He would have got away with that with most of the more competent referees. From what I have been reading on the forums most think the deduction was flawed and I am in total agreement. A warning would have been enough. However, IF he had hit Khan in the face then for sure take away the point.

Having said that, as one of Khan's most vociferous critics, I too would like to come out openly and say that I too have been won over somewhat because of this fight. I have always said I want to see him in there with a puncher and he did that. It wasn't perfect, but he did take a lot of clean punches in there and that shot in the 10th might very well have been the end, but he stuck in there and wouldn't let himself go down. I wanted him to, but he didn't. Khan has heart. He might not have the chin, but he has the heart to stand up when the chin has been checked.

I cannot call myself a fan, but I give respect when I think it has been earned and Khan earned a lot in this fight. I will always criticise the Barrera fight and the pointless matchups like Salita, but this was better from Khan and when a fighter goes to the well and wins you have to give credit. At the same time though, I think Maidana caused most of the damage and for that he deserves a lot of credit too. Khan was the obvious favourite and yet Maidana showed that as crude slugger he could deal with that movement and speed fairly well. And he deserves his share of respect.

That's because there are a lot of stupid and uninformed Khan haters on the internet Miles. It was an intentional foul. Are you, the great moral guardian of integrity and fair conduct actually saying that a person should only be punished for an intentional misdeed if they successfully pull it off? Surely not!

What about a politician who gets caught when he falsely claims for a mortgage allowance on a property he has already cleared the mortgage on, or an angry student who hurls a fire exstinguisher from the top of a building at a police officer below but misses. Should they be let off because their intentional crimes were unsuccessful?

Oh the hypocrisy
Yeah, very interesting and mildly amusing...but I will only engage about politics on the other board. I keep asking you to do the same, but you just cannot help yourself. I like debating with you Bilbo, but let's keep to the topic at hand and that is Amir Khan.

I think in terms of boxing where morality is not always the strongest guiding factor in the sport, that we have to make allowances sometimes. Combatants have a will to win and sometimes they will do silly things. Maidana did a silly thing. I have never once denied this, but it didn't harm Khan and in fact would have had no bearing on the fight had Cortez not taken the point away.

If we are to make boxing a moral sport then we should be taking points off of lots of fighters. Wlad Klitschko who sees himself as a modern day John Ruiz should be docked for clinching. Hopkins should be docked for use of the head etc. But they aren't. And yet it's okay to dock Maidana for poking Cortez in the chest one time? It just wasn't neccessary.
