Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
Diet is very important, but is something that I am only recently coming around to a lot more. When we are young we think we are kings, but just look at the people straddling the West. These people are gluttons and a breakfast of toast, non-sugary cereal, some nuts and a bit of fruit would do them wonders. You only get fat if what is going in is more than what is coming out and a breakfast fry up is only going to accumulate and stockpile. It tastes great, but how easy is it to walk into Gregg's and have a couple of sausage rolls for breakfast on the way to work? It is appalling really.
Once you start to take control of your food, you can then start to take control of your body. If that breakfast is fried, then for sure it isn't healthy and should only be for now and then. This whole subject is something that others would know more about than me, but I for one am starting to see the merits of a more organic diet.
Eating what we want is like rampant consumer capitalism. It isn't sustainable and the fallout will be appalling. You have to change the model because waistline expansion is not infinite.

Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
I'm pretty spartan like about my diet, particularly breakfast, but on Saturday and Sunday morning you bet I'm frying up a couple eggs with bacon/sausage and toast.

Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
I been eatin oatmeal with brown sugar.

Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
If you ever get to Chino, CA, at the Chino Airport, there is a place called Flo's- last I heard it is still there. Going back 40, 50 years it was the place where all the dairymen went for breakfast. I recommend the porkchops and eggs breakfast; two pork chops, three eggs, a slab of hashbrowns, all covered with white gray. Just delicious. Probably at least as dangerous as a cobra to your overall long term health, but awfully good.

Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
I love bacon or sausage and eggs for breakfast, I also might have hash-browns, oats, cream of wheat, a waffle or yogert along with it. I make sure to take a heavy duty multivitamin/multimineral supplement along with an aspirin every day.
What I don't think is good for you for breakfast is a bunch of shit filled with sugar, like pastry, donuts, or putting a lot of sugar in your coffee/tea.
Studies have shown that people who consume a lot of sugar, aren't as good at problem solving as those who eat bacon or sausage and eggs for breakfast, and/or more protein.
@brockton, keep an eye on your cholesterol and blood pressure as you get older, and if need be get some medication for it.

Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
I have just read an article about the very high rate is Bowl cancer particularly in men over the last 30 years. They blame it on processed, mince and red meat. I love my sausages and I know that they contain the crap and left over meat which makes me particularly vulnerable.

Just make sure to have some kind of veggie or cereal fiber along with the meat, and you'll be fine.
cheers,
Dr. Mars

Hand full of pumpkin seeds then, got fiber to help the bowel as Mars says, and got natural magnesium to keep the old prostrate happy too.
Fatty foods or fish n chips, a glass of red feels like it breaks it all up :-\.

Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
Sixty lbs ago it was nothing to sit down and eat runny eggs, hashbrowns and maple links for breakfast AND dinner. Maple sausage and bacon is so damn good. Moderation. Grapefruit and cottage cheese breakfast yesterday and it taste like someone stuffed a dirty wet sock in my mouth!

Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
M-F: I have a cheese stick or piece of fruit on the way out the door to working out with the Soldiers, then after I shower I usually have a greek yogurt for breakfast. I make my own sausage and the rib gets super organic no-nitrate bacon from pigs that were hugged daily so I'm not worried about processed meats. Saturday and Sunday breakfast is a big meal in my home both literally and figuratively.

Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
agreed. worst foods of all time: cold cuts, hot dogs, donuts made with gluten, grease, and hydrogenated oils, white bleached flour, cheese-food (ever see the wording on American Cheese slices? It aint cheese, folks, it legally must be called cheese-food!)

I love just about any kind of veggie, as well as most kinds of beans, whole wheat waffles/cereals and oatmeal, et all. Veggies tend to be low in calories, but high in fiber and vitamins/minerals.

Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
best foods of all time: spinach, carrots, wild fish (the 3 main are sardines, salmon and mackerel), seeds of all kinds, berries, natural apple vinegar (2 tsps a day will keep our blood smokin and your bowels rippin).

My rule of thumb, is eat something good or don't eat at all, eat all the protein (eggs, meat, fish, dairy products et al) you want but be sure to include other foods with a high fiber content to keep those bowels moving. (beer, hot coffee and tea are great natural laxatives)

tea has not worked for me but coffee and beer have. If I drink tea it seems to dehydrate me, cause excessive urination, which leads to constipation. After all, water is what keeps us regular, water from fruits and vegetables. Tea is not good for me, but coffee does a great job, nice and hot, and strong, I like strong coffee---nothing worse almost than piss-weak coffee----ooooh! no thanks. Gotta be strong and a bit sweet, sometimes with cream heavy, sometimes black, depends my mood.
I found watermelon to be the thing which really lets you take a shit the next morning on time, really cleans you out, especially after you eat a big steak the night before---steak really doesnt move through the bowel too fast, kinda constipates me, so I make sure to crank a good half-watermelon after I eat a big steak. Really pushes it through ya.

Same here with the salmon. I eat blackened at least twice a week, almond dusted asparagus on the side. During hurricane season we buy the red salmon and tuna packets by the case ;D Good shit.

I have a fairly large collection of German Beer mugs & Steins i've collected most of my adult life, most are for decoration, but I use some of them (.5 liter mugs) on a daily basis to drink tea and coffee out of. Oddly enough I rarely drink beer out of them. ;)
In the morning like clockwork, I eat breakfast and drink a couple mugs of tea or coffee, followed by a trip to the throne, After that I generally do about 30 to 50 pushups and around 200 situps (crunches) before taking a shower and getting ready for work or my day.

Re: Dangerous drugs and/or diets
No adult should be eating chicken nuggets, at any time of the day.

Once your body gets used to doing it (even at 65 in July) it's a piece of cake, it just takes a little will power. I usually do 20 to 25 pushups, roll over and do 120 crunches, and then repeat. Typically I do this 4-5 days a week, it's become a habit after I got out of the U.S. military in 1971. Granted, I get lazy some months, but I always fall back to this regimen.
While you can never be what you were in your younger days physically, regular exercise can still help you feel damn good. Mentally you can feel as good or even better, because you don't have to go through a lot of the bullshit that comes with youth and middle age.

The best way to work through that shit, is keeping your weight down, exercising and long walks. (a bit of running if you prefer.) I listen to classic rock with headphones when I go for long walks, it gets my mo-jo working. ;)
P.S. don't forget the mega vitamin/mineral supplement and an aspirin.
cheers bro
