Well if you want to distort the facts the other way, Hatton was Tszyu's 4th fight in 37 months, Hatton had zero fights in 42 months!! Tszyu's other 3 fights in that period he destroyed the 3 guys and the last fight was arguably his best. Don't remember any signs of decline from Tszyu, don't remeber the alcoholism, the drugs or the 75 pound weight gain!!

Jesus, Ricky Hatton didnt cry this much and he just got beat up by a guy he thought he'd wipe the floor with.

    Let it go already.
Oh it's been let go a long time ago, just a reminder of some of the hysteria that went on here on this forum about Hatton way back in 2005 and 06 with little perspective taken into account. Hatton was a very good fighter, i liked him, but like Tszyu time wins in the end.
Not the same. Hatton was taken out in a one on one fight. It was just him and Senchenko. Poor Tszyu wasn't treated with the same respect. It took the tag team of Hatton and Paris to take him out
Did Paris tell him to quit

A truly pathetic comment. You must be a poor, poor man - depleted in wealth and character.

But anyways, I'm actually glad this happened sooner rather than later. It had to, I still worry that the man could be dead within 12 months he really needs people round him.

What's the difference cos it's not the weight.

It is the weight mate, the heavier the weight, the longer your career can be.
Its not just that. Hatton had a big strength advantage when he was a light welter, he could boil himself right down and rehydrate massively after. Even at light welter though, there we fighters who could match his strength and made him look mediocre, like Juan Urango. If his footwork and boxing were that great, he would have been ale to box rings round him and make it look easy, he struggled.

He fights now the same as he did years ago. Ok he tired in the last few rounds but his head movement was good, as good as it has ever been. Or it looked that way against this opponent.

Had he taken on a fighter a level below as he should have and as everyone thought he should have, he would have won. You can get the stamina and confidence in training. He started to tire and was more and more a sitting target, he looked better than I expected at the beggining of the fight and even hurt Senchenko a few times.

Froch practically walks around at fighting weight and has a far better chin. Even Hattons own brother takes a better shot. Would Hatton have lasted against Canelo?

Hatton could have taken on a Katasidis type fighter for his first comeback fight but eventually he would have got to the realisation that he was never going to reach the heights he made at light welter. Hatton would have retired even if he got the decision against Senchenko

I love Ricky, probably my favourite fighter of all time, but I don't believe he would have retired had he got a decision over Senchenko. He'd have deluded himself into thinking he was just shaking off the rust and would've signed to fight Paulie. It's just something he is saying to convince himself that it doesn't matter and if that is what it takes to keep him from doing something stupid, then I'm glad he's saying it.

Yeah he was boxing nicely. I think Urango almost snapping him in half with a body shot changed things.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

You probably are right money and ego makes it difficult to turn down another fight. I hope this is closure and he can get on with his life.

It's not even just money and ego, if it is something you love, are good at and are lucky enough to be able to do for a living it must be bewildering and heartbreaking when that ends. If you are a painter, or writer, or filmmaker, actor, musician etc age does not drop a roadblock in front of your dreams. I don't care what it says about me but Ricky in pieces saying "I'm not a failure " after being stopped choked me up. Thats a man facing his own limits and by extension mortality. Hopefully he can find fulfillment vicariously by promoting, training or managing some future world champs.
