Rigondeaux has waaaay too much in the way of amatuer instincts. His reaction time, punch selection and all that is great, he just disappears for long periods though. Where's his one nuthugger? Who was that?

At any rate he should win this pretty comfortably. Ramos won't be able to do anything until the final rounds, but I don't think he'll be able to land anything meaningful. I hope I'm wrong, I think a loss would turn Rigondeaux into an excellent pro.

The Ramos - Rigondeaux card starts tonight in about 3 1/2 hours or @ 11:00 PM ET here in North America. Since it's on SHOBOX, i'm sure they'll show at least one undercard fight, the main event may not start until midnight ET.

    Jan. 20
At Las Vegas (Showtime): Rico Ramos vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux, 12 rounds, for Ramos' WBA junior featherweight title
; Guy Robb vs. Joel Diaz, 8 rounds, junior lightweights; Matt Villanueva vs. Michael Ruiz Jr., 6 or 8 rounds, junior bantamweights; Javier Molina vs. TBA, 6 or 8 rounds, welterweights.

I just hope its a good fight.

I'm getting ready to go over to the Palms for the fights in a little bit!! I'm so glad that there happened to be fights during the time I was coming here to Vegas. I never get to go to fights in bumfuck Ohio.

I know. The most annoying thing is that both HBO and Showtime don't play the HD versions of their fights live on the West Coast, so it will start at 11pm (also 2am ET). I could watch it in non-HD live as early as 8pm, but that looks pretty crappy on a 50-inch screen.

It's especially annoying because whatever they're playing at 8pm in HD (a movie) is available 24/7 on OnDemand anyway.

This all but assures I'll already be drunk by the time the undercard starts and will be lazy about scoring the fights.

At least HBO has an east coast feed.

But not an HD one. Unless you're on the East Coast (I assume).

West coast will see it on tape delay. It is being shown live at 11:00 Eastern Time. So west coasters, find a stream to watch it at 8:00 PT.

The card starts here at 6:00.

Heading out the door. See ya there.

    Have fun!

But I'm going to wait the three hours so it doesn't look like crap. Nowhere near desperate enough to watch a crappy stream on a laptop when I'm paying for Showtime HD on a big plasma screen. I'll just avoid the coverage and commentary in the meantime.

SHOBOX usually does that when a fight is in Vegas or the West Coast, i'm in CST, so the card starts @ 10:00 PM here. The main may be good enough to stay up for.

No I know no HD, but at least I can watch it. Showtime I have no option at all. I'm in Arizona so we're on MT right now.

Just watched 4 Rigondeaux fights. The opposition wasn't much, but he looks pretty good. A very very good amateur fighter; being around people like Roach and Jesse Reid, he has a good chance of someday being a good pro, too, though with 400 amateur fights, I'm sure he has a lot of habits that they try to break him of.
I think he gets away with a lot because of his speed and southpaw style, at least in the fights that I saw. He also leaves his chin up in the air, wide open, when he throws that left hand bolo punch to the body. He moves to his left a lot, trying to stay in front to throw that punch.

That right there is my biggest concern we're not talking about someone in their early 20s. He did get caught in the last fight I watched him in and got dropped for the first time. I really think he got into the pro game too late and is gonna get blasted out in some fight, I certainly don't think Ramos is the man to do it.

Alrighty here we go boxing fans, Bernstein, Tarver and Gerbil Farhood calling the action for Showtime, first up Matt Villanueva vs. Michael Ruiz Jr., 6 or 8 rounds, junior bantamweights. (a triple header)

My choice of beer for tonights fights: ice cold Shiner Bock, brewed @ the Spoetzl Brewery right here in beautiful Shiner, Texas.

Diane is at the fight, maybe she'll wave to us.
