Fights that made you literally cry
Literally..........cry with sadness or cry with any emotion........
or just fights that effected you deeply to this day in some emotional way, that something is still lingering about the fight after all these years.
I still can't get over the hurt, the emotional and mental hurt (not to mention the physical hurt of course) that Joe Frazier must have experienced after getting clubbed to death by George Foreman. Does a man ever recover psychologically from that kind of being man-handled and humiliated? I still feel bad for Joe after all these years. Guess I shouldnt, but that was one helluva beating. Makes me feel really bad to this day.
Also, watching Ali beat Archie Moore with such direspect and disdain, that is hurtful in my opinion too.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
How old are you?
Mine was when Herol Graham got stopped by some domestic fighter, Grant. I could not talk to anyone, just very annoyed that a domestic fighter could beat my favourite fighter.

Audley Harrison v Danny Williams 1.

That was embarassing, I got my cousins to leave early from the restaurant for that one. They had their mouths open when they saw that effort.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
I would have to say Mayorga vs. De La Hoya.
That was a HUGE let down.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
Mayweather Vs PacMan.Cry with anger that a fight that the whole world wants to see wont happen because mayweather is a coward and is only interested in fighting hand picked opponents.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
Watching Alexis collapse under the Hawk's final barrage made me very sad. The Ruelas-Garcia fight will haunt me forever because I knew what I was watching. Watching The Camden Buzzsaw ruin Miracle Matthew bummed me out.

Mayorga to come in shape, not beg Oscar for more money, and not get taken out in the same round that Arturo Gatti did by Oscar.
I was expecting Mayorga to bring it and beat Oscar.
Hindsight is always 20/20 though isn't it.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
I didn't cry, but i was so upset when JCC lost to ODLH. I was like 13 years old, and i was so dissapointed.
-
Re: Fights that made you literally cry
I didn't go all Tammy Rev Jim baker but Bowe vs Holyfield had me bummed out big time. Was like witnessing my dog get hit by a truck while running across the road.
-
Re: Fights that made you literally cry
I literally got a little bit choked when Anthony Bonsante lost a fight once and he started crying about letting down his kids. He had his world's greatest dad hat on and everything.
I think it was the Andy Kolle ko.
-
Re: Fights that made you literally cry
Gatti vs Alfonso Gomez, after all the great fights and heart he showed his fans, Arturo didn't deserve to go out like that, then not too far afterwards his untimely passing
-
What no Mayorga-Cotto?
I've never cried because of a fight. I was mighty shocked when Tarver KO'd RJJ....I saw the punch land and I was just in disbelief.
When Wlad lost to Brewster it was kind of difficult to watch because I saw it coming. Not meaning I saw it was a bad match up or anything, but I saw Wlad knock him down, throw the kitchen sink at him and then he couldn't even hold his arms up to defend himself. I seriously thought that was his last fight. I didn't see the Sanders fight live, I imagine I'd have been in disbelief for that one too.
Cotto-Margarito was difficult to watch...Miguel was winning round after round and then slowly started to succumb to what we now figure were loaded shots....very difficult to see happen, more so after the handwrap controversy with Mosley though.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
Well never cried after a fight but watching Holyfield keep fight is pretty fucking sad.

I'm a lot older. I couldn't understand how folks thought Chavez could stay in that fight. He had a gazillion miles on him.

Just wondering. As you were watching the Margarito-Cotto fight did it ever seem to you like something unusual was happening? It never occurred to me. Of course I still guess Margarito was clean for that fight. I thought I was looking at a fight Arguello fought a dozen times, Marciano fought half a dozen times, Tito a couple of times, Carmen Basilio fought a bunch of times. Get outspeeded early but just keep coming, look awkward but just keep coming and hurting the faster guy enough that by the later rounds it is a race to the final bell. Can the fast guy hang on or the stalking puncher finish him.
It just felt like a fight I'd seen many times before.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
Golota vs Brewster and Lewis made me very sad.
RJJ loss against Glen Johnson was tough to watch
-
Re: Fights that made you literally cry
Watching Phillips dismantle Kostya with more determination and strength on the night was a hard one to take.

Yea i understand it now, but back then JCC was boxing for me. Once that fight happened i knew it was the end for JCC.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
Roy Jones being KO'd by Tarver shocked the hell out of me and watching Green knock him out live made me pretty sad. Also Kostya vs Hatton was a tough one to take, I couldnt see anyway of Hatton winning that fight so it was a shock to the system.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
I don't cry at fights - thats for homos.
But a massive Benn fan I was gutted when he lost to Eubank and devastated when he quit on his stool in his last fight v Collins. Was in the crowd that night and though i knew he had lost something after the McClellan fight to see him quit and booed was not the way to go out.
Had I been old enough seeing Ali lost to Holmes must have been pretty upsetting too :-\

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
Ali fighting on and losing to Spinks then continuing on against Holmes. He should've retired after the Thrilla In Manila.
-
Re: Fights that made you literally cry
Every Time Arthur Abraham losses.

On that note, it was sad to see the great Jose Luis Castillo, one of my favorite fighters, lose to fucking Alfonso Gomez.
Watching Emmanuel Augustus not even try against Kid Diamond was also sad.

I thought it was odd that all Margarito needed was 2 solid rounds to stop Cotto as Margarito isn't known for being a hellacious 1 punch power puncher. What really shocked me was when Mosley stopped Margarito with relative ease AFTER Toni was busted for loaded wraps and then I knew something was up vs Cotto as Miguel had just as much power as Shane and cracked Margarito a lot but I'm guessing the psychological advantage of having loaded wraps gave him the edge.
Just my opinion on the issue though.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
The Hatton/Pacquiao one was pretty bad for me. I had got so pumped up for it and was watching fresh off a hangover. That first round had my hands doing the shakes and then when Hatton was stopped in the second I admit that I did get a little cut up. I had to go to the corner of the room and the tears were there. I wiped them away and within minutes was on here telling my critics that yes I had got it wrong. I never really got over that KO.
-
Re: Fights that made you literally cry
And I must admit that I don't release tears easily. It's a once a year thing for a matter of seconds. I can be quite cold and heartless, but sometimes things do bubble up and that was one of the occasions.
-
Re: Fights that made you literally cry
Yeah Hatton's two loses were pretty taxing. They were the only fights I properly grieved over... I mean I literally did the whole cycle!

Fuck having to go through that TWCIE

Then of course you argued that it was all because of the Jews ;D

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
I was gutted when Hatton lost to Mayweather and i am still gutted at Mosley's performance against pacquiao, I never thought I would see the day when Mosley would get on his bike and not stand and trade.
I must admit I had a bit of a lump in my throat when they interviewed Katsidis after he lost to Marquez when he was talking about his brother who has just died and how much he missed him:eek:

The same thing happened to my friend too. He had a little bit of tears in his eyes when Hatton was stopped in 2. It's not because he cared for Hatton or was a fan of his, but because he had betted that Hatton would get ko in the late rounds and had lost some money with such an early end to the fight

Neither did Hatton who subsequently retired. :)

That’s it, you let it out big guy. Grown men can cry and it is not for Homo’s as Mark TKO said.

Re: Fights that made you literally cry
I became a little emotional watching Terry Norris stumbling around with Dana Rosenblatt. But I kinda knew Terry back when he was young and unbelievable. To see that made me choke up for a second. I was also irate that he was being permitted to still fight.

I love the style of Norris, I cried with joy when he battered the manipulative Ray Leonard. ;D

It bothers me how Norris' career was moved. After he beat Leonard, the world was his oyster. He should have been moved into some big fights. Instead, they put him through a never-ending series of crap fights, which actually took a toll on Terry.
It totally backfired. Terry ended up taking losses anyway. It woulda been better if he tried his hand with Jackson in a rematch or another big name at 160, rather than end up getting blasted out by the far less prestigious Simon Brown, and getting mired with all those pointless defenses at 154.
I'm sure they would do it differently if they had the chance to do it all over again. Talent-wise, he was one of the best ever. He deserved better from his management.
