Okay so I've got a few questions, let me tell you about myself first though so you get who I am.
I'm 19, I took up boxing last year but I've always wanted to do something like this. I'm a fan of martial arts movies and comics, I like a variety of music including metal, rap and rave. I've got a few tattoos and I'm a pretty quirky happy chap. I'm a big fan of UFC and I love training when I'm down my local club, I do boxing in the week and train in general MMA every saturday which includes muay thai, BJJ and a bit of wrestling for good measure.
I study all the time, all day I think about fighting and when I'm at home online I'm studying.
My style--------------
I try to keep myself nice and relaxed, I throw my jabs with a nice relaxed arm and throw from the shoulder first for speed, it's nice and fast with a smooth fluid flow. I then focus on bringing the elbow back to the body first when pulling it back as I find it gets me back in my stance nice and quick, I never drop my hands and I keep my eyes on my target at all times.
When I move I push off the feet as expected and slide/glide with the back foot/pushing foot so that I've always got a good base/stance to fire jabs from if attacked while moving. I like to take small steps sidewards, always circling away from the power hand. I train all the time and i'm good at what I do, I feel like fighting is what I'm here to be good at.
Problem is that I'm different to alot of the usual guys down there, I'm not a "chav" or an asshole, I originally wanted to train in MMA so that I could help people and be one of the few good guys. Today an old guy who runs the boxing crew down there commented to one of my MMA trainers that I'm not a fighter, even though hes never seen me spar. I usually spar every saturday with the MMA guys since they're alot more friendly and nice, the boxing guys are mostly assholes. I want to prove the boxing guy wrong on wednesday by stepping in the ring and taking out one of his special boys, are there any tips I should remember?
I always keep eye contact, I always smile and I like being hit.. it's exciting and reminds me that I'm competing with someone.
I let my hands loose and I try to throw combinations rather than one jab so that I can catch my opponent and land a few hits, I'm not scared to commit to my attacks. I fake alot of punches to throw them off and decieve them, I also tap my head, chest with the thumbs of my gloves now and then as to distract my opponent. I'm always nice and loose and relaxed so that I can quickly fire off a nice fluid strike.
Anyone got any worthwhile tips for me? I train all the time and I've got a whole folder full of bookmarks on boxing articles and tips, I know I've got it inside me to be a fighter. I need some tips before I get in the ring wednesday when the guy is down there so that I can prove to him I'm a fighter and I got what it takes, I feel the burning inside and the urge to compete and prove myself.
I always try to stay close to my opponent in the danger zone and catch him with a few combinations/fakes.
