Jan Zaveck vs. Andre Berto fight thread - on HBO tonight

Some idiot on Primetime just said Berto's in the Pacman, Mayweather tier.

I dont think anybody thinks Berto is as good as Manny or Floyd but clearly he's amongst that elite group of fighters good enough to be considered an opponent for them.

He's absolutely one of the best fighters from 140-154 and therefore right in the mix for a fight with either,

It's just hating to suggest otherwise.

I just said exactly what they said... he's on the level of those two.... which he isn't.

I didn't say he shouldn't be in the mix to fight either of them, I didn't really have a problem with him having a title shot tonight. Although it does IMO at least show the gulf in class between Floyd and Pac, and the rest of the division.

I agree I give him virtually no chance against Floyd, and a punchers chance early against Manny at best.

There was nothing wrong with him getting a title shot right away though, imo it was necessary for boxing to maintain credibility, He defended his title 5 times and is clearly the best fighter in the weight class after Manny and Ortiz (and Floyd when he returns).

To have made him wait and earn a shot at Zavek's title behind some other lesser guy would have been farcical. I think he proved that point in his victory tonight.

I understand it... Somtimes theres an automatic rematch in the contract... somtimes there isn't but they will still be granted one,I dont see the difference between that and a title shot at a different title tbh, especially as there isn't as many name fighters as there were a few years ago. Even though he's ended up losing Zaveck is probably happier he took this fight than say.. well anyone else who was available.
