Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch
If Golovkin wins on Saturday he has hit the Jackpot as it's his last contracted HBO fight.
He'll be pitched massively by DAZN/Hearn, ESPN/Arum, FOX/Haymon and HBO will do well to keep him given the latest budgets these new deals have given the promoters.
GGG must be rubbing his hands together already because he's in touching distance of becoming a global mega star and earning serious amounts of money $$$$$

Re: Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch
I can't believe he only got 35% the first time he fought Canelo. At least he's getting 45 now. However even though now he is home free after this fight seriously how many more really good fights do you think he has left in him? At the championship level I can't see more than two

Re: Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch
Hope Golovkin gets to be the superstar he deserves to be and becomes a household name in the US after he beats Canelo. I agree Golovkin does not have too long left in the game at the highest level and like Hagler he will only be rated as an ATG after he retires.

Re: Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch
Unfortunately he is passed his prime days and won’t be at the top level for long

Re: Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch
I hope he fights the best guys and gets paid handsomely. But I think he’s ready to cash out not cash in. Really hope to be wrong though.

Re: Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch
Golovkin isn't going to win this fight tho...

I think the best fights would bring him the most $$$. The Jacobs/ Derevyanchenko winner, is a tough fight but 1 of the top paydays at 160, Jermall is another tough one, but I'd see both getting paid well. Groves at 168 would also be another tough one, but good money. Saunders, tough fight with good money involved.
I guess GGG could look at 'easier' money fights like Murata, tell will pay him well, but it could also be more difficult than expected.
Maybe Ramirez or Uzcategui at 168, for less money, but also less risk.
If he can stay around for at least 3 big fights (Saunders, The Jacobs/ Derevyanchenko winner, Groves or maybe Jermall) he can define his legacy.

Re: Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch
Tom Loeffler has done a great job for Golovkin, if HBO don't resign him they really must be giving boxing the boot.
Not sure why you guys care so much about how many millions a millionaire will make in future, but whoever Golovkin fights he wont make as much as he has with Canelo, who's worth more than all the other middleweights put together.

I don't care how much these guys get, but they do risk their lives for our entertainment. When a cheater like Canelo or a guy like Broner are getting paid well, GGG deserves some good paydays.
If the fight is close we may get a 3rd fight. Canelo will still bring big $$$.

Do not want to see a 3rd fight. Even a close Golovkin win will do and he moves on.
Canelo will always make money whoever he fights.

No I wouldn't want to see a 3rd unless it was controversial. But a if it was close it would probably make GGG the most money, which I could see him taking.

He's waited on Canelo this long. He wants the biggest purses possible at this stage of his career.

I think there comes a point where his dignity and pride will tell him that it would be better to take on other challengers.
There could be more money in the fight later on with Canelo anyway when the appetite and situation with other challengers is improved.

Re: Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch
Fuck Canelo, Golovkin needs to batter him so there's no doubt who won then go after Saunders and do what he said he was going to 3 years ago.
Clean up the division if he can beat Saunders that is.
I'm expecting a shootout on Saturday... all out war till someone drops 👊🏻

Granted mate just in boxing you don't get what you deserve you get what you negotiate.
Golovkin has done terrific through boxing. Deservedly so.

I gave GGG a pass for this fight (kind of), so if he took a third fight, I would quit caring about him.

Exactly. Golovkin's best hope after Saturday night is that another fight with Alvarez is a viable fight that people want to see and Alvarez wants to make. Ideally a close points win for Golovkin in a fight that is exciting enough that people want to see it again. Golovkin has had a lot of hard fights, he's been making 160 for over half his life and he's at the tail end of a long career.
He made more money from the first Alvarez fight than he had in his entire previous career and this one will set him up nicely. After Saturday night he's either looking at tens of millions for a third Alvarez fight or two or three million per fight for fighting guys like Charlo.
Seriously, in his position, how many of you would fancy signing a four or five fight contract to fight a bunch of hungry guys like Charlo when you could make more money with one fight against a guy who isn't going to do you any serious damage? I'd take the trilogy fight and sail off into the sunset.

I understand that money talks, but if GGG won a fight on PTS, who would be interested in a third fight when GGG beat him twice clearly?

The people buying this fight in the main are Mexican fans. They're the biggest chunk of PPV paying fans out there by a country mile. You've basically got hardcore boxing fans who buy PPVs, and you can see how many of those there are by looking at the shit Golovkin Jacobs PPV numbers, and Mexicans/Mexican-Americans. That's why this fight is happening on Mexican Independence day. It's why the last one was on Cinco De Mayo. That's why Floyd only ever fought on those dates for almost all his PPV career. Hispanics get together and all chip a few dollars in and have a PPV party on their celebration days and everybody makes money.
So if Alvarez loses then it's an easy sell. Alvarez fans want to see if he can get revenge. Hardcore fans buy it anyway because it's a big event and if a few of them don't it doesn't affect total sale very much.

One judge gave Alvarez every round last time. Vegas judges get their paydays from the State Athletic Commission who pick judges they know will judge fights the way they want them judged. So really this is up to Vegas and the various powerbrokers who decide these things. What they want is Alvarez headlining May/September events for years to come because there's literally nobody else around on the horizon who could do the job. Maybe they think Alvarez could actually be burnished by a loss and then a win in the trilogy fight and can then go on to sell more big events. Maybe they think Golovkin is on the slide and Alvarez will make the third fight competitive enough that they can give him the win.
Or maybe they just think fuck it, if Alvarez is on his feet at the end of the twelfth he gets the decision. It's all down to a bunch of cold calculations about money and future revenue streams, nothing to do with who is the better fighter.

Awesome :thumb:
Way to win everyone over with a 'it doesn't much matter who is winning the fight the judges won't allow Canelo to be shutout'
Canelo might be Golden Boy's Golden Child, but he's not getting any younger, he's not getting any bigger (unless of course that Mexican beef diet kicks in again), and he's not getting any better. He's hit his peak value it's been downhill since Floyd beat and beat him EASILY.
GGG is no longer at the peak of his powers but he's not going to lose to Canelo and if he did he wouldn't have any big money fights left although Floyd might go for him then and only then.

Re: Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch
Let's not be that cynical about boxing. Manny Pacquiao lost to Bradley when he was the house fighter and did not deserve the decision so it is not all based on money.
I think it will work the other way and the judges will side with Golovkin.

I kind of feel that same way. I don’t see them robbing GGG twice. I think it will be a fair decision this time.

AC/DC lost their singer, their drummer, Malcolm Young died and the bass player retired but if Angus decides he wants to play again promoters will be banging his door down with lorryloads of cash to sign him and four scrubs up for a stadium tour. It doesn't matter what kind of state the band is in, people still want to see them.
Professional boxing is just another part of showbusiness like AC/DC or Beyonce or monster trucks, whatever you can sell tickets and hotel rooms and food and drink and so on to get people to come and see. It doesn't matter how good Alvarez is, his boxing ability or whether he's already past his best have nothing to do with it. As long as Alvarez is doing the numbers he's going to be the house fighter in Vegas. If somebody more bums on seats/PPVable comes along at 160 then that guy would be the house fighter and get the dodgy decision over the ginger. As long as Alvarez remains a viable attraction they're going to nurse him along. The Vegas casino owners aren't boxing fans, they're money fans. Anybody who can sell out an event they put on is going to get all the help they can give them.
-
Re: Network Bidding War For Golovkin Set To Take Place After Canelo Rematch
So all arguments here are on the same side.
Everyone agrees that Ginger IS the cash cow of choice these days... and has been for awhile. Whether he wins or loses..... whether he cheats or doesn't..... it doesn't matter WHAT Ginger does, his status as cash cow is untouchable. There's another thread on this, I think. But it should hardly be a surprise to anyone. Ginger was groomed for this since Day One. Beginning with the fattened record (not on Clenbuterol, but on tomato cans in Mexico). As he was dispatching bartenders and cab drivers, the fan adoration was beginning. He's got the red-headed, boyish good looks, so why not. Captain Fishnets identified with him, having been a matinee idol type himself. And so began the relationship, with none other than JCC himself once criticizing Ginger as a fabricated phenomenon. Since he was coming up I called it..... saying he was born with a silver spoon. Once he got to 40+ fights of course the pressure began for him to face credible opposition, till he was finally gifted a fight against Floyd. We all know how that played out..... a boring shutout. Besides that, he preyed on undersized and/or old fighters..... and here we are today. Ginger can do no wrong, and his fanatical throngs of fans will follow him wherever he goes.... sort of like the boxing version of Elvis. Elvis became fat and drugged out... and he still had his loyal fans. But at least Elvis was real at one time. That would be the difference right there. Yeah..... Vegas LOVES Ginger. They'll miss him when he's gone. Then they'll do what they always do..... find another cash cow to take his place.
