Before a million Mayweather/Marquez threads pop-up, and also considering this fight is only scheduled for 2 months from now, i figured i'd shift gears from this past weekend and look forward..
How much credit would Mayweather get if he defeats JMM?
A lot of people will go through his resume and discredit every win that Mayweather has and say that he's dodged the best and taken the easy road out with his decision of opposition.. I can already see it now if he beats JMM, saying that JMM moved up too high in weight, and that he keeps picking on smaller guys, etc..
Marquez's last two fights were at 135 i believe, and he TKO'd someone who has never been stopped before in Casamayor (granted he's getting older..) and stopped Juan Diaz.. After the Diaz fight, there were threads on here asking if JMM was #1 p4p after that, and there was very much debate over him vs Pacquaio for that title..
So, the question really is, at what weight class will Floyd get the most credit for taking this fight, and potentially winning this fight?
From what i've read, a catch weight of 143 is in talks.. that's still an 8lb weight gain for Marquez..
Also, i know that Floyd fought more than the majority of his years at 130-135 and i'm not ignoring that, but that is something that is ALWAYS ignored when saying "Floyd picks on the smaller fighters"..
Thoughts?..
