Default At least the "Wlad Klitschko is a good role model" myth has bit the dust

Saturday has proved once and for all that the dumb idea that Wlad is somehow a great role model for the sport of boxing is a crock of sh*t. He is famous for his day job. Whilst at work he ignores the rules, displays no respect for the integrity of the sport and pushes the idea of gamesmanship right out of the envelope. That is on top of the krap that he and his brother pull in paying their opponents derisory sums etc. Vitali is nowhere near as smug as Wlad but the pair are pretty insufferable and fast destroying the glamour division.

Are there ANY real role models in boxing? I'll take a well educated, articulate gentleman who occasionally holds and wrestles way too much over the usual woman beating, drug abusing, violent thugs that boxing attracts.

That misses the point. Boxing like life is populated by all sorts those who have turned their lives around and those beyond redemption. I was merely pointing out the abject hypocrisy of praising somebody for behaving well outside of their day job whilst ignoring the rules at work. In a job that is carried out in public in front of millions for millions it is not very respectable to act like a coward and a cheat when you already have everything tipping the balance in your favour. He does not have to be a role model but let's not pretend that he is.

Lennox Lewis is not a role model. He was a far better, more entertaining and braver boxer than Wlad though.

Erroneous.....DID HE BOX WITHIN THE RULES

    SURVEY SAYS NO

But as he didn't get called on it, I don't begrudge him his success....but YOU you DO begrudge Wlad his success and that's wrong.

Well... Lewis was pretty much a "Grab and jab" guy himself. I've rarely seen him bring excitement to the table. Not more than Wlad and if so, really not more significantly.

Once again, I'll say that excessive holding in an occasional fight is a minor offense compared to the standard behaviour we've seen from other boxers.

If Wlad can't be a role model, I'd be interested in hearing who you think is a role model in boxing?

Katie Taylor, Barry McGuigan, Scott Quigg, GGG, Mikell Kesseller, Vitali, Pacman. The list goes on. A lot of good role models in boxing.

And Vitali? The guy who got busted for steroids and thrown off the Ukrainian olympic team?

Not at all. It is you who is bitter and unwilling to debate. You have classed every one who does not subscribe to your own myopic view as a hater. Many started off on Saturday night surprisingly finding themselves behind Wlad hoping that he would deliver the goods and expose Povetkin and ended up the evening with no option but to shake their heads in disappointment. Wlad disgraced himself and left any real boxing fan with little option. You are in the minority because you backed yourself into a corner not because everyone else is bitter. You are entitled to your opinion but please do not be so quick to label anyone who disagrees as a hater. You are better than that.

I called them haters and RIGHTFULLY SO!

When Ricky Hatton mauls someone and the ref does nothing it's "Well done Ricky, atta way!"

When Ricky gets called to task about his style it's "Booo ref boooooo!"

When Lennox Lewis did EVERYTHING that Wlad did it's "Lennox Lewis is a great champion never say his name in the same breath as Wladimir Klitschko"

You are a hater, you and every other fan who has been complaining about Wladimir or the ref.

I am pragmatic in my views and steadfast in them. If the ref calls foul then it's a foul, if not then it's not a foul. I am realistic about "fairness" in life. There were things Povetkin could do to try and "level the field" IF he thought he was being wronged (but by his statements he said he hadn't been wronged).

Keep whining about it I have read 0 from you or anyone else on Anthony Joshua's holding and hitting....you DO know that's illegal right?

I'm being consistent which is why I win the argument, you're playing favorites and that is why your argument is flawed and that is why you lose.

I certainly aint a Wlad hater but u cant deny that the ref was shocking in that fight. Wlad was jumping in from a distance just to lean on Povetkin.

Agree Joshuas holding and hitting was filthy. Ill give him the benefit of the doubt that it was his debut.

Calling a foul is up to the discretion of a referee. If he's not calling it then it's not happening.

I think one of the reasons the holding Wlad was doing wasn't called is that it isn't a kind of foul that further endangers the life of a fighter. It's not like a rabbit punch, a low blow, headbutt, or following through with an elbow.

I don't fault Joshua for holding and hitting at all...when you want to do damage to someone you'll ATTEMPT anything, he corrected himself after the warning.
