Pacquiao vs. Marquez III - Saturday fight/chat thread
Saturday on HBO PPV, which means, i'll be hunting a stream since DIRECTV, is charging $64.95 to watch this mo-fo in HD, no way Jose.
:bag:
November 12
At Las Vegas (HBO PPV): Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez, third fight, 12 rounds, for Pacquiao's WBO welterweight title; Timothy Bradley Jr. vs. Joel Casamayor, 12 rounds, for Bradley's WBO junior welterweight title; Mike Alvarado vs. Breidis Prescott, 10 rounds, junior welterweights; Luis Cruz vs. Juan Carlos Burgos, 12 rounds, junior lightweights; Dennis Laurente vs. Ayi Bruce, 8 rounds, welterweights.
I'm a fan of both Pugs, but Pac figures to win the trilogy fairly easy, the only thing i'm not sure about is whether or not he stops JMM. My gut feeling is Juan the warrior takes a beating, but the fight goes the distance, unless he gets stopped by cuts.
As for Bradley vs Casamayor, Tim should take care of business, by either a clearcut UD or Casamayor just dying of old age in the championship rounds.
What do you kats think?

Re: Pacquiao vs. Marquez III - Saturday fight/chat thread
Looks like a stellar card!
I'll be cheering for Marquez
Bradley should clean up
Interested to see Alvarado, this is a big stage for him to shine
Cruz is in tough, but he's the goods

Re: Pacquiao vs. Marquez III - Saturday fight/chat thread
I would love to see Bradley in against a not-decrepit Casamayor. I'd wager Casa would take him apart.
Bradley by TKO now though.

Casa is now 40, so he's definitely past his best. But still crafty as hell & can bang a bit
I wouldn't be surprised to see Bradley on the Canvas at some point, but he get back up to win a wide decision

Casamayor has to be totally shot by now, I believe Bradley schools him, but probably doesn't knock him out.

Yeah I think Casamayor is done, I feel if Bradley can set a brisk pace he may be in a position to stop the Cuban in the late rounds

Casa is going to quit on his stool between rounds 8-10. I'm calling it now .

Seeing that it's $64.95, the least Top Rank could do is put Bradley in with someone dangerous, instead of a faded name fighter from a lower weight class.
I could see Pacquiao-Marquez III being like Pacquiao-Morales III, where an older, slower fighter finds himself outgunned, but chooses to go toe-to-toe instead of being cautious, resulting in an entertaining (but short) fight.
I could also see more of a boxing match, where Marquez has his moments, but can't consistently land sharp counter punches as much as he did in the first 2 fights. In this type of fight, Pacquiao bangs out a clear UD or gets a late stoppage.
In their 2nd fight, I thought Marquez fought as well as he can possibly fight. Since then, Marquez has declined (although he's still a great fighter) while Pacquiao has improved. I don't see what Marquez could possibly do better now than what he did in their previous bouts, but there are new things that Pacquiao can do to Marquez.

Re: Pacquiao vs. Marquez III - Saturday fight/chat thread
I predict an 11th round ref stoppage.
Pac by TKO.

Or the corner might stop it, Manny has improved since 2008 JMM has not. Marquez however, has never been stopped, so we shall see.

I will be 100% rooting for Marquez. I expect him to be looking old and hit-able.

I agree with this scenario, but Marquez figures to see the final bell, unless he gets busted up and the fight gets stopped by the ref on cuts.

Re: Pacquiao vs. Marquez III - Saturday fight/chat thread
I miss fights where you would actually not have an idea who could win :-\. Does Bob Arum and Pac fans really think this fight will be competitive?
My prediction...like SweatPea, I can see something similar as to what we saw with Pacquiao vs Morales III :(.

I'm no "Flomo" nor "Pactard," but I'll say this, I believe JMM has more of a shot in this fight than he did against Pretty Boy because JMM understands how to fight Pacquiao. While I favor Pacquiao, I see Marquez winning a few rounds before this fight finishes. I also see this as a more entertaining fight than the fight with Pretty Boy. Lastly, I stand by my theory that Marquez does better against Pacquiao than Ortiz did against Mayweather.

One sided beat down, Pac to win at least 10 rounds

Something along those lines, it's hard to imagine Marquez even winning 1 round, Pac is better then ever, JMM is not.

Plus he has all odds against him too as he goes up in weight drastically :-\. The only ones who think this fight will be "dangerous" are Pac fans I guess. Just to make it seem as if he accomplished a lot.

If you aren't favoring Pacquiao you are delusional, but to say Marquez has no shot is ridiculous. How can he have no shot if he basically fought to stalemate with Pacquiao twice?
Pacquiao doesn't weigh in at 165 when he fights at 147 like Victor Oritz. They'll be within 5 pounds of eachother at fight time. So, Marquez isn't at a huge weight disadvantage. Pacquiao may be better at 147 than Marquez, but that's yet to be seen. Indeedn, Marquez has had only one fight at 144 it was against the best in boxing, Floyd Mayweather, which isn't dispositive of very much.
The main thing that I see as indicating an advantage of Pacquiao is that Marquez hasn't looked spectacular in his last few fights. He shouldn't be having a war with Kastidis if he plans on realistically competing against Pacquiao. It's the stark differences in their recent performances that make Pacquiao a 8-1 favorite. However, Marquez is a warrior and he knows Pacquiao's style, which in itself is enough to make it an interesting fight for a while. I'll be impressed if Pacquiao blows him out of the water. I've repeated myself a few times, but I still say with confidence that Marquez will do better against Manny this time than Ortiz did against Floyd. For the record, how many rounds did people have Ortiz winning in that fight?
-
I've got to disagree. Until the head butt farce, Ortiz was doing ok. Not looking likely to win, but doing ok.
I expect in this fight Pac to be stronger and quicker which are the royal flush of boxing attributes to be better than your opponent on.
At a lower weight, in a different year, maybe he would cause him problems, but other than the late rounds when Pac starts cramping up in his legs, I can see this being similar to the Floyd fight.
It means nothing, but Marquez vs Katsidis, Katsidis then shows his age getting beat by Burns. Burns vs Pac would probably be less predictable. .

That fight was more than 7 years ago when both were in the mid 130s. Now JMM has to gain all this weight to fight him in a weight where he looked like crap vs Floyd. Decreased speed and punching power in that weight won’t be nice to JMM.

Pac has looked just fine at 147, JMM has not.

Sure, JMM may perform fine but I just can’t see him winning, hope I am wrong.

That's fair. I thought he was doing OK too. I'm not sure he won a round, but I thought he was doing OK.

He last fought Maquez three years ago (2008) and he's fought him twice total giving him ample chance to learn Pacquiao's style. Both fights were close either way you came out. I like counter punchers in rematches because usually once they have the timing of their opponent's punching down, they can time their opponent to win - see Martinez v. Williams II. Again, Pacquiao is favored for a reason.
When has JMM not looked good at 147 other than against arguably the best boxer in boxing in Floyd? It's like saying Narvaez can't fight at bantamweight because he was dominated by Donaire or if Adamek only fought Vitali and saying he can't fight at heavyweight. I understand Pacquiao is also a great, but Marquez has faced him already, and the fights were close.

I don't mind attending the funeral, i'm just not going to pay $64.95 to see it. ;)
Who knows, Marquez may win a round or 2 and make it competitive, then afterwards, he can bitch about how he won all 3 fights.

For a fight this big, I think I'll be staying up really late for the first time in ages. Really hope JMM can actually get it done, because I still think he took their last meeting. Granted he hasn't had the same path as the Pacman since then, but I'm expecting something entertaining once more.

Casamayor one pound over the limit, he has an hour to lose the weight.

Yes, and I bet they both don't gain much weight at all for the fight. I bet they walk in and at around the same weight for the fight.

I watched Pacquiao vs. Marquez II again and it really makes me wonder how part three won't be a good fight.

The Marquez we saw against Mayweather might be influencing some fans predictions about how he'll do against Pacquiao. Mayweather was much bigger then JMM and twice as skilled, and while Manny at this point in his career has a much better skill set, he and JMM are about the same size.
Although Pac and JMM are about the same size physically, which might lead you to believe that we might see something akin to Pacquiao vs. Marquez II, it ain't likely to happen. Pac will have a big advantage in speed, power and improved boxing ability, that I can't see Marquez being able to overcome.
I don't believe the 3rd fight between these two warriors will be anything like the first 2, since Pac vs JMM II, in 2008, Pacquiao has blitzed through, Diaz, De La Hoya, Hatton, Cotto, Clottey, Margarito, and Mosley, hardly losing a round. So why is JMM going to be any different then the other 7? I hate to say a great fighter like JMM has no chance against Pacquiao, but he really doesn't.
-
Re: Pacquiao vs. Marquez III - Saturday fight/chat thread
Ya agreed, Pac is a much different fighter this time around. He's blazed through the boxing world and divisions these last few years, going to battle in such a dominating way he reminds me of something, almost primal...like say, Genghis Khan. I mean, he even looks like some kinda Mongol War Lord. lol
Cept after defeating you, instead of raping and pillaging, he offers to buy your family new shoes and put a roof over their house...then sings later that night with a shit eating grin on Jimmy Kimmel.
