Its a good thread because it goes to show how diverse the interest in the sport is to this day. Its probably also the reason two judges at ringside can see a different fight I guess. Add in preconceived notions about a fighter and objectivity takes a vacation.

    I enjoy watching

    Willie Pep
    Nicolino Locche
    Pernell Whitaker
    Floyd Mayweather
    Andre Ward
    Ivan Calderon

There is a large potion of fans out and about these days that would consider the above 6 boring. Shit, a guy like Locche with only about 15 stoppages in close to 140 fights would probably not have an easy time navigating through today's market. I love the classic technical pugilists that use it all just as much as I love to watch the puncher/boxers like,

    Carlos Zarate
    Alexis Arguello
    Wilfredo Benitez
    Ruben Olivares
    Tito Trinidad

etc etc etc. I like to watch both sets of fighters however I dont think I would enjoy say a fight between Pep and Locche.

There is a style though if you want to call it that which at times has reasonable success and yet is almost unwatchable that hangs out in the boxing ozone and @Master nailed it.

    Guys like,

    Abraham
    Mormeck
    Arslan
Briggs in his last few years.

    Exactly, spot on.

What's most boring to watch; irrespective of styles, is someone who can't consistently work, or who gets by on the threat of something they don't actually deliver consistently. I can appreciate all types of fighters but I most like to see guys who are cerebral in the ring, and always thinking of ways to win. I don't like to see guys give up rounds in hopes of coming on late, I'd rather watch certain fighters most would consider boring stylistically I think.

Watching him box is like watching Jackie Chan in the drunken master. He would be exciting to watch if not for the fact that anytime he faces a fighter that can hit he is all over the place.. like the Maidana fight.

Second of all, the first few post on this thread seemed to be about the boxers personality now it seems its more about styles of fighting... Somewhere along the way we got off track.

If boring styles to watch is what this thread is about I would have to completely redo my list.. and yes Khan would not be on it cause I do enjoy watching him get drop lol.

    1.Ruiz
    2. Calderon
    3. Ishe Smith
    4. Valuev .... etc .. However I don't think thats what the poster was getting at.

I use to watch Pernell a lot and could never figure his style and why other fighters could not hit never mind beat him. He had great body work and conditioning but I was not a fan but admired his skills in beating Chavez, Buddy McGirt, Nelson and the british fighter Jacobs. The way he beat Vasquez at light middle was pure quality.

*im not sure the average fan knows just how animalistic Vasquez was when Pernel beat him... Vasquez was a VERY tuff fighter... would he beat the likes of canelo ,now..maybe... that's how good he was, and how good pernell was.
i'm the same as u, I would think"why can't he be hit. it'always pisses me off that I never got in the ring with Pernell... he'd wander into San Fernando Gym in San Antonio every now and again..no fan-fare... he'd be in town and would go to the gym. I remember hitting the bag once and saying.."that's pernell over there"..all alone shadow boxing... I wish I had been in shape and got I the ring with, just to see what his thing was. I was a jabbing futhafka with a viscious hook,,, Tony Ayala once called my hook "a work of art"...
Another time, i'm hitting the bag... and the guy behing me is Orlando Canizalez... I nod my head, a slight "whats up"motion and continue on my busness..I turn to the bag and there's Gabby...
