Although most people predicted a Pacquiao win over Margarito, it must've been somewhat of a shock to most people (as it was to me) to watch Pacquiao systematically dismantle a man almost twice his size (at least it seemed that way). Margarito is a big welterweight... he could fight much higher... and Pacquiao is a blown-up lightweight. It was the proverbial David vs. Goliath battle. To watch Pac destroy Margo in that manner was simply amazing. And Pacquiao took some shots as well. The ropes were not his friend. But all the credit in the world to Pacquiao. The guy is simply amazing!
All that being said, the ball is now on Mayweather's court. Oh... he and his fans will continue to spout off on how Floyd is really the world's best fighter pound-for-pound... but the arguments are starting to ring hollow. Oh... "Floyd is quicker, faster, boxes better, has better defense... blah, blah, blah." It's time to either shet or get off the pot. Pacquiao has far exceeded anyone's expectations of him. When he beat De La Hoya... DLH was over-the-hill. When he demolished Hatton... Hatton was overrated (he was). But when he TKO'ed Cotto... personally I began to think... "This is a true phenomenom of boxing." Then he takes on the 5' 11" Margarito and beats him to a pulp.
What has Mayweather done? First... he comes off a self-imposed retirement and beats up a woefully undersized JMM. Then, in what was admittedly an impressive showing, he shutout the ATG Mosley. But to even the most casual observer, it was obvious that Mosley seemed to age overnight. After tagging Floyd in the 2nd round of the fight, he seemed to take the rest of the fight off. What the hell happened, I don't know.
So if you're keeping score... who's got the upper hand in the p4p argument? IMO, it's Manny, hands down. Floyd, well known for his yapping and his posturing, needs to get off his high horse and challenge Pacquiao outright. Until then, the majority of fans are siding with Manny in the p4p argument.
