Nah, Floyd Mayweather is finished. Brocktonblockbust said so in the other thread. ;D
[Edit] WTF? Just when I said this, he edited that thread title to include '(not)'. That sneaky devil ........

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
all i can say is GO ORTIZ!!!!
gayweather needs to be ko'ed brutally. and since he is scared to death of fighting manny, maybe this tough young gun in Ortiz, can do it. let's hope.

At the moment I think that this is just here say. I'll believe it when I see it. Theres no point in fighting ortiz or anyone else, he'll win easily. It's no different from pacroid fighting people he knows he'll comfortably beat.
I don't see the point in this fight at all other than to make a little bit of pocket change.
The ONLY rational behind it is some sort of tune up fight to see if he still has 'it'.
He's been out the ring for over 18 months I think, so at least he has that excuse for not being in a competetive fight.
ALSO this fight is only going to amplify accusations from pactards etc that he is 'scared' of pacroid.
Really I don't know why he'd go ahead with this fight. Might as well stay retired.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Nobody from the Y2k era can beat Floyd.. Maybe a prime Forrest but that's about it.
He deserves all the credit once he steps inside the ring with this true young lion in Victor Ortiz. I can't believe some of ya arent happy with this matchup.
Floyd is going to rip Ortiz a new asshole and here's why. Besides the fact that he's few notches above him, FLoyd fights souhtpaws aggressive. He totally switches up his style when up against these southpaw opponents and he's going to walk Ortiz down and punish him. He should fight Martinez after and retire as a true great. Beating martinez means just as much to the eyes of true boxing fans and he should retire after that.
If he beats Ortiz and MArtinez, he'd be a top 20 ATG for me..
-
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
if this fight isn't going to be a tune-up for a possible pacquiao or martinez fight then i'm not interested. i've got a feeling after he beats ortiz he'll just go away for another long vacation.

I agree, that is what's going to happen and because I already know the outcome is why I can't look forward to it.

Maybe this is just floyd's plan. Fight once every couple of years just to keep his name in the £4£ list.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
At least Floyd is getting back in the ring. People were saying Ortiz would be a good fight for Manny Pac aside from Floyd, so this should be ok for Floyd to fight him, i'am hopping that it is only a warm up for Pac man tho as Ortiz is also a southpaw.
-
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Mayweather slipping in the backdoor here to grab yet another meaningless trinket from a gutsy guy who prior to exposing a frozen Berto was thought to then have little chance, no chin and even less desire for the ring. As long as he fights, good, but his timing and selection need perspective. I think he knocks Ortiz out when he wants, how he wants and if he wants. Ortiz has earned a big fight he did himself proud and proved the naysayers wrong.. Good luck. He'll need it.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
I think it's a good fight, Ortiz deserves the big payday. I think after this fight Floyd goes on another long vacation. I'm not a PBF hater by no means but i do hope Ortiz KO's him, i just happen to like Ortiz better than i like Floyd.

Bullshit. You sound like your making advance excuse.
You know this is a dangerous fight for Floyd knowing that Ortiz is a southpaw and can punch.

If you think that that post is me making excuses for floyd you are even dumber than first thought or you see things in the most distorted, twisted light imaginable.
What part of 'there is no point in this fight he should stay retired' don't you get?
This fight is not a dangerous one for floyd at all. You're delusional if you think it is.
If this fight goes ahead I don't give ortiz a snowball in hell's chance.
-
Pac beat marquez 2 times already..why didnt he fight ortiz? Bob arum is steering him away from young hungry fighters. Look on google the amount of corruption bob arum has been done for, they know and he knows floyd will pick him apart. Real boxing fans know the deal. Top rank fighter james toney done for steroids, margacheato, the list goes on.

Ortiz will get beat down unless Floyd's punch resistance has diminished at all. Is he requiring OSD of Ortiz after Berto's accusations?
I've seen that too. I believe thought that he picked Ortiz because he plans on facing Pacquiao in the future and he wanted to face a southpaw as a tune-up.
There just is no reason to fight Martinez if Pacquiao is out there and a less risky fight. And if we know nothing about Floyd, one thing we do know, is that he fights for $, not for legacy.
-
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Not long after the Ortiz vs Berto fight, Berto accuses Ortiz of using PEDs. It is interesting how Mayweather acts on this accusation. Will he require Ortiz to undergo OSDT? If not, then all of Mayweather's claim of wanting to clean boxing of PEDs is just an excuse to avoid Pacquiao.
-
Ortiz will conform to all floyds drug tests like mosley. He has nothing to hide.
-
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Already hate this fight. Ortiz deserves a payday, but he also deserves a chance to make a few defenses of his title, keep that hunger going, improve his skills and thrill fans with some good fights while coming into his own.
But no, as soon as he gets a belt, Here comes mayweather out from behind the retirement, crap talking webcam to dance away with this kids title and then keep them on hiatus while we listen to round 3 or 4 of "take the tests/ no, you don't make the rules"...
Screw that... boxing needs more fighters/ competitors like Ortiz and less self businessmen like mayweather.
- A former Mayweather fan.

IF he doesn't want to look like a complete phoney, he should demand blood testing on Ortiz and Im sure he knows this better than all of us. He'll demand it and Ortiz will oblige. I dont think it will be an issue at all.
I agree. ORtiz' southpaw style will prepare him well for Pacman. I dont see who else can give him a good look as a southpaw. Ortiz bout is more than respectable. And based on Ortiz' current form, i dont see him as a tuneup at all..
Floyd loves money but i think he DOES care alot about his legacy. To him, two things that's more important than money are his well-being and his perfect record. At this point of his career, he knows that he can make good money fighting pretty much anybody so he's not all that concerened about fighting pacman. As long as he can make good money and secure his shiny record, he's fine...

Well Ortiz should at least put up a better show than the last two. I'm actually slightly compelled by this match up.
-
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
I find it interesting how everybody gets a heart attack whenever we hear of Floyd facing someone that is not Manny. But have Manny pick fights such as Clottey, Margarito, Mosley, JMM in a weight he has shown to NOT be effective, etc. who are no threats what so ever, and nobody says a thing.

Real talk... There is clearly a double standard.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
A-fuc-ingmazing. Five minutes ago ortiz quit against a b fighter at best with no boxing skills in maidana and the whole world was calling him shit and saying he should quit. Next the dude barely survives and gets a draw against peterson, he beats berto and now he can beat floyd ???!!!!! Wow hbo lost pac and they are desperate. If peterson could outbox ortiz floyd sure as shit will. Ortiz will loose damn near every round, and outside of floyd fighting pac or martinez no one should really care.

I agree, Marquez was too small & Mosley effectively fought to survive after the 7th round. I think this is a dangerous fight for Mayweather. He's often got caught by southpaws early, he'll be rusty & Ortiz is if nothing else a strong starter & will likely come into the ring at over 160lbs. I can certainly see an upset.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
I don't really know what to expect out of this one except an overpriced fight.
Ortiz really did put up a (1) stinker against Peterson, who I think is not really that great of a fighter. (2) quit against Maidana. (3) has not had many fights at all on this level
Ortiz has a lot of trouble getting leverage on his punches at range. He likes to throw some tight punches on the inside, but he has almost zero boxing ability on the outside. I can't remember the last boxer I saw get this far without actually knowing how to box and win rounds. If Berto hadn't been rocked so early in that fight, I think he would have had the mental capacity to put Ortiz away. And, somehow, I do not think that Mayweather would be so willing to fight Berto if he had won.
Call me crazy, but I think Berto has a better chance than Ortiz in a fight with Mayweather. But Mayweather has no chance at getting me to be a sucker for one of his so called "fights." Guy is not worth a dime to watch, but through statistics he still keeps all the boxing world at bay. Even at 1 fight every 18 months...
I mean it's just a long enough amount of time to forget about what an awful stinker he put on with his last opponent.
Ortiz fights nothing like Pacquiao, so I would go ahead and say this is not a tuneup for a Pacquiao fight. Don't everyone get your hopes up like that. Ostrich-trunks will let you down at every bend.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Been a long time since I've posted here . . . .
I think this is the best non-Manny fight that Floyd could make at WW. Obviously Martinez would be a better fight and Kahn or Bradley might be too. But this is not bad -- much better than the rumored fight against Spadafora and better than any of Pac's fights since the fight against Cotto (including this joke against a shot JMM that had to work his ass off and get tagged repeatedly against Katsidis at 135).

Couldn't agree with this more and that's why I think...
1) this fight is a warm up for something bigger
2) completely pointless
3) a way of keeping his name in the pound for pound list a bit longer
4) an easy way to earn a bit of pocket change
I wonder if mayweather will insist on random blood testing. I for one hope so.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Mayweather chose the best available opponent out there at 147 or below and that he hasn't already fought. Bradley and Khan are good fights but not all that much better than Ortiz. At the same time, this isn't a challenging fight for Mayweather because if Lamont Peterson outboxed Victor Ortiz (or boxed with him at a minimum), Mayweather will box circles around him. Mayweather is getting Ortiz at the perfect time after Ortiz is riding high on his win over Berto, but we can't just overlook the fact that he succumbed mentally to Maidana and was outboxed by Peterson. Hopefully, the pay day is worth it for Ortiz because this fight has the potential of ruining him. I see a dejected Ortiz quitting once again on his stool.
My opinion on Manny v. Marquez is that every fighter has their kryptonite and that Manny's kryptonite is Marquez. I believe it will be a good fight that is competitive for the first five rounds. I don't believe the weight will be an issue (I know it's been discussed ad nauseum) because Marquez will come in at 143 and Manny will come in at 147. Marquez was ineffective at 147 against the best fighter on the planet and that doesn't make him ineffective at that weight against other fighters especially against one that he has had a lot of success against in previous fights. Manny will be favored because of his recent form, but the fight is relatively close.
Bottom line: the opponents of Pacquiao and Mayweather won't be ideal until they either fight each other or go for glory and step up in weight to face Martinez.

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Mayweather watches his wallet and his 0. This fight isn't a threat to his 0 and it will add padding to his wallet. It's perfect for him. He should go in as as a heavy, heavy favorite.
-
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Mayweather v. Ortiz match opened up with odds of 1/10 on Mayweather and 11/2 Ortiz.
-
I can't believe this is true, I hope it's true, but I dont think it will be. Two reasons why:
1) I didn't think Mayweather would ever fight again
2) Ortiz is actuallly quite good and in the form of his life, coming off of a war that impressed many people

:vd: .....I want Victor to win, but I'll only watch if it's on regular HBO. I'm not buying any Mayweather Jr. or Pacquiao PPV's unless they fight. I'm putting my financial foot down.
Ortiz doesn't have a jab...he better bring his heart and his A game and better hope Floyd has an off day because even then Floyd has good D, he's quick as hell and he'll fight dirty.

PPV isn't even an issue in today's time, bro. Just stream that shit and there are alot of quality ones out there. I only buy the a fight when my favorite fighter is involved or if I know certain matchups are going to be explosive based on styles..

Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
This a tune up fight for Pac plain and simple. It is amazing how many people fall for all of the spectacle and lies that is in the heart of boxing and PROMOTION. Floyd vs. Pac will happen. Why? Because when all is said and done...boxing like all professional sports is about money/revenue. And that fight will generate the most money. That is why i laugh when people only accuse Mayweather of only caring about money. Really? Pac would fight for free if he could?! Leaches like Arum and Golden Boy want as much profit as they can get. All this hoopla about drug testing, bad blood between promoters, retirement, etc...is all build up people! Having said all of that...Floyd has not fought in a long while. He will need a tune up to get ready for the Pac fight. Is Oritz a major threat? No. But he is a young, live body who is a southpaw. No need to analyze or blow this thing up for anything more than it is.
-
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
Tune up for Pac. He isn't facing Pac unless we can see clear evidence of Pac slipping. If that occurs, Floyd will be right there to sign for the fight. Otherwise, he won't.
-
Re: Mayweather announces ring return against Ortiz on Sept. 17
It's a tune-up for Manny. Ortiz has zero, and I mean zero shot to win this fight.
But it's a tune-up so that's fine.
The idea that beating as limited a guy as Victo Ortiz means something is pretty funny.

He's a top contender, I'm amazed that you have a problem with this considering how much emphasis you place on the old guys facing top contenders.

The idea Victor Ortiz is a top contender is one of the saddest concepts I've seen in a while ;)
But you make a fair point!

This. Well its a mismatch fight Ortiz on good win against Berto? Well he should get a payday i hope i dont see him likes panchito bojado in the end.
