Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
There was some website that said the fight starts at 6 EDT on Friday morning, so it should be 3 in the morning for me on Friday because I live on the West coast.
Anyways I got Hasegawa by mid to late round stoppage.
-
Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
Important fight for Hasegawa, he finally gets to put a big name on his record.
A stoppage would make a big statement. I reckon it'll be a tight-ish fight with Hasegawa a clear winner.

Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
Hasegawa by decision around 116-112.

Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
I’m going with Montiel on this. But it’s a very hesitant pick. Anybody familiar with me knows I’m very big on Hasegawa. But I don’t let favoritism cloud my judgement. And I don’t see Montiel being denied. Montiel knows the chances of him getting a points win if it’s close are pretty slim. So I think he’ll go for the knock out from the start. He’ll take his share of punches. Might even go down once. But I think he’ll get the stoppage late in what will be an outstanding fight. 9th or 10th round

You could well be right about the outcome, I think it will be an outstanding fight.

Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
Whatever the outcome I also agree with everyone else that it has the makings for a good fight.
This fight is like the appetizer before the main course which would be the Mosley/Mayweather fight.

Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
Hasegawa KO or late stoppage. If anybody has a good stream for this can they pm me please. I'm guessing it's about lunchtime Friday for the Brits. Apparently it's going to be on Sopcast somewhere, there seem to be a lot of free stream sites and boxing blogs claiming that they're going to have it.

-
Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
Looked like Montiel sussed him in the 2nd, then Hasegawa came back with a good 3rd, was getting closer before punching, then Montiel started catching him again before the KO
-
Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
It was a good fight for the 4 rounds it lasted.
-
Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
If he didn't trap his left hand on the ropes he might have survived the round. Ref had no choice to step in though, probably a bit late if anything
Lot of head clashes early.
-
Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
I knew Montiel would go for the KO from the start. Didn't think it would come this early. But damn. Time for Hasegawa to move up in weight
-
Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
Fucking unbelievablr. This literally is the first minute I could get to a computer and I fucking missed it. Well done Montiel.
-
Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
The reply is on right now if anyone missed it.... not sure if I can say where, but you pm me if you need it. ENJOY!

Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
Great win for Montiel, and that was an excellent fight while it lasted, although I personally felt that Cole could have given Hasegawa a chance with the round so close to the end. VD is right though, Hasegawa needs to move up, the fact he's talking about going straight to 126 says it all about the difficulty he's been having making weight

You're right I remember reading a few months back that he was planning to move to 126. Boiling down to 118 for years ain't good for your body especially at 29 years old.
Still a good win though for Montiel.

Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
Definitely a good win for FM. Hasegawa was doing what I thought he would in the 3rd, and he was catching Montiel! It is also good to see a mini megafight like this happen with an elite boxer and a long standing champion.
Bring on Donaire!

Donaire will duck him again

Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
Donaire has been a big disappointment in terms of taking on elite opposition. It's been 3 years since his win over Vic, would have thought he would at least fight a top 3 guy at 112 or 115 by now.:-\
And he's an US based fighter that's promoted by Arum, surely he could have been in the ring with at least another top caliber opponent?
-
Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
Watching the stoppage from a different angle, Hasegawa was trying to cover his chin with his right forearm, he was a bit unlucky that his left was trapped.

Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
great, surprising win by montiel! i thought he had a chance but didn't think it would end this early. he beat a great tactician and warrior in hasegawa. this by far is montiel's greatest career victory and cements him into the HOF. a montiel vs. darchinyan or donaire fight would be tops. also a fight with the WBA and IBF champion would be great as well.
-
Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
....is it too late to pick montiel ??
-
Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
So Montiel won? I guess that means Donaire must climb a place in the Ring rankings seeing as they both fight in the same division.
They will both be in the top 10 now for sure, soon to be joined by the as yet to be revealed 8-1-1 fighter who will come from straight from the paddyfields and into a world title upset.

Donaire is a 115 fighter, the Hasegawa-Montiel fight was at 118.:vd:

Oh no I feel so silly. They are all 7 stone weaklings and overated is the point I was making.

Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
I'm genuinely surprised by this result. After watching the video, it was the right decision by Cole (I feel dirty just saying that). I expected to feel otherwise when I read that it was stopped at 2:59, but it's not Cole's job to take time into consideration when stopping a fight and Hasegawa was done.

Mate most of the American Under 10's national girls baton twirling team could probably beat me in a fight but it doesn't qualify them for p4p status.
It just annoys me these guys fight in a weight class in which only about 200 people compete worldwide and they rise to the top of this tiny pile and are considered to be the equals of true stars like Mosely, Hopkins and Cotto.
Wisla Krakow are the most successful current football club in Poland with back to back league championship wins in 08 and 09 bu it doesn't rank them alongside the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona because they play in a shitty league.
Yet in boxing it seems I am the only person capable of realising this important distinction.
When Montiel or Donaire inevitably lose their world titles to either a figher with half as many losses as wins or else less than double figure fights no one will consider it was becuase they just weren't that good. Instead they will just hail this new 'crab fisherman cum fighter' as the next great star to put down his rod, scythe or plough and prove himself amongst the world's boxing elite...

I think you're exaggerating greatly when you say that guys like Donaire and Montiel are consider to be stars of the same caliber of Cotto, Hopkins, Mosley.
So were Barrera, Morales, Salvador Sanchez, Manny Pacquiao, Hamed, Willie Pep, Alexis Arguello, not consider to be true boxing stars that fought the majority of their careers in these lower weight classes?
I remember you said somewhere that guys under 10 stone or 140 pounds were not real fighters or boxers or something of that nature. Which I find ridiculous.
If you like the higher weight guys then say so, no need to talk bad about the lower weight guys because they are smaller men.
True boxing fans will still like to see a great fight at 118, 122, 126, or any weight class for that matter. Doesn't have a bearing on what weight class it is for someone like me.

My stream wasn't great, but after the fight ended he didnt look at all bad? I think if given the minute he would have been okay to continue...I dont really see the point in stopping a fight with one second left, surely he could said nope your fucked at the end of the break? (question: do refs actually know how long is left?) Didn't seem pissed about the decision though.

Well according to Ring Magazine Donaire is better than Hopkins and Cotto.
I don't criticise guys like Barrera and Morales at all. They went through multiple weight classes and absolutely proved themselves to be elite.
But the 115 lb guys who never move beyond the weight class, or if they do lose to unknown paper champs like Joseph Agbeko are simply not nearly of the same calibre as even guys like Carl Froch and Kelly Pavlik.
There is no way any elite guy (top 3 or 4 in a weight class) would ever go life and death with a 14-3-1 club fighter like Donaire did. And these guys routinely lose their titles to part timers with records like 11-0.
I mean look at Mijares, this 'star' of boxing loses twice to a 16-0 part time fighter who himself has since lost to a little known belt holder.
It just couldn't happen in the higer weight classes because there is too much competition.
Boxing in the 115 lb weight division is like playing football in the Albanian Superliga, or the Blue Square Premier league (UK non league), being the best there doesn't mean you are actually any good in an absolute sense.
I'm not saying great fighters can't come out of these leagues, but if they do they prove their greatness by moving up and winning belts in multiple weight classes against professional opposition.

You're just cherry picking certain fights to aid your argument.;D
We can play this game.
Wladimir Klitschko got KO by bums and he holds the grandest prize in all of boxing, the HW championship. There goes your theory!
How about a few more in the higher weight classes that you are so fond of?
David Haye who some people here are touting as the next great HW champ went life and death with Monte Barret and got ko by Carl Thompson. lol
How about Kostya Tszyu that got sparked out by Vince Phillips, not an elite fighter in my eyes at all?
ANd your favorite fighter Amir Khan who fights at the higher weight classes you love got sparked out in 56 secs against what looks to be a journeyman at 135. lol
Come on man.
And Ring magazine is subjective with it's p4p rankings, just like how different people have their own top 10 fighters.

I'm sure Cole knew it was near the end of the round, but I doubt he knew there was only one second left. He saw Hasegawa defenseless and getting pummelled against the ropes and he stopped it. I loathe Cole, but he made the right call here.

Re: Hasegawa vs Montiel on 4/30, who you got?
The biggest Hasegawa fan "Killersheep" wasn't here for this.
Wonder if he got news of this out in Italy?
This is def. a huge witn for Montiel and just what his career needed.
Great champions win titles on ANY land no excuses.
None of this I wont travel bullshit that some fighters seem to think they are entitled to... :beat:
