I've heard that alot from old school buds, about College and all. All I know is I wasted alot of time wasting time . Those are your prime yrs, ya cannot get them back.

After a year in college I realized that everything I thought I wanted to do upon graduating high school was garbage. The idea of college education = success kept me plugging along for 5 years being highly unmotivated. I had a lot of fun but I could have had the same fun and have been doing something constructive. I've done a better job educating myself since I finished school than a professor ever could.

I wish I had taken a year out instead of being churned into the university machine. I let myself down and really dismantled in my final year. Instead of upping the tempo of my studies, I was trying to earn money and was spending it on decadence. In the end it was all a waste. The only thing my degree gave me was the opportunity to move overseas.

My MA result was the product of me deciding to make amends and show that I was much better than my younger self. The results showed it. At the end of the day a professor can only do so much with the students available to him/her. If a student is unmotivated then they aren't going to learn well. At the same time though you have to make an effort to engage and I think a lot of so called academics are pretty poor teachers. They can write papers, but they know little about spicing a lesson up to get at least something fruitful going. It's a double edged sword.

Asides from my initial studies, I don't think I have any real regrets. Everything has got to this point and for better or for worse I am where I am today. I grumble, but I have life pretty much sorted. My work is the best it has ever been, I am comfortable, have a thin beautiful wife and don't work for almost half the year. I am my own worst enemy and have a few demons, but that is a work in progress. It's all okay really.
