Not as much than if he beat Pac. Difference is that Pac puts on the weight that much better, Marquez's wins at 135 (especially Diaz) did really seem to reach the limit of how high he could go, the usually light punching Diaz bothered him a lot and bullied him round the ring with his size.

Bottom line is that Marquez is unproven above 135, while Pac is and their will be that question mark next to Floyd's W.

That's true.. Having never fought over 135, Mayweather is a very very tough opponent to step up to.. Marquez is a tough smart fighter, but there is something to be said of a small guy going in against a bigger stronger man.. And it's hard to say he has a big advantage in any one area that really would make up for a possible big size difference....

The weight hasn't been set though, and if it's at 140 it certainly makes it a lot better.. Every pound above that is adding more unknown quantity to Marquez ability to carry his goods up and bring everything he has..

If he wins easy he wont get much credit. He was obviously far too big for Marquez.

Like Bomp said, Marquez was rocked by the relatively light punching Diaz. That can't bode well for him up in weight and class.

I wasn't really comparing this fight to Pac, as far as i'm concerned, he's fighting JMM and if he wins he fights Pac.. it's not like he's choosing JMM over Pac..

Was just curious of thoughts on this fight mainly regarding weight.. I still don't know how i feel about it.. It's tough, because as i said, a number of people were voting JMM for top p4p after the Diaz fight, but even still, going from 135-143(give or take a few lbs) is a decent gain.. Considering Mayweather was catching flack for fighting "the smaller" Hatton, I can't see PBF getting too much praise if he beats JMM.. But, in the same respect, it's impossible to call it a "tune-up" fight considering JMM's skill.. Regardless i'm still excited to see PBF back in the ring..

I'm sure the reason he picked JMM was to eventually get to face Pac later on, I didn't mention Pac in a sense to accuse Floyd of avoiding him (he had no reason to before sat night ). I mentioned him as I'm sure when Floyd beats JMM people will say he did so easily compared to Pac, but IMO the weight is much more of a factor for JMM than it is to Pac and will make the fight a huge uphill task for him.

Who Pac fights next is the real dilemma, Mosely/Cotto would be huge risks at 147 and would ultimately jeopardise the Floyd/Pac fight everyone wants to see.

Agreed.. the good thing is that Floyd is only fighting two months away.. Which actually surprises me because keeping the past in mind, Floyd usually has 5-6 months between announcing he's fighting, and actually fighting.. This is good because i think it is a short enough of an amount of time for Pac to just sit back and see what happens instead of scheduling another fight right away..

plus cotto has his clottey fight coming up, assuming that is still on? I would think Mosley is too big for Pac and if Pac took that fight he would show HUGE b@lls.. same with a cotto fight..

Pac/Floyd is the biggest fight that can be made in boxing today, and it needs to be done.. Granted Pac has been KO'd before, but it's been quite some time since Pac has been in much trouble in a fight.. and obviously Floyd has never really been hurt besides a few, scarce, memorable moments. The fight would be CRAZY..

PBF even said "He's (JMM) a good small man, but I'm a great big man"

So the answer is pretty much... NO, PBF he will not get that much credit (not unless he KO's JMM in 1st round imo).

PBF and his fans must not look at this as a walk-in-the-cake fight.

I think JMM poses more of a threat to PBF than any of his past opponents. JMM won't be star struck by PBF's skill, he's a tough fighter who is very smart and cunning in the ring, he's a hard worker and will make PBF EARN a W which not a lot of fighters have done recently.

Sure JMM is smaller and he hasn't carried the power very well yet but I think he's well suited to give PBF problems.

Floyd gets respect in my book for coming back and not taking a warmup fight, this is a fight Floyd can lose, I doubt he does but he very well could lose the fight

Well we know Larry Merchant wouldnt give him any credit lol at his Cherry picking comment on Saturday haha

The worst or best senario(for some) would be Floyd stops Marquez
brutally aka one punch knock out, he then fights Manny straight after
and knocks out Manny brutally in a similar fashion and then calls it a day and declares himself as the G.O.A.T

We wouldnt hear the end of it but he would definetly deserve a ton of credit if this were to happen.

People can call me a hater or whatever, but I know damn well I don't want Floyd Mayweather Jr. to retire undefeated.

I hope to God Floyd gets KO'd!

I hope Floyd is either iced out cold or that he pulls a Zab Judah/Trevor Berbick/Montel Griffin and staggers around the ring looking like a Giraffe on rollerskates.

I would get the most schadenfruede out of seeing Floyd take a prolonged beating at the hands of Miguel Cotto. A beating so bad his Uncle warns that he'll stop the fight, and in the end Floyd is beaten, bloodied, and humbled infront of millions of fans
