    Exactly...thats my point

Paq is good for boxing but has been pampered and set up to accomplish brilliance by catch weighting and getting some of his opponents to make weight to accomodate success and cheat the fans in to believing some false miracle

job biscuit (De La Hoya had to lose weight to fight Paq...and this hurt him)!!!

    eh eh!!!

To be clear, the Oscar De La Hoya fight was not at a catchweight and in that fight Pacquiao came up from 135 and De La Hoya came down from 154 to 147. Also, the oddsmakers in Vegas had De La Hoya 2-1 favorite in that fight and many posters here on saddo's even had De La Hoya the prohibitive favorite.

Please realize that catch-weight fights didn't begin with Pacquiao. Many of boxing's greatest have fought at catchweights. In fact, Bernard Hopkins has fought in more catch-weight fights than Manny Pacquiao. Hopkins earned arguably his biggest wins--Kelly Pavlik & Oscar De La Hoya--at catchweights. He also fought Winky Wright and John Davis Jackson at catchweights.

Sugar Ray Leonard made Donny Lalonde come down to 168 in a fight for Lalonde's light heavyweight title.

Julio Cesar Chavez fought Meldrick Taylor at 145 for the welterweight title.

Roy Jones Jr. fought Felix Trinidad at 170 pounds.

I'm not taking a stand on catch-weights either way, but to say that Manny Pacquiao is the king of catchweights is erroneous. As far as I know, he has fought three fights at catchweight: Cotto, Margarito and JMM. The only fight of those where I felt the weight favored Pacquiao was against Cotto.

Exactly, Margarito fighting at a catchweight of 150 was to Margarito's advantage as he was previously at 147 and was allowed 3 extra pounds.

Catchweights have always been in the sport, and aren't really unfair on the bigger guy imo. They merely serve to offset the massive unfair advantage the bigger fighter has by no longer having to weigh in the same day.

No fighter has ever actually had to fight Manny weighing less than the championship weight limit, they merely need to hit that weight limit for one minute of the day 24 hours before the fight. By fight night they are usually 10 lbs heavier.

Some fights needs to be made at any cost. But I agree, catchweight should be a non-title fight only.

Fights that need to be made . . .
    1. Martinez vs Ward. Martinez has don't really fit as a middleweight. So for him to go up to 168 will probably kill him. Ward been at 168 almost his while career. I even think he fought over 168. So getting down to 160 will kill him. 164 is the middle ground.

    2. Martinez vs Mayweather. No catchweight IMO, but a meet in the middle at 154 should work.

CAtchweights that should never have been.
    Pacman vs Cotto
    Pacman vs JMM
I simply don't understand those catchweight fights

As far as Mosley vs Khan, Mosley said he won't drop past 147. So Khan needs to come all the way up to 147. Besides Shane's power, Khan should win at any weight. If Shane hit Khan the way he hit Floyd, GOODNIGHT!!!!

Ant makes a good point in that catch weights are somewhat suspect when they are used as an advantage for one of the participants, but make more sense when used as the only way to make a fight. There is no reason for Floyd to face Martinez at 150 other than to have an advantage over Martinez because Floyd has fought at 154 with success in the past. There was no reason for Pacquiao to fight Cotto at 145 either for that matter.
