Martinez might have the harder punch but will he ever connect?
Martenez will loose at welter and any catchweight. 160 is his best chance.
Floyd is no more than a welterweight and he already took a big risk by fighting cotto at his proper weight there is no reason to disadvantage himself against martinez who got his ass whooped by plaster boy margarito..

*Ur under estimating Mayweather. May might not want to just jump in the ring with certain fighters, but if the money's right... Martinez ,IMO..is more awekward than good. I think his power is over rated as well as his talent. He's good, but not great. When a good fighter meets greatness, greatness wins.

Yeah he lost 8 freaking years ago, that's like saying bhop and jmm lost to some no names in their debuts, really doesn't have much relevance. Especially in martinez case the dude had no amateur background and didn't start fighting till like 20, I'm not saying martinez beats mayweather, but would make for an entertaining fight.

What is the basis for this insinuation that Martinez is juiced? This thread is the first I've ever seen that suggested.

Martinez probably has the best chance of anyone in the sport presently of taking Mayweathers 0 and philosopher is right in that weight would be a key factor.

Having said that I just don't see Floyd losing at any weight. 147 would never happen and probably 154 also so maybe a catch for 160 but I don't see Floyd going for it. Floyd knows full well that if he accepted and offered catch weight for the 160 crown that he would be crucified by his haters for fighting a lessor version of Martinez. Floyd knows full well that he fights in the shadows of Robinson and Leonard.

Floyd's ability to judge and act on distance while closing his body off is w/o equal today. His straight right hand and various sometimes hybrid check hooks from the same side win the day. He can also do this off the back foot which is astonishing countering. Sure Floyd has had issues with southpaws in Corley and Judah but he figured in out and Martinez for all his speed at 160 is nowhere near the same end as those two.

The Mayweathers don't like southpaws and pretty much all of them outside of Floyd have said so publicly just like Tunney did. Its because Floyds (shell) or whatever TF you want to call it was developed for in large part other orthodox fighters. Darren Barker was just a little short and put up a tremendous show against Martinez. The man is easy to hit because he wants to engage more then defend himself. He simply will never catch up to Floyd like he did Barker.

People have made far to much out of Martinez's ko of Williams. A fellow southpaw who has no clue how to fight a fellow southpaw and a speedy recovery for him I hope for after the bike accident.

Sorry for the short story. Floyd wins this via a right hand marathon.

When you come right down to picking anyone over Floyd it gets difficult, but I like Martinez and want to see this fight happen. I think Martinez has as good chance.
