Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
Now that this fight is back on, it's worth having a thread about it, any Abe fans out there?
May 14
At Carson, Calif. (Showtime): Super Six World Boxing Classic semifinals, Andre Ward vs. Arthur Abraham, 12 rounds, for Ward's WBA super middleweight title; Cristobal Arreola vs. Nagy Aguilera, 10 rounds, heavyweights.
Ward figures to win an ugly decision, but I would love for Abraham to rock the "SOG's" world and pull off the upset.
Thoughts?

I hated Abe but when he was dqd and my fav fighter crushed him I grew major respect for him

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
I don't know why Ward changed his style so much since he was an amateur. He used to box circles and use his speed and distance. Now he fights tactically close like B-Hop. Its been very successful but this style is probably the worst out of all the Super Six styles against AA. Ward may very well be the best fighter in the tournament but I'm telling you that his style is the worst against AA's style. He leaves a lot of opportunity for AA to get his short punches off. AA doesn't even have to wait rounds to walk him down. His power punches will be in range the whole fight. Ward is a cerebral fighter but I am very interested in what he has plan for this fight because I think people are wrongfully counting AA out due to the previous styles which Ward doesn't care to display.
-
All I can say is don't bet on this fight,
This one could go either way, look for ward to show no heart/heart of a genuine champion and bhop Abraham.

I'm hoping we get a good performance out of Abraham, he's got the power to hurt Ward, so we could see a hell of a fight..

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
I see a very one sided win for Ward now. I wouldn't have predicted that at the start of the tournament though. After watching Abraham destroy Taylor, I thought he was going to win the whole thing. But Froch and Dirrell both schooled Abraham and I think Ward will do the same now.
I think that the fight of the tournament may well be Froch vs Johnson!

Chances are, you are correct, and the "SOG" will win an ugly decision over Abe, but since I don't care much for Ward or his style and would love to see him lose, i'll be pulling for Abe.
In re: Froch vs Johnson, yup, i'm looking forward to that fight, it could be really entertaining, Johnson seems to be reborn hard at 168, I wouldn't count him out.

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
I think Ward wins a UD, as for Froch-Johnson yea i expect a great fight. Johnson always brings it, and i expect some great moments in that fight.

Nobody expects AA to win, that's one of the reasons why I hope he does. ;D
As for Carl vs. Glen, Froch is going to get his chin checked, it should be fun to watch.

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
Ward wins by TKO or TD in the middle-to-late rounds. Abraham winning here would be more shocking to me than JuanMa losing to Salido.
As far as the Froch v. Johnson scrap, it's a closer fight, I favor Froch now, but Johnson is a live underdog and may take him to deep waters before Froch pulls it out for a decision win. I'd be surprised if he stopped Johnson. I may take a Johnson bet actually on this one depending on the odds. Fenster?

I think it depends on how Abe & Ward matchup in the ring, and what version of AA shows up. If the Abe that fought Dirrell shows up, he's in for a long night against Ward. AA does have decent power, and that could be a game changer.
BTW, I don't see Ward knocking Abraham out or stopping him (unless it's on cuts from headbutts), and it wouldn't be that big of shock if Abraham won, Ward is far from unbeatable.
-
Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
Normally I'd back Abraham in this one, but I want to see Froch-Ward and not a Froch-Abraham rematch in the final. That's assuming Froch gets by Johnson, which isn't a foregone conclusion by any means. I think it could be a little ugly but Ward should win a comfortable decision.
Rant, the best odds I can find on Johnson are 333 (10/3) for him to win outright, 550 (11/2) for him on points and 850 (17/2) for a KO/TKO. That's just from a quick look on oddschecker though, somewhere else might have better odds

I respectfully disagree with some of what you said. As to the outcome of the fight, I believe Abraham will lose a technical decision, a la what happened to Kessler when he fought Ward, or his corner will throw in the towel in the middle-later rounds because he so far down on points and isn't showing them anything. I would be impressed if Ward actually knocked out Abraham.
Ward successfully stifled the offenses of both Kessler and Bika and Green who are all naturally bigger men than Abraham. I don't see how he won't also prevent Abraham from getting off his punches. Abraham had power at 160, but I haven't been convinced that power translated well into 168. Moreover, whereas Abraham is coming off of a bad loss, Ward is coming off of a solid win. I believe this is a blow out in the making.

Well don't get me wrong, I don't expect AA to win this fight, just sayin', i'd love it if it happened.

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
Arthur will not be knocked out, Abraham is king. He can be beaten, my biggest concern is... will the fight be on may 14. Abraham for life, he symbolizes more than fight, cause in his precieved weakness he finds strength. I think that is something that every scrapper, hound dog, back alley mutt, workin to the bone guy can relate to. Go Abraham. Go Abraham. Go Abraham.

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
Despite my dislike for Ward as a sportsman, there is an inherent pointlessness (not to mention anti-climax) of another Abraham/Froch bout.

It's actually kind of funny, Jack must be a big AA fan.

Ward has no skill. Olympics means nout!!
If ward had balls and skill he wouldn't cheat by headbutting. Boxers only do that if they lack mental fortitude
Do what I say and quote me
-
Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
I will admit Ward butted the shit out of Kessler, but i don't remember him butting Green or Bika. I don't remember him butting Edison Miranda or anyone else before that either. So I don't seem to understand why people say Ward always headbutts:confused: And for dropanuke saying Ward has no skill, you are crazy.

Mmmnn everyone is a little confused, that's understandable specially when Arthur puts him down. I love the little Armenian. Abraham knows survival

All joking aside, I'd like to see AA do well in this fight, the "SOG" just ain't my cup 'o tea.

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
bump..
Come on guys, no love for Abraham vs. Ward next saturday? I mean just because the fight will probably be an ugly foulfest, and suck ass is no reason not to watch it, hell, the "SOG" might be the next big thing in boxing. ;)
Showtime will likely show the all new trimmed down version of "Criscoball" Arreola vs. Nagy Aguilera on the undercard, let's rock and roll!

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
I'm looking forward to it, i always look forward to some boxing on the weekend. While i don't expect Ward to KO AA, i do expect him to completely outbox him and hopefully send him away for good. I've never liked AA, and think he's outmatched in this tourny. His cover up and try to land the big punch style doesn't work with guys who are more skilled than him, like Froch, Ward etc.

I'm just hoping we get to see a good, competitive fight saturday, Ward will likely win a UD, but I wouldn't totally count AA out, i'd love to see an upset.
-
I don't think ward will go inside with abe but I could b wrong, froch had the most effective gameplan and can't see ward doing that as I reckon ward is easier to hit than froch, ward can b out boxed but if u chase him then that's his game,
Froch would beat ward to the jab all night, but abe is hoping ward goes inside cos he will have a better chance of landing something cos he certainly won't b using the jab well as per usual!

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
Ward should box if he wants to win this match without getting knocked out. He has the speed and Abraham needs to get a wild dog transplant for that evening to cast a shadow on Ward's chances of winning. I have a feeling it's either a hard fight for them or a sleeping pill for us fans.

Thoughts?
When you are a turtle or use that kind of D, you have to throw like Winky. I suspect this fight will resemble very much what the Dirrell scrap looked like. Abrahams biggest problem is his inactivity. He seems to hold off and then try to accomplish the task in the last couple of rounds. You cant do that at this level.
Their is a chance I suppose that Abe could catch him diving in head first ala the Kessler fight but I would not bank on it and neither should his camp. Ward switch hits on the fly better then anyone since Hagler and with that kind of hand speed, Abes a punching bag.

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
That's right a punching bag you can hit all night, only Abraham bites back. Give all my love the son of god never pays me back... may as well go to my alcoholics anonymous class. We are all little sog's an it is a great time to be thankful that some of us don't attend AA. Can't wait for the fight.

He didn't do much biting back against Froch though did he?
I think it'll be relatively comfortable for Ward. He won't let Abraham get set to throw his big power punches and should be able to dominate with his speed and movement. With Abraham's power you can't count him out completely, but I was one of those that thought he'd beat Froch because of his power and he never really threw that many bombs. He was never set to throw them and couldn't deal with Froch's jab and movement. I can see something similar happening here
I'd imagine it'll be like watching Ward working the heavy bag for 12 rounds, with Abraham mounting some occasional offense. I want Ward to win because there's just no point at all in seeing Froch-Abraham II in the final if Froch gets by Johnson. I'd much rather see Froch-Ward as I think the SuperSix has at least shown those 2 to be the best fighters in the competition so it's only natural that they should meet in the final. Really I don't see much point in the semi finals even taking place at all, it should have just been a Froch-Ward final to begin with.

I agree Froch-Ward would be the natural or most logical ending to the SS- tourney, but it wouldn't break my heart to see the SOG lose to Abraham, and if it ended up being Froch-Abe in the final, that's just the way it goes.

Re: Abraham vs. Ward - Saturday - May 14th
I just can't see a way Abraham competes here. Ward is just too sound.
But I also can't see Ward really hurting King Arthur.

I kinda expect the bold as well. Froch Ward would be a wonderful fight. More fun if it takes place in the UK with those looney fans!

Hey Arthur please do me a favour and throw everything u have at wards body!
Do what u did with Taylor and it will pay huge dividends. Don't try and head hunt just go for the body
