He also knows how Joe matches with Lockett...for goodness sakes, they are part of the same squad.
And when he grabbed that white towel and tossed it, his wheels were turning and you could see it in his eyes, but not anywhere in the direction of a fight with Kelly that he maybe was looking for, not with what he witnessed. Can't say as I blame him.
Nope. He does not want his son going out a loser, and not with the threat of a punishment in the process. A win over Pavlik would have silenced every doubter, and been a healthy box office draw. Have made his legacy complete...and THEN he could go fight another old guy....aka RJJ and take another big money fight with less risk.
But he saw what we all saw...what Kelly Pavlik is capable of, so shortened Joe's trip to retirement. I think it was a smart move. I would have respected the decision. It made sense. Just too bad they lacked class in the process by trying say Kelly wasn't good enuff. HA!
That is the only reason us who like Kelly have our feathers ruffled. We weren't calling Joe a ducker, or anything of the sort...until their camp opened their mouth with such foolishness.
So yea, whatever Joe and Enzo. Bawk Bawk. Go fight your old man fight and retire, and good luck.
spot on fella
sure enzo is joes coach but he is also joes father and putting him in at this late stage of his career with a man who he has seen at first hand has the ability to really hurt someone just isnt gonna happen.
Remember enzo screaming at lockett between rounds to stop fighting in straight lines the very sort of thing he is often telling joe. Once that towel went in enzo not only forfeited the fight for the sake of gary lockett but also sacrificed any potential meeting between kelly and joe.
As for warren:
The guys the most succesful british promoter of the last 20 odd years, you cant knock him for that.
But i`ll always remember him as the man who held calzaghe back year after year yet jumped at the opportunity to put bruno back in with tyson knowing full well what mike was capable of

one dangerous horrible bloke
