Great win for Montiel, and that was an excellent fight while it lasted, although I personally felt that Cole could have given Hasegawa a chance with the round so close to the end. VD is right though, Hasegawa needs to move up, the fact he's talking about going straight to 126 says it all about the difficulty he's been having making weight

You're right I remember reading a few months back that he was planning to move to 126. Boiling down to 118 for years ain't good for your body especially at 29 years old.

Still a good win though for Montiel.

Definitely a good win for FM. Hasegawa was doing what I thought he would in the 3rd, and he was catching Montiel! It is also good to see a mini megafight like this happen with an elite boxer and a long standing champion.

    Bring on Donaire!

Donaire has been a big disappointment in terms of taking on elite opposition. It's been 3 years since his win over Vic, would have thought he would at least fight a top 3 guy at 112 or 115 by now.

And he's an US based fighter that's promoted by Arum, surely he could have been in the ring with at least another top caliber opponent?

Watching the stoppage from a different angle, Hasegawa was trying to cover his chin with his right forearm, he was a bit unlucky that his left was trapped.

great, surprising win by montiel! i thought he had a chance but didn't think it would end this early. he beat a great tactician and warrior in hasegawa. this by far is montiel's greatest career victory and cements him into the HOF. a montiel vs. darchinyan or donaire fight would be tops. also a fight with the WBA and IBF champion would be great as well.

So Montiel won? I guess that means Donaire must climb a place in the Ring rankings seeing as they both fight in the same division.

They will both be in the top 10 now for sure, soon to be joined by the as yet to be revealed 8-1-1 fighter who will come from straight from the paddyfields and into a world title upset.

Donaire is a 115 fighter, the Hasegawa-Montiel fight was at 118.

Oh no I feel so silly. They are all 7 stone weaklings and overated is the point I was making.

I'm genuinely surprised by this result. After watching the video, it was the right decision by Cole (I feel dirty just saying that). I expected to feel otherwise when I read that it was stopped at 2:59, but it's not Cole's job to take time into consideration when stopping a fight and Hasegawa was done.

And yet these 7 stone weaklings can probably whip your ass in the boxing ring and in a street fight.
