GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
Ring Ratings 2015
Miguel Cotto 39-4
Gennady Golovkin 32-0
Peter Quillin 31-0
Sergio Martinez 51-3-2
Daniel Geale 31-3
Hassan N'Dam 31-1
Andy Lee 34-2
Martin Murray 29-2-1
Jermaine Taylor 33-4-1
Billy Joe Saunders 21-0
Ring Ratings 1992
Julian Jackson 45-1 (WBC champ)
James Toney 32-0-2 (IBF champ)
Mike McCallum 43-2-1
Sumbu Kalambay 54-3-1
Roy Jones 19-0
Reggie Johnson 31-2-1 (wba champ)
Lamar Parks 22-0
Gerald McCellan 25-2
Bernard Hopkins 19-1
1992 stomps out 2015, GGG included. Parks & Lamar from 1992 beats Lee & Murray. RJJ & JT beats everyone ranked. GGG probably stops JJ in a barnburner. Gman vs GGG FOTY candidate. Kalambay vs Cotto great matchup. Hopkins beats Taylor without controversy.
2015 has some good fighters, but no way in hell does 22 plus years of nutrition and conditioning coaches make a not-a-damn-F'n-difference for the MW's of today.
1992's MW's here? Don't need no stinkin' nutrition Ariza protein-vita-vegimin-roid-milkshake. 1992 beats 2015 MW's because they are just better.
Hands down.
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
Class 92 would smash the current list! All of 92 look awesome.
The fact that Cotto has won a title says it all.

Lookin' back on it, I'd say our generation had it pretty good huh? I mean great list of warriors for anyone at least 10 years of age in 1992- would know- That was a kick ass list!;D
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
Hahah, hardly a contest. 1992 is a bunch of killers ffs, pretty much an all star team. From todays crop you could only really give GGG a chance against half of those guys and we'd still have no benchmark really. I don't think Cotto or Quillin could beat anyone on that list truthfully.

Fun post. When did did RJJ move up in weight? Was this just after he beat Hopkins?
It's a bummer that with that deep of a division in 1992 that we didn't see more match-ups of top guys. Am I right?
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
James Toney vs Cotto would've been special. It's not like JT runs from anyone. Yet he had lapses where he didn't always show up. A bit bias for Cotto, so I'd pick him over Lamar Parks & Reggie Johnson. ;D

Special like Roy Jones vs Manny PAcquiao would have been?;D I don't think Cotto could have done anything at all to James at 160, or Reggie Johnson either, who was a really good fighter. He made a good move in fighting MArtinez and looked good there, but let's not get carried away... He's not far removed from getting shut out by Austin TRout at 154, and that's arguably the last capable boxer he faced.
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
#10 Steve Collins ;D I can't see 92' with too much to worry about. Its tough to rank Cotto as he won't even make the complete step up but Kalamby works him out as does Johnson. The only one iffy is Kid Fire Parks. Really think if Lee landed a couple haymakers Parks would be in a bad way. The Murray who was granite & gonads vs Golovkin might even grind him down.

Like lions you pick the weakest in the pack. Law of the jungle and circle of life. :)
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
In 2025 someone will start a thread using the eyepad (a device that plugs into your eyes which you can start threads on) saying which is better class of 2015 or today's lot and the answers will be the 2015 lot would smash the current crop
Then in 2035 a similar thing will happen be this time with their brain implant, and they will start the thread whilst teleporting to Barbados for a family holiday
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
Teleporting to Barbados will at least mean we do not have to worry about depressed pilots.
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
First thought was - Fuck me! The 2015 gang will get killed.
But I wonder if the reality would be so onesided? In his pomp Taylor actually did beat Hopkins, twice. You could probably find a few wins stylewise for the 2015 mob. GGG wouldn't be out of place against any of them. Lee did iron out Jackson's son after all (joke).
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
That's not to say today's class is bad, far from it IMO, just 1992 was obviously freakishly strong.
James Toney whips everyone on today's list, as does Roy Jones, Bhop, McCallum and IMO Reggie Johnson. Johnson is SO fucking underrated, most people have no idea how good that guy was.

Gatta agree. Looking at how it stacks up, GGG and Cotto may be the only guys that can actually be competitive with some of the guys from 92. For sure they beat Parks and Kalumbay (maybe)...lolol...

Exactly, at the time these guys were young- we knew they were something special- we just didnt know how special they would all become. Today's guys is kinda iffy.

Fought Hop in 93 @ MW, then moved to SMW in 94.
It's a bummer that with that deep of a division in 1992 that we didn't see more match-ups of top guys. Am I right?
Agrreed. JT was already having issues making MW by 92, even though he won it in 91. quietly taking on the names of Reggie Johnson, MiKe McCallum & Michael Nunn oh & Merqui Sosa- check this out...JT did this in one 1/2 years!!!;D The belt he relinquished is what Hop & RJJ fought for (vacant). JT in 2 fights took on Doug Dewitt & Iran Barkley-truley a throwback fighter (a word not overused or incorrectly used! LOL!;D
& Julian Jackson @ the time was having medical issues -his eye I think & he was really a Jr. Middle who ran into Gman who weighed as much as a SMW when he fought Jackson. There was some good matchups back then- they just didnt have the PPV hyped- they did their work on the undercards and 1/2 empty arenas.
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
When Jackson fought McCellan in their 1st match- it was billed as BOMBS AWAY.
Great friggin throwdown!!!! What was sad about it- look at the arena- they fought their butts off in a 1/2 empty arena.
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
I remember watching Yori Boy Campus v Roger Turner on an under card in the heat and near empty stadium fight a brilliant contest.
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
Put that on my to check out list: Campas-Turner.

Both were undefeated at the time, boxer v brawler. Quality action from 2 young hungry fighters.

It was not about the money back then, but having it was good. lolol... they had a point to prove. I think that is missing from this era's fighters- only a few of them do it because they actually like it. Money, while important, does not a fight make.
The only guy out there fighting the best of the best without the money being a priority is GGG- he would take anyone from 154 to 168. We know it. We all know it.
With Ward back now, hopefully for good, we would have another guy that would take on any and everyone from a certain band- 160 to 175. We know deep down that Ward would take a fight... we know it. Don't front.
Re: GGG & crew vs 1992's crew
Your comment reminds me of the end of Hopkins Echols I.
Antwon nails Hop less than a minute left, yet Hop doesn't clinch he fights it out & as soon as the bout ends: Hop goes to the only section where there were fans, like he was seeking their approval.
Did I impress? To which all of the 45-75 people gave their approval.

King put on some good fights on the under card. :)
