Did you miss Riddick Bowe getting outjabbed and outslicked by an old past his prime Tony Tubbs ? he gave Riddick Bowe a boxing lesson and Riddick Bowe was in his prime.......
Even Tyrell Biggs badly outjabbed Riddick Bowe and even had him badly stunned in the 3rd round and also look how he struggled with Evander Holyfield's outside fighting in there 2nd fight........
Or see how a man who was similar size to him Andrew Golota destroyed Riddick Bowe's jab even Riddick Bowe said it totally threw him off his game.........
Riddick Bowe always struggled with fighters who fought on the outside or fighters who had good jabs i think you need to watch the Tony Tubbs fight and see how a fat past his prime Tony Tubbs totally outboxed Riddick Bowe and should of won the decision quite easily but was robbed........
Alot of people actually have never seen Riddick Bowe's fights with Tyrell Biggs and Tony Tubbs but trust me when you see them your have a different opinion on Riddick Bowe a prime Larry Holmes who totally slaughtered Earnie Shavers in there 1st meeting would have gave Riddick Bowe a boxing lesson.
I don't really see what your trying to say every great fighter has had trouble with fighters they shouldn't have hell why don't you check up on Sugar Ray Robinson he was knocked down plenty of times by lesser fighters and got a few gift decisions he didn't deserve........
I think Larry Holmes took Mike Weaver lightly and to be honest that is understandable considering he just beat Ken Norton and Earnie Shavers and had just knocked down Ossie Ocasio with a LEFT JAB.......
The Mike Weaver fight was just meant to be a stepping stone for Larry Holmes next fight which was rematch with Earnie Shavers which was massive at the time because Earnie Shavers had just beaten Ken Norton in one round.........
And many people thought Earnie Shavers was an improved fighter but unfortunately for Larry Holmes he had bad off night against Mike Weaver and Mike Weaver fought the best fight of his life he did hurt Larry Holmes in the 4th, 10th, and early in the 11th where Larry Holmes look tired from obviously not training.........
Because if you watch his fights he always had amazing stamina and always pulled it out in the later rounds especially against Gerry Cooney Ken Norton Carl Williams but yes Larry Holmes was in trouble but he was still pretty comfortably ahead on points in my opinion but he set up a beautiful uppercut and really dug deep to win that fight and thats what real champions do.........
I've never seen Wladimir Klitschko ever really dig deep in fights except against Samuel Peter but he mostly dominated that fight except for the bullshit rabbit shot knockdowns in which only one of those knockdowns should of counted technically.
The other thing
Spoon was a GREAT fighter in the wrong era,and for some reason Snipes is grossly underrated,he had some serious chops in his prime. If you really want the full measure of Holmes, watch him figure out where his baby makers are against Cooney, and turn around and whup him
Lyle Renaldo Snipes never come close to beating Larry Holmes, i've asked Larry Holmes himself about the punch he was knocked down with against Renaldo Snipes.
And he said he was caught sleeping/over confident and as soon as he was knocked down. He knew he had to take him out and he did, 20 seconds after that knockdown he had already recovered and had Renaldo Snipes hurt.
Except for that brief moment Renaldo Snipes was dominated throughout most of the fight, and against Tim Witherspoon. Well Tim Witherspoon was a heck of a fighter as at his best who was very similar to Ken Norton. No shame in having a close fight with Tim Witherspoon probably one of the most skilled Heavyweights, who never achieved what he should have very similar to Riddick Bowe.
And Lyle are you kidding about Earnie Shavers ? he put everything into that overhand right against Larry Holmes. Thats one of the hardest punches i've ever seen, Larry Holmes hit the canvas with a thump for crying out loud. If your trying to say that wasn't one of the most devastating shots ever, then i really don't know what to say.
If Wladimir Klitschko had been hit with that shot he would of left the ring in a stretcher, and the fact that it only took 4 seconds for Larry Holmes to get up, was incredible and shows how good his recovery powers were.

I like Larry Holmes as a fighter but as a man he is a real piece of s**t. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
For a guy who strung together so many title victories, he was decidedly unpopular. And he did take a lot of racial crap, especially leading up to the Cooney fight, So I don't blame the guy for being a little bitter.
