RJJ is top 10 p4p all time IMO, but a risk taker he was not and a good resume he does not have.
Joe was great in his own right and I refuse these days to rule him out against anybody in terms of a straight up matchup, Joe has the confidence and intangibles coupled with a ridiculous self belief. He had a decent chin and great work rate and that is a strong equalizer.

I wouldnt mind seeing Calzaghe these days if he was a few years younger

Thank's JT Rock it seem's to me Joe doe's get's a lot of stick, and i do think he has done a lot for boxing it a bit like Floyd some love some hate. The more people get into boxing the better it's good for us as fan's and good for the sport.

I used to slag off Calzaghe until he beat my boy Lacy down. I think he gets the flack from not fighting Jones and Hopkins until they are old. But hey aside from that he was a great champion did his thing and got out at the right time.

Now he prefers a bit of blow instead of Boxing

Ok let's not get carried away. I can understand you being a big fan. Even a groupie. That's fine. But seriously what the fuck has Joe Calzaghe ever done for the sport of boxing? The man has always put his own interests first. Do I blame him for it? No. But facts are facts.

I am just a fan and JOE is one of many fighter's, which i like not just JOE and in Wales he did have a big fan base. and he had been a boxer for many year's man and boy.You could not say he did not have a great record, and a lot of fan's,And if people dont like Joe that's up to them but just as i have a dislike for B Hopp it's no big deal.

I remembered the other guy who you'd have to rate above JC at SM - Nigel Benn. Man that guy was another level, he destroyed America's best when they were prime not when they were pensioned. And even though he lost to a prime Eubank, that Eubank was a LOT more dangerous back in his pre-Watson era than when the points win preferring one who fought JC. JC is lucky he wasnt around when he rose to the top in Britain, end of his undefeated record early on.

On the other hand maybe that wouldnt have happened, Joe might simply have waited till Nigel Benn was 40.

naaa Nigel Benn was something else at his prime. Watson was a clever boxer not a slappy chap, thats why he beat a young Benn - you couldnt beat Benn by slapping he would just storm right in and connect. But prime Benn would take down prime Watson. Lucky for JC he retired, if pensioners could drop him then Benn would have dropped him round after round.

But I have to agree that JC would have always had a longer career than Benn, as he has proved, he was a lot fitter for longer plus smarter in that sense that knew how to pick nobodies and elongate his title years rather than face the best from the beginning like Benn did. Benn would have already have fought RJJ, Bhop, Froch and Sven a decade ago, and at their peaks, if he had been born in JC's generation. No fear. A real man.

Jones was at his "peak" when Benn was.

Arguably so was Hopkins. But he was a nobody back then.

Well, Benn was past his peak by 1996 when RJJ was reaching the top, and Benn wouldnt have qualified for fighting him then.

If you are referring to my post, I was talking about if JC and Benn had been born in the same generation.

prime RJJ would take prime Benn, mind you. Benn wouldnt be able to cope with Roy'sreflexes, which must have been inherited from aliens or cassius clay, his reflexes coudnt have been human.

Jones reached the top before 96.

A Benn-Jones fight was seriously discussed around 95/96. However, boxing politcs prevented it from happening.
