Wlad learned from the best.

Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
Too Numerous To Count
* He should have been DQ'd in the Joe Frazier II bout in 1974.
-
By my calculation 8625 points.

Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
Yeah, people dog modern guys who hold, clinch, and foul but guys like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson did that shit all time.
-
Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
I Blame The Referee's,
Who were all in Muhammad's 'corner', or were in fear of later retaliation.
All were afraid to penalize him a point, in fear of being called a 'racist'.
In my Book,
Joe Frazier wins the 2nd-bout, by way of Points. I could count at least 7-Times
where 'Clutching Cassius' should have been penalized.
-
Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
Yep, Ali's tactics in the 2nd Frazier fight turned the fight into pure $#!t...
...and one of the worst refs in Boxing history, tony perez, did nothing about it!
-
Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
Correcto Mundo,
January 1974
Joe Frazier earns a 12-Round Unanimous Decision over 'Clutching Cassius' who
is correctly penalized 7-Points for incessant holding and fouling.
Cassius drops to #3 in the Heavyweight Rankings.
Joe Frazier moves to #1.
Ken Norton stays at #2, despite getting KO'd in 2 by George Foreman.
Cassius is now nicknamed 'The Clutch' by the Press.
Liberace reclaims the moniker 'The Greatest'.

That's true! I think the average boxing fan of today is more knowledgable or, at least, wants to see a level playing field.
I think most of the excessive holding is do to piss poor refereeing. Ali used to hit and hold, hit and hold round after round and it did make me mad but I'd be just as disgusted with the referee.
Boxing is a brutal sport and protecting yourself by holding is something we have to put up with to a point. It's the referees job to hold it to an acceptable level.
Yes, Ali should have lost plenty of points for holding and I blame the referees for not taking them.

Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
I just don't see Clay as the best HW ever , let alone best fighter ever. I didn't care for his style at all.
-
Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
Cassius Clay
Had more stinkeroo's than good performances.

@Bill Paxtom you need to learn how to properly use the apostrophe.

Points that should have been deducted.
Cassius Clay

Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
Forget you all. Ali is the greatest. You are all fools for agreeing with Bill. That alone tells you you are deluded.

Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
could Bill be one of George's kids? Nahhh he's from Connnecticut but GF is from Texas.

Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
One of the dirtiest of his era. Like watching the garbage Floyd got away with against Hatton in every other fight but not even in the top 50 ever.
-
Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
If a Muhammad Ali bout was on Television.
We switched over to watch re-runs of 'I Love Lucy'.
Nearly everyone of Ali's bouts were scripted, much like 'I Love Lucy'

Agreed. Esp. the Lyle bout and the 3rd Norton bout, total b.s. it was definitely choreographed. Refs paid off if anything went wrong.

Re: how many points should Ali have lost fouling?
In Ali/Frazier II, Ali initiated and clutched Frazier 147 times with not a single point taken by tony perez.
However, perez also called a premature end to rd 2 just when Ali stunned Frazier.
Frazier was let off the hook there and was given time to recover because of tony's incompetence.
I know these things because I decided to take out a sheet and score that fight a few years ago. Horrible excuse for a fight. I don't recommend trying to score it.
Ali and Frazier are certainly Legends and their other 2 fights are classics along with several of their other battles against other outstanding fighters ... but their 2nd fight, though hyped and ballyhooed to the public, held at Madison Square Garden and broadcast on Closed-Circuit tv, failed to deliver and turned out to be pure crapola which had everything to do with Ali's holding tactics that night and nothing to do with Frazier who always brought the fight to his opponent.
ps I never said I agreed with Bill. I was talking about that one fight with all the excessive holding.
