You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Shane Mosley WILL BEAT Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Shane's smart, he's strong, he has very quick hands, he's not killing himself to make weight, and Floyd can't hurt him.
I think Floyd has been apprehensive about fighting a couple guys at 147 and rightfully so in some cases: Cotto, Williams, Margarito, Shane Mosley, and Pacquiao. Now of course the Floyd fans will say Floyd has little left to prove and those fights didn't make sense etc etc but Floyd's record speaks for itself he never once said "Give me Cotto and I'll beat him" or "Give me Williams and I'll beat him" he simply waited until they lost and said "See, they weren't worthy of a shot vs me" and it doesn't make sense for Floyd not to fight when the money is to his liking. If he was truly "Money Mayweather" he would have fought at least 3 of those guys because you cannot tell me that ANY of those fights wouldn't have made HUGE money at the gate and on PPV.
Stylistically Floyd has very little to offer Shane, the guys who have beaten Shane either use their height and reach (Forrest & Wright) or are durable enough to trade with Shane and get the better of him (Miguel Cotto and to a lesser extent De la Hoya in the rematch was able to hang with him). Floyd has great defense but he isn't as effective until he gets a fighter to tire themself out, vs Judah and Hatton he allowed them to do work early and chase him around the ring while he pot shotted them for at least half the fight knowing especially that Zab would have 0 to offer him later in the fight and that's when Floyd turned it on....Shane doesn't have much in the defense department but he's strong and he's got fast DANGEROUS hands and he's going to beat Floyd.

Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Nice post and damn I hope so , and I hope Pac loses too and they both have pissed away the biggest purse ever for both being idiots.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
I HOPE Pac loses as well but Clottey isn't going to do it. Pacquiao and Floyd not making that fight have totally sapped boxing's momentum and it was building big time over 2009.

Shane will be around 38 and 8 months old with 15 1/2 months of inactivity when they get into the ring. True, more than likely Floyd doesn't hurt Shane, but Floyd's style of fighting isn't about hurting guys, it's more outboxing guys. Floyd didn't hurt Oscar once in their fight, but yet he decisively outbox Oscar and took the win.
And also Shane doesn't have his Balco drugs like the clear, cream, and EPO to boost his strength, speed, and stamina.;D
Floyd wins 8-4, but people will think it's a close fight with Shane being aggressive and trying to pressure Floyd and throwing punches that are meaningless and not connecting.

Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Hope Lyle is right about the fight but I got a feeling that Floyd is going to be just to sharp and Mosley is going to find it hard to land any decent shots.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
That is fighting talk, Lyle...and I like it.
Seriously, fingers crossed. I hope he batters Floyd like we've never seen before. Floyd is no spring chicken now either with his own massive layoff inbetween fighting a wonderful lightweight in Marquez. Mosley needs to get it all right, but if anyone right now has it in him to make Floyd go through heaven and hell and make sure he resides in hell....it might well be Mosley.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
I defnitely see Mosley as a harder fight for PBF than Pac would have been and for years I have been saying that Mosley is the man to beat Floyd. But I think the fight has probably come too late now and see Floyd winning a narrow decision
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Shane has one more advantage that Hatton, Marquez, and Oscar didn't have:

Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
In order for Mosley to win he has to bring the fight to Mayweather. Otherwise, Floyd will just dance around him and outbox him. Unfortunately, age and inactivity will be working against Shane.

Floyd knocked himself down in his fight with Hernandez. He hit Hernandez and took a knee or something like that grabbing his wrist. Been a long time since I watched that fight.

Not for me Floyd will punish Shane for a big ud win.

Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
I think Mosley will have his moments but Floyd wins so clearly that before the fight is over people are talking about how old Mosley is. Mosley nearly lost to Mayorga a while ago, he got outboxed by Cotto. Floyd wins.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Some bold statements being made on this thread, no way am I jumping on this wagon. Floyd will dominate Mosley. As some have already said I don't think Floyd will get fair credit because I think he will make it look so easy and people will just say that Mosley was old.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Shane had all these impressive qualities when he fought, collazo, forrest, cotto, and mayorga and we see how much of an advantage he had against these guys. Collazo made him look ordinary, forrest beat his ass, cotto beat his ass again, and mayorga one of the easiest wins out there damn near beat him, and based on that he'll beat floyd ??? I'd like to see it too guys but there is little chance in damn hell shane will win. I'm not all that sure he'd have beaten berto really. Most of this hype is built off of shane beating a robotic marga cheat o after having the main weapon of his gameplan taken from him in the locker room right before the fight. With all the drama and what not going on tony had less chance than shane has. Shane will paw paw paw and "bam" get countered and battered all night. Shane brings absolutly nothing floyd hasn't seen or already beaten. A case can be conjured to make it seem any fighter can beat floyd. Hell the dude does it himself on those stupid 24/7's to make it seem like he might loose..........but we all know he never does. Awhile back shane would have a better chance although i still say he'd loose. But now he's slower, older, etc. While floyd has barely ever even been touched. Good luck to shane though, he's really reallly gonna need it.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
we all know mosley aint beating floyd, be realistic now
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Hope Shane catches him early and hurts him so that the fight balances out a touch.
Otherwise I think Floyd makes him look slow not because he is, but because of Floyds timing and lateral movement to counter; when Shane comes straight at him trying to use forward body movement to empathize his hand speed.
Go Shane.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Mayweather is just much to lucid in transition for Mosley, I see him winning virtually every round against any version of Mosley save for prior to say 2003. This thread definetly needs to be bumped after the fight happens imo. And don't get me wrong, it's a great fight and great for the sport, but probably moreso the latter at this point.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Lyle, I serioudly want to bet you on this one. I think Floyd is way too much for Mosley. I know we have the rep and sig bet for when Haye beats Wlad but I think we could maybe have a 1 month name change for this one if you have the stones to accept.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Good suggestion and in the ring there is no sure thing.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
rjjtszyu, sure I'll accept that bet.
All I can say is STYLES MAKE FIGHTS and if Floyd had trouble with De la Hoya and he couldn't stop Zab Judah or Marquez then he's not going to hurt Shane. Shane has fast hands, he's strong, and he's got a great chin. I just don't thin Floyd has the style to bother Shane, he's not tall, he doesn't use a conventional 1-2, his defense and counterpunching are great but that alone won't get him a win over Shane.

I see where you're coming from, but IMO Shane's only chance is if what Floyds detractors say are true and that he cant handle a 'proper sized strong welter', and crumbles under sheer strength. If he can then thats one less thing people can say baout him.
Alot of people quote stuff like speed and power as if they can be quantified like in a video game, Shane still has some power but only when hi winds up noadays, and wont land those shots often enough to hurt Floyd IMO.
Another 'attribute' where a lot of people gigve credit for in Shane is his Stamina. He's shown heart and guts to dig deep late in rounds recently against Mayorga and Cotto. While he gave a lot of heat in those rounds he was winging away really unlike when Floyd is forced to the later rounds still has is balance and composure intact.
I'm goin for Floyd comfortably, maybe not causing too much damage cos lets face it even when he has a man beat like Marquez or Baldomir he doesn't go for the kill, which is less likely against a pumcher.

Lyle, the only reason Zab didn't get knocked out was because he punched Floyd in the nuts. Marquez took a whoopin', but okay, Floyd didn't knock him out. But en route to a landslide victory Floyd made an elite fighter look very bad.
Winky also doesn't use a conventional 1-2 and his defense and counterpunching are great and that DID get him a win over Shane. Height and reach didn't have a lot to do with why Shane lost. Winky doesn't fully extend the jab, he just uses it to pat you on the head and oh yeah, he didn't hurt Shane either. And now Shane's several years older and fighting a guy who is just as defensive minded as Wink, who's even more dedicated to countering.

Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
It's been an up and down for Mosley overt the past few years although in retrospect, i can really discredit Mosley for his performances. I still see Mosley as a Top Tier fighter.
I think Mosley's last four fights against Collazo, Cotto, Mayroga and Margarito get blown out of proportion for all sorts of reasons.
I think too many people underrate Mayorgas performance. Maybe it's the awkward style of Mayorga? I give Mayorga the credit of putting up a great fight... He is a very canny fighter in a weird way. Plus he was 10 pounds bigger than Mosley that night. For some reason Mosley can't handle big guys?
But the main thing is he pulled through. It must of been almost heart breaking knowing both Tito and Oscar destroyed Mayorga yet here is this guy still there giving him.
Also, does anyone else think that Mosley would destroy Cotto in a rematch?
inflammatory comments aside... This could be a pretty straightforward win for Mosley if he just starts fast, keeps his shots straight and keeps on pressing.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
I hope you are right. Shane has got to go for the body and be aggressive.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Floyd wins this going away. He doesn't have to hurt people to beat them.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Mosley definitely has a chance.. he's gonna try make a war out of it

Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Those saying that if floyd wins the excuse will be because shane is too old...its not an excuse its a fact..shane is 38yrs old..that's old for any sport esp in boxing.
but I've been waiting for this for sometime now. I remember saying on this forum four years ago shane has the tools to do it, and I was bashed heavily because of shane's performances against vargas. Now it seems as though more guys are believing shane can do it. I don't know if its because they floyd want to lose or if they actually believe the old shane can do it.
But hindsight shane probably wasnt ready not because he lacked physically but because he didn't have the x factor...NAZ..shane will stick a very stiff jab in floyd's face early much like he did in the first oscar fight.

Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Just for posterity's sake when this thread is bumped, Floyd by wide UD something around 117-111/118-110.

Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Mosley will murder Floyd....Bank on it.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Mosley ain't gonna do shit. Maybe 10 years ago when he was younger, faster, and stronger, then yeah. Not to mentioned his special vitamins that he got from Victor Conte.
I'll be shocked if Mosley wins more than 3 rounds.
-
Re: You heard it here first, Mosley will beat Floyd
Although I'd love to see a Mosley win it won't happen! Mosley is a great fighter & a fight between these two at 135 would have been magnifacent, but at this stage Floyd wins this easy!!!

That is very true early on, but Floyd will probably evade and counter for the first half of the fight until Mosley looses some steam.
I hope you are right and Im wrong I really do.
I would be upset if Floyd wore him down and finished him that would just about kill me.

Couldnt agree with you more. But by God I hope we are wrong.
Shanes speed isnt just raw hand speed he hits on the move timing other guys spaces and thats a forward movement, Floyds reactions and angles will balance that out at this stage.
