Who does Pac fight next?
Of course we would all want Pac to fight Mayweather, but let's be honest that fight happeneing next is very slim. So who does he fight next?
I'm thinking Ortiz or Bradley would make the 2 best candidates. With my ideal choice would be Ortiz, even though he just moved up from 140 looks to be massive on fight night as in at least 160 pounds. It would be an exciting fight also with their 2 styles.

Re: Who does Pac fight next?
It'll be a third fight with Marquez, in November 2nd or 3rd week I'm hearing. We all know he's not fight Floyd yet again.

Re: Who does Pac fight next?
Marquez. Pacquaio will knock him out.

JMM will take anything PAC offers and sell himself out. Fight at 147, sure take the tests! of JMM will not do ask that of PAC. What other option is there he has tucked in all the washed up old former champions and Arum's marketing has made him look greater than he really is. The next question is which former chamion has recently lost and is fragile mentally but can bring interest = Berto. (Arum formula) I keep hearing how no young fighter has earned the right so cancel Ortiz is too young, fast and dangerous. PBF ...... PAC will not take tests so JMM at a disadvantage weight class is only option. The substitute Berto but I doubt it. Bradley has no power or appeal. However Pac fans will find a way to justify this match like this recent Mosley fight and recent past fights .The better question is who after JMM?

Marquez....that fight just has to happen.
I don't see any other interesting match ups for him....Zab? Maidana? Berto? I just am not up for anything other than Pac-Floyd or Pac-JMM

All this weight disparity thing with Marquez is an urban legend blown way out of proportion. Marquez is not obligated to make 147 if the fight is made their. He can weigh in at 141. Manny consistently weighs in at 145 and is probably only a few pounds heavier at fight time. Fact of the matter is they would be just a few pounds apart at fight time and theirs really no size mismatch at all. Think about when Armstrong first went to 147 he had to drink small lakes to make himself appear bigger on the scales.
-
Re: Who does Pac fight next?
I guess JMM but I dont think pac would get as much credit.
Beside Floyd there is nobody 140-147 that is near Pacs level. Bradley, Khan, Ortiz, Maidana, Berto I honestly think would be an easy KO win for pac.
I think Pac would get the most credit if he fights Martinez and that is what I want. I am hoping that fight happens next. Pac vs Martinez would be huge and is the only fight Pac would be the underdog in.

JMM at 140 or 147 ? 147 is a mismatch in favor of Pac.

Re: Who does Pac fight next?
Pac "pussifies" present and potential opponents... that said, I think he should just retire, for fights where he would excel, the slambang affair, will be slim to non existent.
The fights that are left no longer present interest despite being money fights.
He should just take solace in the fact that he fought the best opponents on credit and left everything in the ring every fight night.
Let the naysayers have a field day... not only will they not have enough garbage to taint his name, they too will only sound libelous and defaming, but only cheaply compared "wannabe's" to that of the Mayweathers.

That fight will take place at 140 or 147 and I don't think JMM can compete with him at that weight. That's why I think Ortiz or Bradley is the best opponent for him. Some new and dangerous youngsters in the game. I stlll favor Pac to beat them both handily but it's something new.
And btw if he fights JMM in a 3rd match it will be said that JMM is Floyd's leftovers even though Pac fought him years before Floyd.;D

Re: Who does Pac fight next?
From a legacy perspective I can only think of three fights that matter
Floyd
JMM at 135
A suicide mission to win the legitimate middleweight title against Sergio Martinez
I don't see any of those happening.
From a moneymaking point of view? The following could be boxed up to sell I suppose
JMM at 140-147
Zab (stilla dangerous guy)
Kahn
Bradley
Ortiz

I agree but at some point he needs to fight an up and comer to combat the angle that he Cherry picks old washed up fighters. Are you a boxing fan or in it for Pac only? Thinking Martinez is way too much unless they think they can catch weight him. At the rate Martinez is fighting and the opponents vs Pacs he has no leverage to pull off the catchweight unless Martinez is stupid. I also find it offensive as a fight fan that Pacs promoters and Pac fans can sell marquee names with losses in previous 1-3 fights above the names you mentioned like Kahn, Berto, Ortiz, Bradley. How did Mosley deserve the fight? How did EM deserve the 3rd fight after his rune up loss? Then you factor in PBF beating common opponents first. Why are you so taken by the fact Pac's achievements are questioned? I do not recall such a journey as open to ridicule. Arum is too blame his only concern is his pocket books. I just hope no drug use ever surfaces as it would erase everything and bring great shame to the great /prideful Filipino people. Which ties to the theme as to why he will not take the test!

Well spoken but suicide is how legends are made . Now a days they are made on PPV, Blogs and social sites by non boxing fans on Facebook. Sugar Ray Leonard fought guys on their terms not what PAC is doing/ done. The JMM fight should be at 135.140 is midground, 147 unacceptable or yes a PBF left over end result.
Otherwise follow protocol and fight a top 1-2 contender. Stop fueling the situation!

Re: Who does Pac fight next?
It should be Marquez but after Marquez fights this summer against a junior welterweight. Marquez talks about fighting David Diaz; Diaz is a lightweight and wouldn't help Marquez adjust to the higher weight class he would be fighting Pac at. If Marquez takes a David Diaz fight at 135 before he fights Pacquiao then it is confirmation that he is going into the Pacquiao fight just for the check. Unlike Mosley, Marquez, however, is a warrior and will go out on his shield.
Other than Marquez, I like Bradley as Pacquiao's next opponent because Bradley will bring the fight for all 12 rounds. Bradley will head butt and do it ugly and Manny will be forced to fight through a little adversity. Manny will win but it will be fun while it lasts.
Judah will lose the next time he steps up in competition. Mark my words. He really lost against Matthyse, let's be honest.
Khan and Pacquiao won't fight eachother.
Sergio Martinez is too big for Pacquiao but a win over Sergio Martinez is the only remaining fight other than PBF that does anything for his legacy although perhaps a dramatic ko over Marquez improves it a bit too.
-
Re: Who does Pac fight next?
Ortiz would be fun, for about 4/5 rds. then Pac KO's him very similar to Hatton.
The more time passes the more it benefits Pac to fight JMM.
Last night it should have been JMM in that ring.
It just sucks because JMM is getting older and slower while Pac doesn't stop.
Still I back JMM to finally get his due "W" over the #1 p4p fighter in the world.
I just realized Zab "Peanut Head" Judah has racked up some wins.
Seeing as Pac thought SSM was worthy and noticeable opponent.
I would not be surprised if we saw Zab vs. Pac next...

Re: Who does Pac fight next?
i think if the floyd fight doesn't happen, he should just retire, he's cleaned the sport out, if he retires now he goes down as one of the greatest. But regardless of what they say, i think floyd and manny both NEED each other, its a fight that has to happen, the rematch, and maybe a trilogy and then they can both retire and be p4p number 1 and 2 because i personally think they have surpassed many fighters out there, were looking at speacial fighter here folks.

Hahaha! Mick! :D It never fails to give me a chuckle whenever I am reminded of that term that you just brought out... "Peanut head"
I believe this is the nick that Muhammad Ali "endearingly called Larry Holmes back in the day.
Anyway... I once called a big, bad bully the same term... "peanut head", in reference to the odd shape of his head, froze him right on the spot, befuddled! Harhar!
***** ***** *****
...Anyway, I hope that when Pac and JMM get it on for the third time, out of respect for both greats, the timing will equally still be relevant for both men in terms of their respective health and career significance... Please... none of the Roy Jones-Bernard Hopkins 2 variety.

No, only that JMM genetically did not move above 130 as pharmaceutically as PAC. Fight should be at 135 but PAC will have it at 147. Big advantage period but more so with every increase in weight class. Plus JMM I believe has aged more.
-
Re: Who does Pac fight next?
As much as I'd love for Pacquiao to fight JMM a third time. I can't see it happening unless it's at 147 or around that. JMM is starting to slow down a bit, he struggles early but adapts and dominates late, but he is starting to slow down just a little bit. I think he would still cause Pacquiao problems at 135, or heck even maybe at 140. But at 147 I think Marquez at his age right now would look slow, and his reflexes wouldn't be as responsive. Pacquiao can fight at 147 and 140, this is a given and he can fight comfortably at either weight. But I don't see him fighting Marquez at any weight that isn't 147.
So if we were looking at Welterweights Pacquiao would fight next, assuming it isn't PBF. He might fight Ortiz next. Maidana would be a pointless fight in which we'd hope for a slugfest but wouldn't really prove anything we don't already know. After Mosley there really isn't too many 147 pounders that are shot enough to make it a catch weight fight. So Im getting the feeling that Pacquiao will probably fight someone in some kind of catch weight 145 fight against a 140 pound title holder. And the guy out there most likely to fold due to Pacquiao's style, would be Zab Judah. I mean think about it, Pacquiao is out to fight Mayweathers last opponents and 'beat them' better than he did, Zab Judah just won a 140 pound title whatever that means nowadays, and people felt Zab was Mayweathers toughest fight at 147, so if Pacquiao fights and beats him next, then that just adds to it. That plus Judah is shown to fold under pressure, which is what Pacquiao does.
So my guess is the next guy Pacquiao fights will probably be Zab Judah. The story is there, the suspect chin is there, the tendency to fold is there, and the title is there. So that would be the best next fight for Pacquiao.
Pacquiao will be retired anyway by the time this kid turns professional anyway ;D

JMM at 140 or 147 ? 147 is a mismatch in favor of Pac.
Not if Marquez is smart. The weight is not what is going to make it a mismatch. It is the age and time since the last fight. marquez has declined since their last fight while Pac has improved (although he was a bit sloppy looking last night with the feet and didn't use the right hand enough).
Marquez has to be smart. Don't be any bigger than when he fights at 135. He walks into the ring around 144 in those fights.
Pac weighed in at 145. But he isn't gaining much weight before going into the ring. No unofficial scale last night, but I don't believe he weighed but 148 or 149 when he fought Margacheato.
So Marquez, be as close to normal and come into the ring at 144. Pac comes into the ring that night at 149.
Marquez gives up 4-5 pounds in weight in the ring. That is less pounds than Berto gave up to Ortiz when they fought. When they weighed in, Berto was 145, Ortiz was 147. But when they got in the ring, Berto was 155 and Ortiz was 161. 6 pounds difference.
Marquez tried to get bigger when he faced Floyd. He gained 4-5 pounds. He weighed in 142. He weighed 148 in the ring (only 4 pounds more than his lightweight fights). But those 4 pounds made him look slow as hell.
So Marquez just needs to come in normal weight, let Pac be normal weight, give up 4-5 pounds in the ring (and that size difference will be less than the size difference guys see in quite a few fights at welterweight).

Re: Who does Pac fight next?
so I looked it up. Pac weighed 148 vs Margarito when he got in the ring.
Marquez weighed 145 in the ring against Katsidis.

when they fought last time, Pac weighed 145 in the ring. Marquez weighed 141 in the ring.
So since they last met, Pac's in the ring weight has gone up 3-4 pounds. Marquez's in the ring weight has gone up 3-4 pounds.
Weight isn't the issue, rather it is the decline of Marquez and the improvement of Pac.

Re: Who does Pac fight next?
Besides Myaweather, i would like to see JMM or Ortiz. I think both would make a great fight, but with Ortiz being GB and JMM possibly being GB we will have to see if it happens.

When Marquez fought FLoyd he weighed in at 142. In the ring he weighed 148. He was happy to get on HBO's unofficial scale. He did look soft at that 148.
Against Katsidis he weighed 145 in the ring and didn't look soft.
I believe Marquez's team tried specifically to get him to gain weight against Floyd and he just ended up bloated. He has a 144-145 pound body in prime condition in the ring.
