JOE CALZAGHE retired p4p no1 in world will it ever happen again??
Joe fought his way to p4p no 1 in the world then retired on the top but will anybody els ever achieve this accomplishment. I think mayweather has got the minerals to do this but it remains to be seen weather he does or not . Most o the top fighters want to keep on going to get more money like Roy jones and b Hopkins .

Re: JOE CALZAGHE retired p4p no1 in world will it ever happen again??
For jokes like this to work they need to be subtle.
Not even the most moronic Calzaghe haters will respond to this.
(ha ha ha)
-
Fenster its an official fact that he was no1 p4p in the world when he retired!!! Maybe because he bummed all of Hopkins points of him for the top ratings but he did reach the top and unified all the belts at super middle!!
-
Re: JOE CALZAGHE retired p4p no1 in world will it ever happen again??
IT will happen many more times..
-
Re: JOE CALZAGHE retired p4p no1 in world will it ever happen again??
See Fensters post.. And not that it's worth responding to your thread but technically Mayweather has retired a couple of times already:lickish:. Going by the fact that Pacquiao and Mayweather may never fight and are both considered by some to the have the top spot its quite likely that either one of them will still be there when they hang em up for good. Was Sugar Ray Leonard the no.1 after he fought Hagler? He arguably did the same thing as well, although he had a couple of terrible comebacks.

Re: JOE CALZAGHE retired p4p no1 in world will it ever happen again??
Calzaghe never had a sniff off #1, maybe if we're talking about pulling out of fights!
-
Galaxy at the time calzaghe retired he had the top rating in boxing and nobody can take that away from him. It just seames to be a few ppl can accept this or their just gutter that calzaghe never ever got beaten.

Bro he was never #1! Mayweather was then he retired & Pacquiao took over. Please explain where Calzaghe fits in?
-
Don't think so galaxy rock , u just on the mayweather pacman bandwagon!! After calzaghe unified all the super middle belts beating mikel Kessler and then going on to beat Hopkins he became the p4p king and manny was second best at the time.

Calzaghe's best fights up to that point were Lacy & Kessler, adding in way past their best Hopkins & Jones still doesn't come close to over taking Floyd or Manny. No bandwagon here cuz, just simple logistics!
-
Right so u agree with me that he was p4p no 1!!! U on the band wagon mate, Hopkins was in his prime mate , calzaghe was the one out of his prime when they both fought but still proved how good he was , mayweather will try to beat calzaghed record in my opinion but he needs to fight more often before he gets to old.

Re: JOE CALZAGHE retired p4p no1 in world will it ever happen again??
joe calzaghe beat hopkins by split decision, 37 vs 42 years old, a split decision with those ages in that fight only increases hopkins legacy. A very similar version of what happened with old de la hoya vs mayweather, the same case of old lennox vs vitali. My opinion is that a respectable fight should be vs a boxer from 24 to 32 years old, besides i think that if a really ancient boxer from lets say 38 years old beats a boxer from 24 to 32 it almost ever says a lot and there should be no rematch. In the case calzaghe hopkins 37 to 42 is a huge difference, more than it it had been 32 to 37 i think. No discrimination to hopkins being an age freak but he now trains way harder

Re: JOE CALZAGHE retired p4p no1 in world will it ever happen again??
Joe Calzaghe was my P4P number 1 and is quite clearly the greatest fighter in the history of the universe. Mayweather? Ali? None of those fuckers could throw a hundred punches a round and then snort a line of coke in the corner.

:vd: its always funny when a kid gives his opinion , but hey we all have our own idea's.
As for will it happen again , the answer is yes , if your promoter has a large roll of cotton wool , and you fight guys in their forties , or club fighters.

Dont get me wrong, Calzaghe was a top fighter and accomplished a lot but not going to America earlier and fighting Jones and Hopkins sooner he let himself down. Especially after what he said in his book about Jones being old and washed up. He pulled out of fights with regularity and we were sold polished turds as worthy title challengers. Fair enough he took the Bhop and RJJ fights for his retirement fund and i wouldn't begrudge any fighter lining their pockets but you have to take the criticism that will go with that in regards to making excuses for the fights not happening years earlier.
I think JC accomplished a lot but his career could have been so much more. A couple of contentious decisions with no rematches to think about too. It doesn't matter really because in 50 years time all people will see is the undefeated record and wins against Bhop and RJJ and consider him one of the greatest of all time. The Kessler win for me was a great performance though and Lacy too. :)
