Team Ward dare Joe Calzaghe to come out of retirement
http://www.boxingscene.com/team-ward-joe-calzaghe-unretire-finalize-fight--56893
I doubt JC would do it though, but this would be a big money fight and I'd imagine Calzaghe could get a lot for fighting Ward. I don't see it happening though, JC would lose his 0.
-
Jc wont take the risk. I am sure alot of jc fans will be on soon to defend his avoidance of fights that should have been but it never happened.
Jc, his dad and his camp are happy to stay indefeated and live in the bubble of invincibility..cleverly will be joining him soon as i heard he will be fighting dawson or hopkins in 2018!
Yes calzaghe is a great boxer but him coming out of retirement (whether he wins or not) will get the ultimate stamp of approval.
-
Fight ward in his hometown and then retire..jc has amazing stamina and great boxing skills, after old boy hopkins retired him he needs to redeem himself once and for all.
Frank warren got tired of all the fake injuries he used to have..no more excuses.

I can see why Ward, needs Calzaghe because Ward can't draw FLY'S.;)
-
Lol
I knew you would pop up quickly!
Its true, ward doesnt draw the crowds but he gets the job done.

Hopkins wasnt Calzaghe last fight:rolleyes: Hopkins went on to beat Pavlik and Pascal. Jones was Calzaghes last fight, just a fuck around really, although Jones did go on to beat Lacy and Sheika which means fuck all.
Calzaghe has been retired for years! The is an interview with Bunce on youtube from this year where Calzaghe says he had a scan on his left hand in 2007 and then another in 2008 and the doctor noticed it had deteriorated and if he didnt give up soon his hand would be ruined.
I dont thonk Calzaghe would be interested unless it was mega money but is Ward enough of a draw for anyone to be willing to offer good money? We know Calzaghe can sell tickets, he got over 50,000 fans in for the Kessler fight. Ward cant sell out in his own home town so Joe would be the draw but they are just talking out there asses. They think beating a weight drained fighter that Pascal beat makes them something special.
There is absolutely no way that Calzaghe would consider trying to make super middle now, it would have to be at light heavy but then there would be no titles at steak, so Ward would need to move up andtheres no guarantee hed beat anyone at that weight. just trying to get some publicity off Joes name;D

Re: Team Ward dare Joe Calzaghe to come out of retirement
I haven't spent alot of time thinking about who would win the fight.
I do know Ward has beaten as many top 10 ring ranked fighters at 168 that Calzaghe did over a decade. Ward did it in 2 yrs and 10 months. And Ward also beat the top fighter at 175. All in 2 yrs 10 months.
Calzaghe fought behind undeserving mandatories for too long. He could have beaten everyone, but he faced easier foes for too many years.

I spent no time at all, Calzaghe you forgot Dawson came down in weight, were Joe moved up in weight.;)

We all cant ignore the comment made about wards opposition compared to jc in a shorter timespan.
Lets all agree that jc has got great qualities like stamina, great boxer and very fast. He is undefeated.
but hatton went up in weight to fight a p4p floyd and p4p pac on there terms. He has two losses but more balls than the welsh dragon (lol) will ever have!

when it takes a fighter a decade to fight the same number of ring ranked fighters as a guy who does it in 34 months, then a fighter is wasting his career. As Joe C spent a great %of time doing so. And when Joe C moved up. he moved up to fight 2 guys in their 40s.
If Calzaghe's ambition had matched his talent, he would have done so much more. Instead he was more than happy to face undeserving mandatories.
-
Re: Team Ward dare Joe Calzaghe to come out of retirement
Joe C could have been an all time great. He had that kind of talent. he didn't have that kind of ambition. I feel like whoever you want to blame (him, promoter, manager, all 3) cheated the fans. The top 3-4 guys in each generation need to reach for the stars .Be as special as possible. If anything overreach in their ambition.
It is a much bigger mistake for a fighter like Joe C to be fighting undeserving mandatories for quite a while than for him to fail because he went for too much. Same for RoyJones and some of the subpar competition he faced in the 1990s.

Roy jones moved up in weight many times and was the heavyweight champion of the world.
The sad thing is jc has set the blueprint for cleverly who is going the same way..at least enzo mac had the balls to fight the best in his divison in haye..jc never did and never will.

What opponents you face, has a lot to do with how much money you make, boxing is a business first it's
about making a living. Calzaghe had many problems with his hands, so you may say injury diktats when you fight, Many great match up's never happened because, of injury it's part and parcel of the
fight game is it not.

Ward had TWO broken bones in left hand before fighting froch...he never pulled out.

Calzaghe was told his wrist, injury was so bad he should stop boxing but he did NOT.

Andre will be making great paydays without any help from Calzaghe! Calzaghe would generate plenty of interest but Ward does not need Joe. Don't misunderstand me, I like JC but Ward is as popular as Calzaghe ever was! Popular might be the wrong, I'll say well known instead.
-
If jc spent the majority of his career not ducking warriors like glen johnson and fighting manfredos he would have been the best super middleweight ever.
Nathan cleverly is waiting for bad chad to have a few more losses then he will fight him, beat him and be treated like a king like joe.
What a joke.
-
I'm not the biggest jc fan but he is too old now. But think he would ruin ward very easily. He is too durable and very quick with a high work rate that can't be neutralised. Even if he beat joe it wouldn't mean anything cos he is old now, but the fight would have to happen in Wales as don't see why a man should come out of retirement to fight that useless untalented
-
......ward who is full of fear of leaving USA even to go on holiday

Haha! I hadnt thought of stamina but compare the last2 rounds of Calzaghe and Ward against Bika;D
He was also slowing down against Froch and I think if Froch got his ass in gear sooner like he did with Bute that hed wear Ward out.

prime calzaghe vs Ward right now would be such a good fight though, now thats a tough one to pick IMO.

True both are great winners and have plan B and C if it is not working. Joe should stay retired.

Well, I think Joe's ex of 5 years shows you all of the parallels between Joe Calzaghe the "man" and Joe Calzaghe the boxer.
Jealous, cowardly, delusional and simply picking on people weaker than himself ;)

She obviously needs cash, talking about stuff from a couple of years ago...

Re: Team Ward dare Joe Calzaghe to come out of retirement
I've never been a Calzaghe fan, but...... calling a 40-year old out of retirement??
Aren't there other fish to fry for Ward?

A Daily Mail expose from a spurned ex dated April 2010? ooh! ;D You have serious issues mate. He is a good looking chap and all that but I don't think you were ever his type to be honest:gorgeous:;)

Watch the last 2 rounds against Bika. Its embarrasing...

Re: Team Ward dare Joe Calzaghe to come out of retirement
ward and dawson was a rubbish fight, for the two "best" their their divisions
I didnt watch it live, i ended up forwarding most of it
if calzaghe fought ward it would be another sh!t fight
someone needs to stop the holding

Re: Team Ward dare Joe Calzaghe to come out of retirement
Wards team are clutching at straws trying for a Calzaghe fight. Ridiculous. Shows how much they rate their opposition at SMW and LHW.
Rather than thinking about Calzaghe, Ward needs to do two things:
1. Fight outside of Oakland.
2. Fight a Light Heavyweight AT Light Heavyweight.
Next Ward will be offering Martinez a fight at 168 or Bernard Hopkins a fight at 168.
Ward has really grown on me though. Quality on Saturday. Was really disappointed in Dawson though, poor show.
Ward beats Calzaghe IMO.

Yep, the win doesnt mean alot, especially when you consider that Pascal already beat him at his own weight, when he had a bit more ambition and was undefeated.
Look at the Bika fight and the Kessler fight. Calzaghe beat both by fighting. Ward had to hold on or be stopped against Bika and had to smash his head in to Kesslers face a fair few times as well.
Calzaghe got the fresher versions nad his fights against them were infinately more watchable.
-
Re: Team Ward dare Joe Calzaghe to come out of retirement
You can say what you want about Calzaghe and his opposition (it wasn't great, let's be real), but the guy is 40 years old and hasn't fought in 4 years.
I really don't see how beating Calzaghe at this point proves anything for Ward.
-
Re: Team Ward dare Joe Calzaghe to come out of retirement
That's very big of ward! Calling out a retired 40 yr old! Jones is still fighting andre try him!
Dawson was overrated to fuck...pascal whooped him and he was lucky to get the nod vs johnson first time round! He barely beat diaconu too....
All this fight proved to me was that sakio bika is underrated and chad dawson is a quit job! Floored by ward 3 times then quits!! Ward couldn't even stop edison miranda and bika was bullying him ffs! Abraham had him going into turtle mode.
-
Re: Team Ward dare Joe Calzaghe to come out of retirement
Easy win for SuperJoe if he wants to make a comeback but probably won't have any motivation to fight Ward.
Seriously, expecting a 40 year old to make 168 for the first time in six years when he was struggling to make the weight even back then. Maybe Ward just wants to find out what it's like fighting in front of a sell-out crowd.

Hahahahahaha!
That is thebest reply in this thread!
Maybe he will call out Mayweather next?;D

Re: Team Ward dare Joe Calzaghe to come out of retirement
Nonsense, all of you.
Calzaghe will stay retired if he knows what's good for him. ;)
