Marg is still a competitive fighter he has only lost to the best. He does not have to admit he padded his gloves it can be seen in his performances. Also if he did not realise his trainer was padding his gloves then how can he be certain they were not padded in the first fight with Cotto. There is no need for a third fight at all.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

Very very good point here. It goes both ways for Margo when he used this excuse. Doesn't hold up under scrutiny IMO. He can't definitively say he never cheated when we look at this main excuse of his.

On topic, don't think the eye issue would have made any difference since I don't see Cotto being in the same state that he was in their first fight during the later rounds. He had Margo's number with or without the eye issue.

forget plaster possibility for the first fight and forget the eye in the 2nd fight; Cotto did a few things different which seemed to be making a difference. He needs to thank Manny Steward and Diaz for the things they have done for him.

Steward(technical things he had Cotto focus on in camp and for their 2 fights together):
got Cotto to change slightly how he holds his hands in a defensive position. He used to have his elbows bowed out funny and it left him susceptible to uppercuts.

got Cotto in his 2 fights to have his feet less squared up.

got Cotto to not lean so far forward in close (leaving him susceptible to uppercuts).

got Cotto to stop doing the weird deep knee bends

    Diaz
made sure Cotto didn't go straight back, rather always moved away laterally
had Cotto in great physical condition

The eye saved Margarito. People can blame something for his loss other than just getting beaten by the better man.

Margarito's carreer, beginning when he started to have the greatest success, must be questioned. He is 1-3 since discovery and found guilty thus suspended. He knockedout Sergio Martinez in 2000. I would start there.

Does Margarito and Cepetillo strike you as smart people who can get away with plasters for 10 years?

When fighters are getting their hands wrapped, commision members and opposing camp members are there to watch the whole thing, it's their job..

It's ludacrious to think that they loaded their gloves for a decade..

for a decade no...but for the biggest fight of his career, wouldn't doubt it for a minute, especially given the results after being found out
