After the Mayweather/Pac fallout who is really excited about Pac/Clottey?

I know that I am not excited about it. They keep announcing ancient or corrupt additions to the undercard and I still think to myself "Here is a P4P fighter who has ducked out of the biggest fight of the decade because of a refusal to take a drug test". I am not excited nor interested in Pac/Clottey at all. I am much more interested in Mayweather/Mosley and I don't really care all that much about what the preliminary lineup might be either.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

I'm not excited about it at all. I don't know if it's just backlash from the Pacquiao - Mayweather negotiations or what, but I'm just not anticipating this fight. Clottey is a legitimate welter-weight contender and he's a very credible opponent for Pacquiao, especially coming off the string of fights he's had, but to me the only question in this fight is whether or not Pacquiao is able to stop Clottey.

I must admit also that when I think about Pacquiao's accomplishments now they do feel somewhat tainted because of his refusal to undergo the drug-testing, so that certainly plays a role in my disinterest.

I would much rather see a Pacquiao - Mayweather fight to be honest.

I'm happy to see Clottey get another shot at a big time fighter though, Clottey proved he could hang with the top guys against Cotto.

I think Clottey causes Pacquiao alot of trouble early with his tight guard and underated countering ability. I see Pacquiao upping the pace after 4 rounds and Clottey won't be able to match Pacquiao with workrate. If Clottey is able to maintain a good workrate though, he will be a seriously tough fight for Pac.

Pacquiao by unimpressive but quite clear decision.

As a replacement Manny couldn't have chose a more tougher fighter. Clottey is huge and a solid fighter, who's never been stopped.

He could cause Manny problems with his size, but ultimately it is intriuing to see how Manny can deal with, and even stop him!

I didn't know Clottey missed 147 that much! He is too big for the weight then. But knowing that why isn't Clottey's dollar/lb. stipulation against Pac ridiculous like they pulled on PBF? I'm starting to wonder how much did Pac really want that fight. PBF stuck to his guns against Mosley, a known PED cheat, why didn't Pac stick to his against Clottey who obviously comes in over 147 way too much? Anyway, I am one of the few who is actually excited for the Pac/Clottey fight. I am not big on Clottey but I do like to watch Pac fight and the more I think about this match up I lean towards a Pac stoppage. Clottey will be a punching bag waiting for his turn to punch. But I think Clottey or someone in his camp has to know that he must impose his size and be more aggressive and not hold back like he typically does. So I guess I am excited in hopes that Clottey sees what everybody else does and makes this fight interesting. When he had his aggressive moments against Cotto, 2 or 3 times:p, he looked good and effective. So I'm hoping he has learned his lesson in letting the Cotto fight slip. Along with the Margarito fight, not stopping Corrales, and barely eking out a victory against a badly cut Judah. Clottey has to learn to be aggressive at some point doesn't he? Doesn't he?

This fight would have been great a year back after Pac's victory over Oscar to see if he could fight a prime legitimate welter, but now that everyone sees Pac as a genuine welter?

I usually buy only 1 ppv a year, so it's Mayweather vs Balco Shane.

I am...there is more to boxing than those two. You know why they BOTH can get away with all thier bullshit and silly games is cause we let them. I look forward to any big fight and this is a big fight. It'll have more action than floyd one side-ingly beating mosely's ass and the result is more in question as well. You know what, after Pac beats Clottey I have a feeling he's going to fight Margarito next. I just have that gut feeling.

I'm not at all excited about this fight. Clottey is a dream style match-up for Manny. The only question is whether he can stop him. Plus Arum has already started talking about who Pacquiao fights after Clottey (Margarito, Valero), which tells you all you need to know about how dangerous a fight this is.

Also Uncie Bob hasn't chosen to help Clottey with getting his trainer a visa into the country, meaning that Clottey will have had about 2 weeks less training than Manny by the time they fight, not to mention more weight to cut.

I wouldn't be surprised if he missed the limit, but as others have said Team Pacquiao's consistency on the weight penalty demand is sadly lacking. Considering there was a $10m per pound penalty with Mayweather of a likely $40m purse, you'd think a $250,000 penalty per pound of Clottey's $1m purse. Talking of which given that I remember reading that Manny was gettin $10m for this fight, that makes it one hell of a split.

My main question is, knowing how often Clottey has missed 147 and the fact he comes in fight night so heavy. Why isn't Pacquiao doing the "each pound over 10million dollars" thing he tried with Floyd? Floyd is staying true to what he wanted and is asking Mosley to take drug tests which Shane has accepted. Why isn't Pacquiao sticking to what he says?

Floyd ultimately comes out of this looking better then pac. Pacquiao ducks out of a fight with Mayweather over a drug test and fights Clottey. Floyd bides his time, waits for the opportunity and makes a fight the fans want to see.

This is way too true. That is just the problem. Pac's overly zealous fans are going to be there. But Pac gets unfair obvious bias protection from journalists who twist things and leave facts out to favor Pac. And this is what has turned a lot of fans and would-have-been Pac fans away.

I think rather than being critical thinking journalists, we are getting propagandists who are trying to put their own slant on things. They should be trying to cover all the angles and providing a fuller picture, but they are not. In this sense, they really arent fulfilling their obligations as professional journalists. Its a shame.

No your not the only one to feel this way. I think Pac vs clottey should be re named 'who cares?'

Just hope clottey makes the most of his chance.

i don't like the fact other fighters are saying they'll fight Pac and don't want him testing. I know fighters think that this makes them sound fearless etc, but all they're doing (other than trying to line pockets with a payday) is giving pac a way out and options, not to mention if he is a juicer an opotunity to carry on juicing. Personnally I'd love it if ALL fighters refuse to fight/deal with him unless he proves himself clean. That sort of embargo would be great for the sport IMO.

It's been like a political race in here concerning Mayweather/Pacquiao match-up fiasco with each candidates supporters. 80%-90% of it was a big turn off. There are still writers out there using the controversy to get reader hits. I've stopped looking at 99% of them directly.

Many of my causal boxing friends like watching Pacquiao's fights because he's exciting to watch. My wife and her friends watch Pacquiao and don't even know who the opponent are. She might show some vague intrest if I'm watching a good fight but usually doesn't care if there is no social effect.

They tend to feed off the vibes I give as a boxing fan and intuitively know if I'm excited or not. I get excited with any good match-up and while I had hope for Pac/Mayweather, it didn't and I've moved on.

My wife a non-boxing fan, can't even remember the dates when big fights are going to happen and I have to remind her that I'm watching. Her dad, a true boxing fan at 96 years of age knew who was fighting last night even though he couldn't watch. As the fights draw closer I get more excited and I don't see Pacquiao / Clottey any different especially being that Clottey is much bigger.

Now look at Mosley - Mayweather... Mosley has all those thing Clottey has, the ring experience, plus the power. On paper anyway that's how I see it.

Pac-Clottey is too predictable IMO. Clottey is a good fighter, but he aint in Pacquiao's league. And yes although Pacquaio is fighting a big ass welterweight I think he handles Clottey without too much trouble.

Is it a let-down from a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight? Yes. Is Mayweather/Mosley > than Pacquiao/Clottey? Yes. Nevertheless, Clottey is a top-five welterweight who has been in with the best and Pacquiao is coming off of three great career-defining wins.

I expect this fight to be a fun watch too. Clearly, the likely outcome is Pacquiao winning on the cards with volume-punching. However, Clottey has stood his own ground with Cotto and Margarito; he won't wilt easily. Has Clottey ever even been down? He hasn't been knocked out. At the end of the day, more than we can say for many boxers, when is a Pacquiao fight not fun to watch?

Manny always gives us an exciting fight and I enjoy watching exciting fights. Can anyone remember any fights that Manny was involved in that wasn't exciting?

I don't think you got my post. He isn't fighting Clottey to "fight the best"

That fight with Clottey was strictly made by Arum in a rush attempt to try to make Floyd look bad "we dont need Floyd to make a big fight"

Floyd was being business smart by waiting, and when a golden opportunity happened he took the fight with Mosley the first chance he got.

Arums stupidity was rushing a fight to get people on the anti-mayweather bandwagon and what happens? Floyd comes out looking better then Pac and makes the point for himself that Arum was trying to make for Pacquiao. When you stop being a promoter and stop being juvenile to the point where it can effect your fighters entire career its time to step down or get some sense talked into you. No journalist has bought this up at all and half of them kiss Arums rear nowadays but there's no way to defend that.

And I bolded whats important as well another point I want to make.

All you said about Clottey there is true, now he comes in upwards of 147 on fight night Clottey comes in at 160 or even closer to 170 on fight night. Why would Pacquiao and his camp NOT try to make Clottey do a (if you weigh over 147 pounds you will pay 10 million dollars) like they did with Mayweather who comes in at most 150 or more by fight night. Why could he not stick to his guns? Mayweather obviously is sticking to his with Mosley(who is shown to have done PEDs before). So why would Pacquiao not request a "if you weigh over" rule for Clottey who has come in over 147 11 times in his career?

Makes you wonder how badly Pacquiao wanted the fight doesn't it?

And further proves this fight wasn't made with any thought out strategy on it other then "try to make Mayweather look bad" and they wind up looking worse.

As a replacement Manny couldn't have chose a more tougher fighter. Clottey is huge and a solid fighter, who's never been stopped.

He could cause Manny problems with his size, but ultimately it is intriuing to see how Manny can deal with, and even stop him!

I'd have to go for a Manny UD, but it is not an easy fight for him at all!

Clottey is big and durable yes, but his output is abysmal, and he simply plods forward with a high guard...............especially as fights go on. Pac wins this quite easily on sheer volume. I'm with CFH on this the only real question here is if Manny can stop him or not.

I mean outside of a lucky shot, can anyone really give me a scenario where Clottey can win this?

The only real question here is if Clottey makes weight or not. He has missed the 147 mark 11 times already in his career.

I didn't know Clottey missed 147 that much! He is too big for the weight then. But knowing that why isn't Clottey's dollar/lb. stipulation against Pac ridiculous like they pulled on PBF? I'm starting to wonder how much did Pac really want that fight. PBF stuck to his guns against Mosley, a known PED cheat, why didn't Pac stick to his against Clottey who obviously comes in over 147 way too much? Anyway, I am one of the few who is actually excited for the Pac/Clottey fight. I am not big on Clottey but I do like to watch Pac fight and the more I think about this match up I lean towards a Pac stoppage. Clottey will be a punching bag waiting for his turn to punch. But I think Clottey or someone in his camp has to know that he must impose his size and be more aggressive and not hold back like he typically does. So I guess I am excited in hopes that Clottey sees what everybody else does and makes this fight interesting. When he had his aggressive moments against Cotto, 2 or 3 times:p, he looked good and effective. So I'm hoping he has learned his lesson in letting the Cotto fight slip. Along with the Margarito fight, not stopping Corrales, and barely eking out a victory against a badly cut Judah. Clottey has to learn to be aggressive at some point doesn't he? Doesn't he?

So, it seems that he is within the weight division that he was fighting at except the one in '97 & '99 (unless they were using a different weight division in those two bouts).
