Default Miguel Cotto - Unluckiest fighter in history?

Rewind to early 2008. Miguel Cotto was as promising as they come. Having solid victories over names like Malignaggi, Judah and Mosley, he went on to face the big Mexican, Margarito. We all know what happened there, we can argue about whether or not Margarito (aka Margacheato) had hardened plaster in his gloves until the cows come home. Regardless, his hands needed to be re-wrapped multiple times before the Mosley fight, which shows that it was definitely a possibility in his previous fight, the biggest of his career at the time.

After a crushing defeat at the hands of Margarito, Cotto mustered up his strength and claimed victories over his next two opponents, despite being hampered by a very bad cut caused by a very unlucky headbutt early in the Clottey fight.

Next, he went on to face Pacquiao. Again, he faced defeat at the almost superhuman speed and strength of Pacman. Now, with recent accusations of steroid abuse, due to Pacquiao refusing more conclusive types of drug testing for the Mayweather fight, does it call into question those superhuman traits that caused Cotto his last lost?

If Cotto had forsaken his famed bravery, if he decided not to face the best in the business, if cheating was not heard of in this dirty sport, would he still be undefeated? Would his name be on top of the P4P list?
I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

I was thinking a similar thing earlier actually. If the Pacquiao rumours did indeed turn out to be true, then that would have to be the worst run of luck possible. There is no doubt that those two fights will have taken a lot out of Cotto, he dug in deep in both of them and took an awful lof of punishment. And then you factor in the Clottey fight where he was cut badly so early and again ground his way through.

Let's just hope that Manny isn't on anything. It would be so cruel to find out he had been beaten by a cheater yet again. It doesn't bear thinking about.

    Interesting post bud

As a Pac fan i would be gutted and hugely disappionted if this were the case, but on the other hand it may help explain his demolition of Hatton

As for Cotto, would this help his mental state to climb back through the ropes for another tilt at a title if it were proved to be the case

As much as it may help his mental state (or eat away at it :P), he took a LOT of physical punishment in those fights (as miles pointed out, he had to dig deep to even make it to the championship rounds). While he may stick around for a bit longer, I'm not sure he'll still be able to compete at the super-elite level.

I'm a big Cotto fan and if the accusations about Pacquiao are true (or even if they are left unproven - like Margarito's gloves), it'll absolutely crush my faith in the sport. Unless things change drastically, professional boxing will probably loose a fan in me.

I hear what ya saying bro,

Cotto also ranks high on my fave fighters list and to see that happen to him was hard to watch, yet i also had great respect for Manny to do what he done against two of the best LWW's and WW's in todays game in Hatton and Cotto.

I personally still dont understand that if Manny is willing to take the test the day after the fight whats all the hoo-har

Marg fight did ruin him if Marg cheated for that fight. Cotto could have done more, he would have beaten Shane in a rematch and Clottey far more convincingly but do not think he would have beaten Pac but it would have been an exciting and more even fight.

I still wish Cotto-Hatton had happened....that would have been a big fight and just an all out brawl

Manny Pacquiao Drug Test Results made Public!

Some have questioned if Manny Pacquiao fights clean or if he is on some kind of Steroid or enhancement. Well it can be put to rest that Pacquiao was not on any drugs, enhancements or steroids when he faced Miguel Cotto.

CNN.SI is reporting and confirming that Pacquiao has tested clean for drugs and steroids after his stunning victory over Cotto. Pacquiao who defeated Cotto with a 12rd TKO has been unfairly targeted by some who claim his performances must be due to steroids or some sort of illegal substance.

According to CNN.SI's reporting, Keith Kizer the director of the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission) confirmed that Pacquiao took 2 urine tests that were taken from him before and after his fight with Cotto. The urine came back negative, showing that there was no steroids or illegal substances to be found in Pacquiao's system. Bottom line, Pacquiao fought a clean fight.

Also to further prove Pacquiao is a clean fighter who is not relying on steroids or enhancements, Kizer confirmed this was the 10th test Pacquiao has had done over the years in Nevada... he passed each and every test.

So there you have it folks, the next time someone tries and tells you that Pacquiao takes Steroids... you tell them the Nevada State Athletic Commission disagrees and has numerous tests to back that up. Pacquiao is clean!

Anyway. Nevada state athletic commission tested Manny Pacquiao negative. If you have doubt in the NSAC please feel free to insult them.

interesting how? what has Cotto been unlucky with lol

magarito beat the shit out of him, even if he did have hand wraps on that wasnt what beat cotto, what beat him was the simple fact that he was to stupid to change his fight, maga took ecerything cotto could throw and cotto as always tired and this time quit, was NOTHING to do with maga's hands at all lol whata fucking joke to bring that up.

and as for pac, again cotto couldn't change or been focused enough to win that fight. when he boxed he was winning, but he tried ot tade and was to slow, didn't learn from it and got fucked up

unlcuky my ass, fucking lucky is more like it he got to where he is now be fighitng and getting a rep from beating overrated fighter... look ad paulie, people give him props and an ok hatton beat the shit out of him... torres give him hell and he is fuck all...

his only good win was against shane and shane was screwed for stamina after a few rounds (a fight i thought was a draw anyhow)
