Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
I hope whoever wrote that article isn't getting paid.
He's right though, Margarito did catch Cotto with some beautiful 'shuts' in the 9th round.
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
I think Cotto was slowing and Margarito was still coming on. The main difference though was that Cotto learned from the last fight and Margarito's face doesn't hold up anymore. I yearn for the return of 15 round fights, 12 rounds isn't enough to separate the men from the boys. It will never happen though.
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
It was a karma stoppage. The eye.
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Sometimes "LOL" just doesn't say it.
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
yea cause getting man handled and pushed into the ropes is a sure fire sign of the tide turning, Margarito landed a couple punches with no power and Cotto answered back, still winning the 9th round, that being said chime in Outspoken who obviously is gonna come in with his usual rant
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Margarito fans should just be thankful that the fight was stopped the way it did. This prevented Antonio from getting blind.
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Margarito was coming on more but his punches didn't seem effective, lacked power and he would have been blind if the fight wasn't stopped. I didn't want it to be stopped just to see what happens but it was good for margaritos health.
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Smoger is a very respected ref. His opinion is well valued. It's to bad he didn't get to make the final decision. Cuz I too saw the fight starting to change. Cotto was already starting to back up in that moronic fashion of his. Had the fight gone on I think he would of just hung on and made it to the bell to take a points victory. But I doubt he cries like a bitch in celebration afterwards.

Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Update..
By Dan Ambrose:
After seeing the Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito fight last night for the second time, I’m now even more convinced that Cotto was saved by the referee stepping in and halting the fight after the 9th round last week to prevent Cotto from being knocked out for a second time against the tough Mexican warrior Margarito. Cotto doesn’t deserve to move on and fight Manny Pacquiao again or face Floyd Mayweather Jr. for that matter. Cotto deserves Margarito one more time.
The fight pretty much proved that Margarito beat Cotto fair and square in their first fight in 2008, because Margarito was wearing Cotto down much in the same way this time. At the end of the 9th, Cotto was looking weaker, tired and was starting to take bad punishment. Had the referee not halted the fight at that point, Margarito would have had three long rounds to work Cotto over, bust his face up, and hurt him with uppercuts like last time.
I’m convinced we would have seen Cotto down on his knees in a submissive position ready to surrender to Margarito’s force of will. I saw it happening it really makes me angry how the doctor halted a fight where Margarito could still see out of his swollen right eye. The fight needed to have continued, but the stoppage clearly favored Cotto. He didn’t have to take Margarito’s punishment when he no longer had the legs to run anymore.
I think there really needs to be a third fight between Cotto and Margarito, but this time in a neutral venue with a different doctor working the fight. It can’t be in Cotto’s neck of the woods on the East coast because we could have Cotto winning by another controversial stoppage. It needs to be Vegas or ideally Mexico. I’d prefer Mexico since we just had the fight in Cotto’s territory.
It’s only fair that the fight be held in Margarito’s home country. Right now each fighter has won one fight a piece, and Margarito’s win was a lot more impressive than Cotto’s. To find out who the better fighter is, they need one more fight but we can’t have a doctor hastily jumping in and putting a stop to it at the first sign of trouble for Cotto.

Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
I'm just going to assume that Dan Ambrose is functionally retarded. Judging by his writing ability and the cohesion of his arguments it seems like a logical conclusion.
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
If you spend the whole fight getting puched in the face you have only yourself to blame for the loss.
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Cotto was in total control and would have seen the fight to points easily.
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
I say we (Mexican fighter fans) just let this one go and give our support to a better, classier fighter.
One that doenst wear mullets or cornrows!!

Thank you. So why exactly is Margarito-Cotto 1 debated again?

I like a ref who lets a fighter fight as much as the next guy, but this is the same idiot who let let Gatti get battered by Gomez; who would have let it continue until the coroner carted his body out in a ba. If Hazzard hadn't intervened in that massacre who knows how long Smoger would have stood by with his thumb up his ass!
Granted I think Margarito should have been left to continue, but using Smoger's decision making as the basis of your argument is laughable. Although laughable is the bearing of the majority of your posts.

No it was not. Again you show how pathetic your boxing knowledge is. Smoger didn't call Gatti-Gomez. It was Randy Neuman. Stupid muthafukka. Go back to being the cool guy who buys beer and gets drunk with a bunch of 15 year old boys. To them ther's no one cooler than you. '

Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
As long as they cut the price on the pay per view, I'm ok with Cotto-Margarito III...and IV...and V...and VI. I could watch Cotto kick Margarito's ass every 3 months for the rest of my life.

No, you couldn't. Margarito will be blind after the 3rd fight and will not be allowed to fight again.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda..... Kind of sad seeing you all bitter like that, VD. Tell you what. Why don't you and Outspoken take turns licking Margafucko's balls..... er..... I mean.... wounds.
;)

Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
if by backing up you mean pushing Margarito fucking forward and manhandling him onto the ropes, then yea I saw Cotto starting to do that as well in the 8th and 9th :-X;D

VD is correct. I wholeheartedly agree with him in this thread.

The only debate I know of from their first fight is that now it's even more probable that Margafucko had been using his plaster wraps BEFORE the Mosley fight.

you wanna play the card that Cotto "quit", you wanna play it as if he cried like a bitch afterwards, well Mexico's greatest fighter QUIT on his stool refusing to come out cause of a cut against a young DLH, and he CRIED LIKE A BITCH when he lost to fucking Grover, not even gonna bother putting the name down cause you know who it is, and you're probably gonna cry and say, gee whiz his cut needed like 5000 stitches and he lost a gallon of blood, and then say he cried cause his career was over and he lost to a bum, cause it's what you do, you complain bitch and moan, criticize every other fighter yet you put up a million excuses or sugar coat everything when your own boy gets his ass whooped or avoids fighting anyone of worth, you SCREAMED TO THE HEAVENS that Montiel was gonna fuck up Donaire (I picked Montiel to win so no hate from here) yet your first post about the fight afterwards? "ohhh Montiel is shot to shit and too small", get the fuck out of here with that shit dude it's your M.O., all that would have happened had the fight gone any longer is that Margarito would have been blind in his eye, bitching and moaning that Cotto didn't stand right in front of him with his hands tied behind his back and allowed Margarito to wail on him for the first half of the fight, MARGARITO GOT HIS ASS WHOOPED, the tide wasn't turning, Cotto had plenty of stamina left, his legs looked strong as ever and his punches still had plenty of power and sting behind him, Margarito although he was touching him up a bit but it only happened BECAUSE COTTO BY THIS POINT ALREADY DECIDED TO STAND AND TRADE WITH HIM SINCE TONY HAD ZERO POWER, you're like a two yr old kid having a little tantrum cause you had your favorite toy taken away, and it's probably to the same extent seeing how your favorite toy is probably Tony's dick

Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
ONe is not supposed to get cut bad and all swollen by fists. MArgarito did let it to allow, his plain fault if he couldn't taste the 12 full rounds and see if he could have turned it around.

Yes, Margarito was coming on strong late. The 8th and 9th were two of his best rounds; after all, one of the judges gave him one of those rounds.

don't see how he was coming strong when his punches weren't having any effect, he was throwing more but he wasn't landing anything solid or effective, and he did so in spurts, the harder cleaner punches were still landed by Cotto, Miguel was in NO DANGER

Sorry; I guess the irony wasn't apparent. Yes, for all the talk about how strong Margarito was coming on, he lost the 8th on all cards, and he lost the 9th on two of the three cards. If the fight had gone another two rounds (or another five), the only change would be that Cotto's lead on the cards would be even bigger. Well, and he might have lost the eye.

Other than Margarito couldn't see out of one eye and was losing every round. And had landed about 100 fewer punches.

Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Compubox doesnt mean shit. It doesnt matter if cotto was winning rounds because he was getting hit more often as fatigue set in. he may have been scoring more but the damaging punches were landed by margarito towards the end..
those championship rounds were going to be the deal breaker but cotto lucked out..

Margarito had no shot in that fight. He knew exactly what Cotto's game plan was going to be, and he was completely unable to stop it. If the fight had continued, he just would have lost by more points and looked even worse afterward. But, as I said at the time...

When one is fatigued , every littlre punches can hurt you so whether or not margo had as much muster on his shots as he did in 08 is not that important.
cotto was definitely getting tired and margos shots were taking a toll. He was slowing down towards the end while backing up more in a straight line instead of of angles.
Those championship rounds were going to be crucial, it was the deciding factor due to cottos fatigue combined with margos style but the doctor stopped it prematurely.
Cotto was fortunate that the system and karma were on his side.
God is fair.. Karma KO margarito
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Margarito was the luckier of the two. He emerged with his eyesight, and with a handy excuse for his loss.
-
Re: Steve Smoger felt Margarito was turning the tide when the doctor robbed Margarito
Cotto was getting tired..... Margafucko was coming on..... "karma" was what TKO'ed Margafucko..... blah, blah, blah. All this frigging bitterness (ha-ha-ha).
;D
It was a TOTALLY different fight from the first one. Cotto's face was marked up, but SO WHAT? It wasn't busted up like it was in their first fight, when Margafucko (by now obviously) used the plaster wraps to break up Cotto's face and almost end his career. Cotto was tired? He was STILL moving, STILL boxing, STILL choosing when to engage Margafucko. In the middle rounds he began to engage Margafucko with toe-to-toe exchanges, ripping the scumbag with hooks to the face. HE was calling the shots, not the douche bag. The doctor, as he CLEARLY said after the fight, could've stopped the fight a few rounds earlier. He let it go on, but nothing was changing. Only that Cotto was hammering Margafucko some more, and the eye was getting worse. The only thing the doctor did wrong in MY eyes was to NOT let the fight go on. I would've liked to have seen MORE damage to the asshole's face, and maybe a KTFO.
Margafucko, along with his legions of testicle-lickers, were reduced to crying, bitching and whining about how the low-life was coming on..... how he woulda, coulda, shoulda. Now it's over, and Cotto is once again the toast of boxing. What is Margafucko? Some damaged old has been..... who got what he deserved, and can now crawl back to whatever hole he crawled out from under. History will not treat him very well. He'll always be remembered as a cheater, who once he got found out, became nothing more than a glorified club fighter.
But for those of you who continue being bitter, maybe you can go visit Margafucko and take turns letting him take out his frustrations on you in an angry, sexual way.
 :-X
