Halal meat..do you prefer it?
In the uk theres alot of talk about certain restaurants (pizza express) only providing halal meat without telling the customers..
Theres also stories of other outlets (subway) not selling ham etc anymore due to it upsetting muslims etc.
Does anyone prefer normal or halal meat for taste?
Or is it a religious reason you prefer the latter OR the fact you prefer the animal to be killed in a certain way before process..
-
Re: Halal meat..do you prefer it?
I prefer to eat what I want regardless of the views of certain religious groups. What is Halal or "permissible" to Muslims is sacrilege to Hindus, so why is 1 religion dictating over others?
I eat pork and I drink bourbon....that ain't changing anytime soon.
-
Re: Halal meat..do you prefer it?
....fucking EVERYONE capitulating to Muslims irritates me. I have nothing against peaceful practitioners of Islam but going to a sandwich shop and being outraged at meat because of your religion is pretty fucking ridiculous.
At this point I begin to wonder "What DOESN'T piss Muslims off"? I don't want to harp on them, but if you look at Christians (whom I have a lot more experience dealing with living in the Southeastern United States) a lot of Bible beaters refrain from drinking. Now they might look at drinkers (especially those blasted liquor drinkers ;) ) with disdain, but what you DON'T SEE are those very same Teetotalers going to Bars and ordering soft drinks and then getting all pissy because the Bar serves booze....this shit right here is EXACTLY like that. Muslims SEEM (I said "SEEM" mind you) to seek out shit to be outraged about. If I don't practice Islam then what is wrong with me having some bacon or a pork chop? I'm going to do what I want because I don't follow Islam, I don't believe God wants me to abstain from alcohol either, but I don't believe Christians are going to stir up enough shit to where I can't drink again (again...because they DID have Prohibition, but that shit won't even stop me).
I'm all for Liberty, if you like Halal meat, fine more power to you, but don't fuck with what I do.

Re: Halal meat..do you prefer it?
If I've ever had it, it was unknowingly in a shawarma or something. I can't imagine chanting Allahu Akbar during the slaughter makes a great deal of difference in the taste:D. Like the idea of the animals being killed more humanely otherwise though, as I believe is part of it.
A lot of the reason pork is forbidden in that part of the world actually dates way back to the days before refrigeration was possible, the meat would spoil very quickly in desert heat and was susceptible to all kinds of viruses that would make people sick etc.

EXACTLY, same with shellfish!
Jewish people who don't eat shellfish or pork, don't complain about restaurants serving pork or shellfish, they just don't fucking eat it.
Not everything in the world is a slight against one certain religion....I wish a few people got that idea in their heads

Halal meat is cheaper so we might be seeing alot more of it.
Alot of scare tactics are used in the media but the public should be given the option.
Pizza express is rubbish anyway..better off with a sainsburys bbq chicken pizza!

Re: Halal meat..do you prefer it?
I don't eat Halal meat. No difference in the taste but it is cruel imo.
Don't believe what they say about it being more humane. They slit the throat but make sure not to cut the spinal cord as the animal must bleed out. They say it's quick and painless but studies have said otherwise.
Most Halal abattoirs in the UK now claim to stun the animal before slitting the throat, however stunning or sedating in any way is against Islamic practice (what the fuck?) so it has been shown that many use the weakest form of stun permissible which has little effect on the animal.
I'm all for tolerating different cultures but that doesn't mean tolerating the intolerable. Just as we wouldn't and shouldn't accept many other practices and traditions from other cultures.

I love eating meat, I should not eat beef but love my steak n kidney pie. Makes no difference and people should not be upset what other people eat.

Re: Halal meat..do you prefer it?
I have been a slaughterman and a food safety officer at a meat works for years. What happens is the animals are blessed by the muslim right after they get stunned, right before they have their throat cut, they don't bless every piece of meat.
There's absolutely no difference in the meat from an Australian abattoir because the rest of it is produced as usual.
Halal meat from a middle east country or a plant predominantly middle east factory is definitely shitter quality because they are shit workers, put the anumals through pain and suffereing before death which stresses the flesh and reduces all the eating and keeping qualities and they are some of the filthiest swine ever, not even washing their hands sometimes after taking a dump then returning to work.
My advice is stay away from halal and you'll do fine. The reason those countries use a lot of spice in their cooking is cause the quality of meat is so bad!

Being knowledgeable as I'm sure you are do you think Kobe meat is worth the fuss. I tried it and it was quite tasty but I think American Angus is just as good.

I agree our abattoirs workers hate the Halal butchers and the cattle hate them too they got more time to know what coming because it isnt like the old days where a priest or kafunga or whatever they call themselves would say a prayer of thanks and bang the job is done while the animal is looking elsewhere.
Besides who wants the odd beard hair in their pies?

actually, I think there is an unspoken media propensity to keep saying all this shit about Muslims just to make the public angry and frightened.
Notwithstanding the few nutters that you get in every religion, I've yet to meet a Muslim who gets offended over pointless shit like this.

the salient question about KFC isn't how the animal was killed ...... It's what fucking animal is it? I've never tasted real chicken that tastes anything like KFC.
I reckon that's why pandas are nearly extinct, the Colonel has been putting them in his greasy boxes of artery hardening death

Re: Halal meat..do you prefer it?
I have never really thought about it and I suppose that makes me quite terrible. I love meat and savor the taste and yet don't think about the animal that is giving me life giving qualities. I should. I am intelligent in some ways, but in other ways I am profoundly ignorant and stupid and this is an area where I am confessedly so. How can you ignore the murder of animals and their forced bondage and slavery? I don't think I am alone in doing so. I would never consider becoming vegetarian as I do enjoy meat and I believe that whilst some humans are capable in the herbivore sphere, I am not. I have little in common with horses, rabbits, or deer, and though I have eaten none of these creatures, I would. I don't have a problem with eating animals and have an odd respect for the culture of eating dogs too. That is the one we are all supposed to wince at, but I think that is hypocritical.
I've never thought about different processes of killing animals, but if they are to be killed, I want their lives to be given more dignity and for them to die as painlessly as possible. I don't think it affects the taste of the meat how they are killed. How an animal is raised will affect the meat, but the difference of rope, knife or bullet, is irrelevant. Just as there is organic farming, I would like to see more meat with animals that were given some time to be free. Intensive farming for instance, isn't very nice. Making money like that is like a teacher who enjoys crammed classrooms and as little student freedom as possible. Why don't you just become a prison guard? However, I have been ignorant on this issue and it is likely going to pester my thoughts.

Re: Halal meat..do you prefer it?
ive thought about it and looked into it since the subject has come up and ive changed my view
initially when i saw the videos i thought it was a bit brutal and unecessary
its not really tho and despite appearences a lot of tests suggest the animal feels less pain than when electricuted
its seems the muslims treat the animals much better in the build up and around the slaughter than they are treated in "western" slaughter houses
isnt it hypocritical of me to refuse to eat a cow killed via halal than to eat 10 killed by electricution?
-
Re: Halal meat..do you prefer it?
think about history too
animals have been killed using halal methods for how many hundreds of years? and it might not be the least painful method of slaughter in this day and age, but even if thats true, even if the electricution is less painful then thats only been the case for the last 50 years perhaps
so the halal slaughterers have been champion slaughterers for a thousand years and now they could be coming second people are calling them cunts :)

Lyle there are plenty of Orhtodox Jews in New York and New Jersey and connecticut who would NEVER enter a restaurant let alone EAT there that is serving NON_KOSHER foods.

Re: Halal meat..do you prefer it?
It should make no difference if you eat meat anyway. Yes you should have the choice and knowledge of what you are eating but if you use to eat elsewhere just because you do not like the religion or the religious aspects of it should not be reason enough to not eat it.
