Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
So do you watch fighters for their personality more or less:rolleyes:? Couldn't really have a more diverse range of styles in that list...
-
Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
I enjoy watching all of those guys save Dawson. Chavez put in a lack lustre performance last night but I do enjoy his Lamotta like style.
-
Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
Andre Ward and Bernard Hopkins have the ugliest styles to watch.
-
Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
ill explain my list...
1 Chavez... no respect for the game... missed making weight by 0ver 10 pounds... in every fight, his advantage is 20 pounds..ridiculous.
2 Broner... he a jackass..he can fight, but he's a jackass.
3 Haye... this guy is a phoney... more talk than action.
4 juan ma... hate his grin.
5 Hopkins... tired of giving this guy money and receiving a boring fight. guy gets away with foul after foul..he works the system and his fans for everything ...
6 mayweather... great fighter, not the most exciting fights..but just shut the fk up.
7 ward... another Hopkins...not as boring, but it's Hopkins all over again.
8 margar'cheat'o... I believe he plastered his hands.. he should be out of boxing.
9 chad dawson... he's a fake.

Who is we? Speak for yourself. Most fans of the sport don't give a fuck what a fighter is like or does out of the ring unless it affects their fights.

*the fan... Broner is more talk than fight, just as many watch him fight as to watch to see if's gunna lose... prince Hammed, Ali... when u have a guy that talks and can't back it up..then he's no one..but if u have a guy with personality...of lack there of...then he's an amusement... that's promoting. next time I have to explain this, i'll have to charge u...

Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
No specific order but
1.Tarver
2. Wright (at times)
3. Ruiz
4. Canelo
5. Hatton
6. Taylor
7. Dawson
8. Haye
9. Chavez Jr.
10. Jones (late in his career)
-
Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
I hated watching Henry Maske, Sven Ottke, Johnny Nelson (early on), as they could not punch and you were guaranteed it would go to a decision which they would win. So Abraham and Sturm are the new additions to that list.
-
Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
Active guys
Billy Dib
Demetriius Hopkins
Julio Chavez jr
Chad Dawson
Ishe f'n Smith
B.J Flores...in front of a camera, close enough
Shane Mosley
Joan Guzman
James Toney
Deontay Wilder...seen one, ya seen them all.
-
Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
I agree with most.
But how can an explosive puncher like Haye been in the top ten hated fighters to watch?
"All talk no action"
Clearly you haven't seen his record.
Haye and Fury are both really exciting that's why the fights so big.
I believe the word I'm looking for to discribe the creator of this thread is..... Do the honors Red Foreman....

Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
Its a good thread because it goes to show how diverse the interest in the sport is to this day. Its probably also the reason two judges at ringside can see a different fight I guess. Add in preconceived notions about a fighter and objectivity takes a vacation.
I enjoy watching
Willie Pep
Nicolino Locche
Pernell Whitaker
Floyd Mayweather
Andre Ward
Ivan Calderon
There is a large potion of fans out and about these days that would consider the above 6 boring. Shit, a guy like Locche with only about 15 stoppages in close to 140 fights would probably not have an easy time navigating through today's market. I love the classic technical pugilists that use it all just as much as I love to watch the puncher/boxers like,
Carlos Zarate
Alexis Arguello
Wilfredo Benitez
Ruben Olivares
Tito Trinidad
etc etc etc. I like to watch both sets of fighters however I dont think I would enjoy say a fight between Pep and Locche.
There is a style though if you want to call it that which at times has reasonable success and yet is almost unwatchable that hangs out in the boxing ozone and @Master nailed it.
Guys like,
Abraham
Mormeck
Arslan
Briggs in his last few years.
-
Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
Exactly, spot on.
What's most boring to watch; irrespective of styles, is someone who can't consistently work, or who gets by on the threat of something they don't actually deliver consistently. I can appreciate all types of fighters but I most like to see guys who are cerebral in the ring, and always thinking of ways to win. I don't like to see guys give up rounds in hopes of coming on late, I'd rather watch certain fighters most would consider boring stylistically I think.

Haye - Klit
Haye - Valuev
Haye - Audley
I get what your saying and I like watching him but I can see why people thinks he's shit considering his highest profile fights of the last few years were shocking
-
Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
Anyone see Holyfield v Poketkin or Valuev boring.
-
Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
Theres fighters and styles I prefer more than others but I don't dislike watching any fighter. Boxing is boxing.

Watching him box is like watching Jackie Chan in the drunken master. He would be exciting to watch if not for the fact that anytime he faces a fighter that can hit he is all over the place.. like the Maidana fight.
Second of all, the first few post on this thread seemed to be about the boxers personality now it seems its more about styles of fighting... Somewhere along the way we got off track.
If boring styles to watch is what this thread is about I would have to completely redo my list.. and yes Khan would not be on it cause I do enjoy watching him get drop lol.
1.Ruiz
2. Calderon
3. Ishe Smith
4. Valuev .... etc .. However I don't think thats what the poster was getting at.

I use to watch Pernell a lot and could never figure his style and why other fighters could not hit never mind beat him. He had great body work and conditioning but I was not a fan but admired his skills in beating Chavez, Buddy McGirt, Nelson and the british fighter Jacobs. The way he beat Vasquez at light middle was pure quality.

*im not sure the average fan knows just how animalistic Vasquez was when Pernel beat him... Vasquez was a VERY tuff fighter... would he beat the likes of canelo ,now..maybe... that's how good he was, and how good pernell was.
i'm the same as u, I would think"why can't he be hit. it'always pisses me off that I never got in the ring with Pernell... he'd wander into San Fernando Gym in San Antonio every now and again..no fan-fare... he'd be in town and would go to the gym. I remember hitting the bag once and saying.."that's pernell over there"..all alone shadow boxing... I wish I had been in shape and got I the ring with, just to see what his thing was. I was a jabbing futhafka with a viscious hook,,, Tony Ayala once called my hook "a work of art"...
Another time, i'm hitting the bag... and the guy behing me is Orlando Canizalez... I nod my head, a slight "whats up"motion and continue on my busness..I turn to the bag and there's Gabby...

I couldn't stand Whitaker either, not a bit. Likewise I came to respect him off the Chavez fight where I sat up straight and looked past his cocky clowny ways that were there and the Vasquez win was quality. Vazquez was a pure comer with whipping power and a very sharp left hand who never stopped chugging. He wasn't tremendous when facing a quality boxer, Davis could make a case for a win and Wright did well in between all those KDS and slips but Vaquez was no joke and if you got careless like Daniels, he could detonate you with a single shot!

For sure, but I do think Whitaker did it bigger and to me Vazquez was more of a fluid live and seasoned threat who showed different gears...hindsight being 20-20. Also none of that catchweight bullcrap. Whitaker had to get off the canvas and felt those body shots early but that was a masterclass display.

This is brilliant. Some consider Floyd and Whitaker boring and yet others just as interested consider them pugilistic masters.
I'll tell you whats boring. Spending 10 bucks on a cab in order to get to a bar to see Tyson/Seldon. Others at home would consider the 40 dollar ppv as money well spent. It matched the instant gratification of that 2 minute microwave Captain Highliner dish.;D
Sorry about that butchering of the last name Capitan.

Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
With all that has been said about the Pernell Whitaker appreciation society, the crux of the matter is that we would watch him only if the opponent represented a real challenge for him otherwise it would be just one way traffic and boring.

But cant that be applied to any fighter really? Trust me, there was always hope Whitaker would have caught a bomb ;D but then they make the legit bombers look foolish. Both had track meets and bores, but for me Whitaker ran through hotter fires than steady snow.

Re: p4p most disliked fighters to watch
Disliked why? Because their styles are torture to watch? Or because you dislike them as fighters so much you're dying for them to lose? Not sure which one you mean.... so I'll answer both.
Because of their styles... that would include fighters who are afraid to go on offense because they're scared of getting hit. No chin.... no defense.... etc, etc. Also guys who ruin fights with tactics like excessive clinching, or headbutting. Tim Bradley falls into the latter category. It's like waiting for the next headbutt to occur. Mauling and fouling is another tactic I can't stand. It's like the fighter is trying to make up for lack of pure boxing skills and/or power by mauling. Hopkins is an ATG... but his style never did much for me. Throwing pitty-pat flurries only to impress the judges is another style I abhor. It works for the judges, but not for me. The DLH-Quartey fight was fun to watch and a great fight. But I remember DLH doing this "look-at-me" flurry once or twice. A lot of slaps... not much punching.
Because I can't stand them.... that would include habitual cheaters, coddled fighters, low-life scumbags who are downright worthless outside of a boxing ring..... you know..... stuff like that. Also young punks who are more style than substance. I usually can't wait for those to get their comeuppance. But in these cases, I've been known to change my mind over time. One example was Zab Judah. Hated his punk ass in the very beginning... but have gotten to like him as he's matured and shown some balls and heart in the ring.
On the 2nd type, their fights can be exciting... so I don't mind watching them.
I just have a huge vested interest in the outcome.
