Nobody makes a big deal of when Wlad beat Chris Byrd after Vitali's loss to Byrd...Vitali never rematched Byrd, but yeah the Sanders fight gets brought up on a never ending basis.

Maybe because Vitali lost through shoulder injury after being miles in front and Wlad lost by sparkage in under 6 minutes makes people view the situation different.

I know what we SHOULD do....we should give no credit to the current heavyweight champion who's current reign is going on 7 years. Yeah, let's do THAT! Wlad is "champion" by default because he can't fight his most dangerous "challenger."

The closest you get to claiming Wlad as champion is since he beat Chagaev in 2009. The Ring and most independent rankings had Wlad ranked no.1, Vitali no.2 and Chagaev no.3. Considering Chagaev was rated his closest rival (ignoring Vitali) this was a legitimate title contest.

So Wlad has been champ for 3 years (although again by default because Vitali has been no.2 all through this time).

The heavyweight champion of the world is the best boxer on the planet. No disrespect intended, but all of these smaller weight classes are just a side show to the heavyweights. Boxing is about heavyweights.
