh, sure. If anything after the beating he takes from Bute at least it'll set up another profitable rematch with Stevens... Brinkley deserves it after ripping off 9 straight win and it would have been 10 if he had held on against Spina. Spina is a club fighter but he sure is strong.

Miranda will be fighting Bute on April 17th

What the hell would he have done to warrant a title shot against Bute? I mean, at least Brinkley has fought for the #2 contender spot in an eliminator... Miranda has done nothing to warrant an IBF title fight. Maybe WBO... I think he's ranked like 6 or something by the WBO. That's the only belt not in the Super Six after the IBF that Bute holds. Andre Ward made him look silly as would Bute. Bute is fast, crafty and uses movement. Sound familiar?...

Re: I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
I never thought Brinkley would make Stevens looked so bad but I knew Stevens was not a good professional fighter and he doesn't look to want to be. Curtis Stevens is better suited for the amateurs and somehow he just doesn't get that he has to work on many things. He just refuses to learn how to box. He has a very nice jab and hardly uses it. He pulls away a lot when he thows his left hook. His head movement is minimal and when he finally gets inside he doesn't capitalize by throwing numerous body punches. Not to mention that his body type is at a disadvantage for a long fight, 10-12 rounds. Also Stevens movement coming in is too predictable. Shawn Porter is a short muscular fighter who knows what he is. He even went down 2 weight classes to compensate. Stevens should take note. But back to Brinkley. Brinkley does deserve a payday but Bute will have served Brinkley like a lesser sparring partner. He has nothing to match Bute in any department. But I do appreciate that Brinkley is going to get his payday.

Seems to me a come forward, plodding guy with a chin just got the teeth smashed into the back of his throat by Bute... Just sayin. ;D

I still cant believe this Contender guy is still going.

Re: I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
This was a great fight!
Even though I was rooting for Brinkley I thought he would get caught early. Not in 50 seconds or anything like that but in the first 3-4 rounds. Full credit to him for standing in there and out-boxing & out-slugging Stevens.
Being a fan of Jesse's I don't like the idea of him getting in there with Bute. Bute will beat him with ease barring a lucky shot. I think Jesse should target the WBO Champ Stieglitz or a rematch with Spina.
Bute vs Miranda is The Favorite For April 17 on HBO - Boxing News
I figured HBO would pick Miranda.

I mean, I can't blame them... Miranda is exciting, has a chin and power in both hands as well as stamina... It'd be a fun fight to watch with Bute probably taking him out late or winning a wide decision...
...But as far as the IBF goes, like I said above, what the hell has Pantera done to warrant an IBF title shot besides being a name? WBO... yes, he's a highly ranked contender in their rankings but Brinkley has earned the payday.
-
Re: I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
Bute will completely outbox Brinkley or Miranda. Bad fight for Miranda if he wants to remain on HBO or Showtime. I agree that Brinkley deserves the shot although he will be thoroughly outclassed.
Bute is between a rock and a hard place. Who can Bute fight? No one outside of the Super Six would be remotely competitive at 168. Even outside of his weight class, there isn't much out there. Pavlik has enough to keep him busy for the next while with Martinez and Williams. Hopkins will fight Roy and retire. Pascal is set to fight Dawson in his next fight. I'm pretty sure Diaconu and Bute are friends because of their shared heritage and woudn't fight. Am I missing someone?
-
Re: I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
I was about to say something nasty about Brinkley, but thank goodness for research. I was thinking about Anthony Bonsante. I remember Allan Green trouncing him and as Bonsante crawled off the canvas he was blinking heavily. Brinkley will get his hat handed to him in a box with a bow by Bute, but good for him.
I can't believe there is still such a thing as an Edison Miranda.
-
Re: I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
Miranda is fun to watch when he's a hair below the elite level but he gets mashed whenever he moves up. The best he ever looked at that level was his first fight with Abraham and the only reason it got as far as it did is that Abraham fought with a broken jaw. The second fight proved much different. Miranda is a blown up middleweight that can't hang with the big boys at 168. Miranda is going to end up being a gate keeper at 168... Nothing more.

Again.
He should of never of punked out of the Robert Stieglitz fight. It was a loss for him. But at least he had more of a chance than he has against Bute.

Re: I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
The better question is... If Miranda and Brinkley fought.. Who would win?
I have Brinkley on points. Too sharp, doesn't care about getting hit, and he knows how to corral a totally offensive minded fighter pretty well.
Hell I don't even think Miranda could beat Stevens at this point. He is almost exclusively a man with a punch.

I tend to agree though I wouldn't really call Brinkley "sharp"... Yeah, Miranda is a man with a punch against middleweights and the David Banks of the SMW Division... =D

Re: I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
So Miranda loses a war with Pavlik where he was up on the cards before the 6th round. He goes toe to toe with Abraham in their first fight and puts on a better performance against Andre Ward then Kessler did.
Now you think he couldnt beat Brinkley or even Stevens? Man that is just some stupid shit.... Miranda has officially become the most under-rated fighter on this board.

:beat: What fight were you watching. I had Pavlik winning every round until the stoppage. And he looked like crap against Ward. Why bring that up?
-
Re: I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
2 of the 3 judges had Miranda up going into the 6th round.
-
Re: I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
If Bute and Pavlik win their respective fight, they should then cross the leather together. At least, that's what HBO has in mind by diffusing simultaneously both of their bouts. Miranda is classed #9. Not so bad. I would have preferred another stronger opponent for Bute but guess that the best is yet to come.

Well regardless boxing is a "what have you done for me lately" sport. It's a mute point cuz Ward is going to unify the titles and fight Bute after the super six which will be a pic 'em fight for 168 supremacy.

Re: I watched Brinkley/Steven last night finally after hearing Brinkley/Bute is on...
Damnit I have been meaning to watch this fight. I drank a little too much too soon after a bad day at work. I watched first round then woke up at 2:00 in the morning and I just said " shit I didn't tape it". Then I missed the replay the other day.

You forgot to mention Abraham has a broken jaw early doors then in the rematch destroyed Miranda with out breaking sweat ;).
Kessler would smash him aswell.

So Miranda loses to Ward, who you consider to be 1 of the top 2 SMW in the world. He loses to Abraham who I would assume you think will fight Ward in the finals of the S6. Abraham is currently boxrec p4p #9. He loses in what we have already discussed a war with Kelly Pavlik up to the 6th round. Pavlik is currently Boxrec P4P #15. And now Miranda is going to fight Bute, the current Boxrec P4P #10.
Miranda has one of the most impressive resumes today in boxing. How you can say he would probably lose to Brinkley and especially Stevens is laughable to me.
Brinkley loses to guys that are not even ranked in the Boxrec top 50 of their divisions and Stevens..... well we all know he isnt even on Brinkley's level.

For starters Boxrec rankings are a fucking joke to have Bute anywhere near the top 10, secondly you need to take your dick out of Miranda's mouth. You are deluded, his resume?? Who the fuck has Miranda beat remind me?
He gets praised for getting Knocked the fuck out by Pavlik? Pavlik owned him in that fight simple as that. He got smoked against a fully fit Abraham in a one sided beat down, and lost nearly every round against Ward so he is basically an average fighter with some power who most if not all the top 10/15 at 168 would handle.

Yes I actually think Ward will unify. I think Ward will beat Abraham, yes. I don't look at boxrec rankings because a formula in a computer doesn't dictate rank. Pavlik walked through Mirandas punches and spashed him up against the ropes. I don't care what the judges say.
Lets look at this "impressive resume" you speak of...
Just so you know how a resume works... You don't normally put down the jobs you got fired from for failing at(Getting knocked the f*ck out or losing)
So his resume of finely tuned wins since the first Abraham fight...
Willie Gibbs
Allan Green
Henry Porras
David Banks
Manuel Esparza
Joey Vegas
Francisco Sierra
Wow!!! You're right!!!! I didn't realize.
:owned:
Allan Green is the best fighter on there and that's while he was still reeling from his sickness... Don't make me laugh with your resume talk. He's a 168 gatekeeper at best and won't get a belt unless he fights for a vacant one which I don't see happening anytime soon.
You're welcome for the lesson

OK, Ill give you that the jobs you got fired from dont help your resume. They do give you experience, but ok, let's throw that out the door. Im about to hire Miranda, Brinkley or Stevens. Let's only look at their wins as the resume we need to hire from.
Miranda:
Allan Green
Howard Eastman
Willie Gibbs
Henry Porras
David Banks
Manuel Esparza
Joey Vegas
Francisco Sierra
Brinkley
Curtis Stevens
Mike Paschall
Joey Gilbert
James Johnson
Jason Naugler
Ottis Griffin
Isiah Henderson
Dallas Vargas
Stevens:
Piotr Wilchzeski
Don Mouton
Ray Smith
Thomas Reid
Darnell Boone
Johnathan Corn
Dhafir Smith
Marcos Primera
And if I happen to put their records next to their names then Brinkley and Stevens would be eating food stamps for a long time.
Who the fuck you gonna hire? :lickish:

The guy is a complete joke POB, he goes round all the boxing forums spouting shite about Miranda, its just pathetic, I couldnt stop laughing when he praised his resume, when all the meaningful fights he has been destroyed.
He pops up now and then with his Miranda glasses on, no doubt he still thinks he is a force at 168 :-\.

Read my posts you jackass. I am only defending that Miranda has a better resume then Brinkley and Stevens and provides a more desirable fight for HBO. You wanna say Bute will kick Miranda's ass, I wont ague. But to say that Stevens would beat him..... On what fucked up grounds can you back that up.

No no jackass, go have a little back track and you will see, that you put " Miranda has one of the best resumes in boxing " That has to be one of the worst/false statements I have heard in long long time.
Give it up, he's entertaining but fans/deluded people like you give the fighter a bad name.
