David Tua vs Alexander Ustinov

Re: David Tua vs Alexander Ustinov
Tua will probably get stopped and a wake up call that he hasn't tried hard enough in his career. Ustinov is a huge man and has power.

From what I've read, Tua is in very good shape.
And I don't see anyone stopping Tua, he's solid.

That's not stopping him is it?
Barrett ended the fight worse with a badly broken jaw.

Yep. However Tua has scarcely been in a bad fight.
I still think Vitali Haye should be his big fight before retirement.

thats true but you can see from the barrett fights he is a long way past his best, any decent hw with any hope of a title fight would beat barrett even when barrett was at his very best
vitali will never fight haye

I agree, it's very unfortunate.

I dont get it, after Hayes dismal, boring performance v Wladamir, why would anyone even be interested? It would be more of the same.
Its not like he beat, hurt or showed promise against Wlad and Vitali wants revenge, like against Sanders, or Peter (who was holding a title) and its not like he has done a great deal to deserve a shot since.

And Francesco Pianeta has done enough?

you are one of the most vocal (textual) posters about haye in a negative way
it is clear you dont like him
the rest of the world would like to see him fight vitali and even wlad again (excluding lyle)
and vitali has been very vocal about haye since wlad, making several promises

Because Haye is still a very sellable product. Get it signed and let Haye's gob do the rest, it still makes financial sense. My toe was hurt against Wlad, but this time....
Haye might even win! Setting up another fight with Wlad which of course will sell.

Re: David Tua vs Alexander Ustinov
Vitali doesn't want it, Haye stops the slower, less skillful Klitschko, fact is has fought only 1 decent fighter in 10 years.
Since the Lewis fight (hugely declined Lewis) he's fought only Shannon Briggs that I'd say had a chance and he destroyed him.
Fact is, he's never fought anyone as quick as Haye is, and his lack of fights against talented fighters like Haye leads me to believe that Haye probably stops the 41 year old.
The klitschkos are transparent, you can see what they do, Haye chased Wlad for 2 years and he only accepted when Haye got a title.
Then Vitali offered him a shot for almost 0 money, when he knew clearly that Haye was going to fight Chisora for the grudge match and a good pay.
Then Klitschko says ok beat Chisora and I will fight you, hoping Haye goes through a war or even loses to Chisora.
Then Haye blasts Chisora out of there, a guy that gave the 41 year old Klitschko some problems and also noting that Chisora is one of the few fighters Klitschko couldn't stop, so Vitali thinks "fuck that" and starts saying "I offered him the fight, he fought Chisora instead".
Haye stops Vitali inside 6.

Come on now...
Sanders, Peter, Solis, Arreola all had a good chance to upset Vitali. They were the most dangerous guys in the division at the time he fought them. Briggs was a complete waste of time.

I used to think that vitali's second time and champ has been quite impressive, a lot more impressive than people make out anyway
I just read your post where you have listed the 4 best people he has beaten and I have changed my mind

Doesnt change the fact they were the best available at the time though does it. He hasnt avoided anyone other than his brother. Those names were either belt holders or undefeated. They were the most dangerous available opponents.

yes youre right
there are a few fighters around now who are a threat and a much better challenge than he has had before, yet he has chosen to name tua as a posible opponent?
good luck to him if all he wants is one more easy fight, lets hope he hangs up his gloves after that tho so we see some of the ambitious boxers fight it out

perhaps for another thread
i wouldnt rank david tua with that description tho, neither would i rank him with any kind of challenge to any "top" heavyweight
would you?
-
Re: David Tua vs Alexander Ustinov
Sometimes I think the huge profile ko vs Ruiz was a jinx on Tua. He just never really developed past loading up for the one big shot. Ustinov is a behemoth and I'm not sure it's a smart move for a 40 yr old Tua who's chin is showing cracks to try to retrieve his glory by standing in there.
-
Re: David Tua vs Alexander Ustinov
Again with the Haye vs Vitali fight  .....Vitali offered to fight Haye and Haye chose to fight Valuev. Haye could fight Vitali but he'd still lose, Haye's chickenshit performance vs Wladimir tells you all you need to know about how Haye will fair vs any heavyweight who can punch.
Haye will fight Tyson Fury then he'll do what he always does run his stupid fucking mouth, both of them will.
As for Tua of course older heavies will try to come back to get one more title shot, it always happens, I don't know why people are so surprised. I wouldn't be shocked if Sam Peter at some point comes back or Valuev or Ruiz....it's just boxing. If Tua wins and wins a fight vs a top contender he'll more than likely get a title shot, but that's a lot of IF's for a guy that old and with that style.

Sanders was past it
Peter folded when he came to big fights
Arreola would have been better if he was in shape
SOLIS? Are you high? He faked a god damn injury after he was hit by the slightest punch.
The solis fight was fairly recent, how is he the best available?
Briggs is almost the same height and he can bang, and he was active, not against the highest quality but he had 5 fight in 10 months, including Vitali.
He knocked out the other 4 in the first round.
And just generally he has always been dangerous +a former world champion.

Sanders was coming off absolutely obliterating Wlad and was suddenly the most dangerous fighter in the world. Vitali was his very next fight!
Peter had only been beaten by Wlad but dropped him a couple of times and then went on to win the WBC belt.
Arreolas shape is his own fault but he was looking exciting knocking people out when not many other heavies were and he was undefeated.
Solis had an excellent amateur background, beating Haye along the way. He was skill full and could still go places, again, his training habits aren't Vitalis fault!

If Tua wins and wins a fight vs a top contender he'll more than likely get a title shot, but that's a lot of IF's for a guy that old and with that style.
you are clutching at straws

No Briggs was no waste of time. He talked the vilest shit about the brothers for YEARS on boxing forums and in interviews and got what he had coming to him: a broken face, two weeks in the hospital, and the end of his career.

Well, it's about 11am in New Zealand now.
So this should be on very early tomorrow morning in North America.

Apparently Tua was dominated and lost 11 rounds on the cards. He announced his retirement.

Not sure if this got posted, but Mackinnon, who fought our fellow kiwi light-heavyweight Berridge had to have brain surgery after their fight. He is recovering well
