He is the money marker and will be protected until they're sure. It would be stupid to throw him in with the big dogs right away.
I would be quite happy if they matched him with Alvarado for a first fight at 140. Not the best fight for him at 140 but for an initial dip into the weight, that's a great match up.

I still think he'll probably fight a bit at 135 before moving up anyway though.

Agreed. You would think he would at least want to grab one of those trinkets at 135 just for historical purposes. Agree on Alvarado also as a good dip in the pool.

Its all assuming he actually 'makes' weight. I just don't see him stopping at 135 and he's already shown that trinkets and titles are meaningless by just dumping in on the scale. He and Rios remind me alot of each other only way they meet is at 140+. With training approach and attitude they almost deserve each other.

Right now I think its extremely premature to be crowning him the next great thing, especially as hes in new territory. Everyone breathe 1 2 3..I saw a Ponce Deleon touch him enough to deserve a nod and his nerve has yet to really be tested and for that matter his chin tapped. He needs to fight a live mutual body. If he actually trains and meets a solid 135 DeMarco would be a fun fun fight. Until hes proven he can beat that class I pick DeMarco..as well as Marquez in the short term via school lessons at 135-140. Alvarado has a frontal one dimensional and inviting style that would suit Broner well but is at least fresh, undefeated and equal weight.

I still dodnt understand how he got annointed the next great thing...I to saw ponce beating him. I understand hbo catering to the big names but hell broner ain't a name yet and I'm pretty sure if you asked non boxing fans in his hometown they wouldn't know who the fuck he is. Then again the next great thing often doesn't work out, hell I remember espn or hbo telling me tha gamboa will be a megastar in a year, two years ago. His attitude or ego is going to get him, marquez beats him every day of the week, would love to see lucas get a shot at him. Boxing is fucked up lucas always comes to fight , professional yet you don't see him get catered to by hbo/showtime instead you see him get the shaft twice in hometown decisions. Before someone says broner is good for boxing and ill be watchin him to see him beat as many people will, not if there is another fight to watch on.

Amir Khan would have a nice time with him at 140lb and would indicate to us how Khan would fair against Floyd in Amir’s mind anyway.

There's no way GBP wants that fight for Kahn. The one guaranteed advantage for Kahn is usually his speed; Broner is faster than Kahn (not to mention much better defensively).

And there's no way Kahn ever gets (or deserves to get) a Floyd fight. I'm sure even he's ramped down his expectations at this point.

I hear all that you're saying but you've got to recognize why Adrian Broner, and not Lucas Matthyse, is the guy that HBO hypes. Big personality sells. And guys that are very fast, otherworldly athletic, and can pop are always the ones who are picked out as stars (Gamboa fits that bill too). Mattyse only has one of those characteristics; Broner has all three. Don't get me wrong, I really like Matthyse (and think he deserves to be undefeated) -- he's just not a mass market product like Broner clearly is, and is not as naturally gifted.
